One of the best stories I ever heard Dimebag was doing a signing in a music store.A kid and his father walked up to dime and the kid told dime he was the reason he wanted to play guitar.Dime asked him what kind of guitar do you have.The dad replied I’m saving up for a guitar for him times are hard right now.Dime asked them to hang out until the end of the event not to embarrass the man.When everyone left dime told the manager of the store to give the kid the best starter guitar he’s got on me.He told the kid, next time I come around you better be jamming on that thing.Dime was the greatest person to grace the music business and to this day still influencing young guitar players including my son who was only a year old when he was murdered.RIP dime and Vinnie.

Very touching story. I discovered pantera about a year ago and it inspired me to keep on playing the guitar. I miss dimebag even though I never got to meet him and see pantera live since I was born in 2005. He may be gone but his legacy and music will live on.

I had a vhs from 1993 they put out of behind-the-scenes touring etc. They'd be partying & drinking, invite a guy from another band over. He said "sorry I don't drink". Dime said "that's okay man, hang out with us anyway." Every story everyone ever told, he was the nicest guy, and just wanted everyone to have fun, and be happy.

AVOID THE LIGHT is the final *REAL Pantera song* officially released in late 2000. This song along with IMMORTALLY INSANE were songs written during the REINVENTING THE STEEL sessions. I've said it before & Ill say it again, Pantera's final album *Reinventing The Steel* is the greatest album of their career. The band has really matured and focused in on what their strengths are and then catered those songs for the live setting to maximum affect. Dimebag is fully evolved into his dimebag-ness, playing his best riffs, and his guitar solos over Rex bass lines highlight just how tight these guys were. Philip stopped screaming front to back and started to mix in clean singing on most songs while Vinnie held everything together with his precision drumming. Reinventing the Steel is a modern, more mature record. It's groovy like A Vulgar Display Of Power while being heavy like Far Beyond Driven all with great vocal melodies that feel like a pinch of BLACK SABBATH thrown in. Check out the final album RTS. I always thought that Re-inventing The Steel was their alltime best album as well. Strong songs all the way through. Last song on the album "I'll Cast A Shadow" is fucking phenomenal And I'm with you, Down is fantastic! Saw them in 2008. One of the best shows I've ever been to.

This is my favourite Pantera song, I'm glad people are hearing it. There's a small list of rarer songs here that are more difficult to hear covered on other channels: Immortally Insane (Best of) I can't hide (Live 101) Where you come from (Live 101) Piss (Vulgar Display - cut - contains a rift later used on Use My Third Arm from Far Beyond Driven) The Will to Survive (Cowboys - cut - contains a rift later used on This Love from Vulgar Display) Caged in Rage (Supercop Soundtrack - Technically not a Pantera song, only features Dimebag, apparently not even Vinnie). Whiskey Road - Another Dimebag cut, country. Dime's Blackout Society - I've only listed this as it's often mistaken for a Dimebag original, but it's a cover of Black Label's Like A Bird with rearranged lyrics. He could be a dick BIG TIME though if you pissed him off. Dime was a dude that seemed like he never had a bad day in his life. I ran into him like the day after he had told Phil they were moving on without him. All I remember saying is "Whaaa?!? No more Pantera!?!!" and had this feeling like someone had died come over me. He said "No worries cat daddy. The show must go on. Phil picks himself back up we'll fire it back up." Like it was no big deal that one of the best rock bands in history was on indefinite hiatus. Dime wasn't really mad at Phil. He knew he was just fucked up and needed to fix himself. Vinnie on the other hand was pissed the fuck off. He was like " Fuck Phil!' Lol. And AFTER Dime passed......don't even mention Phils name.

I remember at an Ozzfest in the UK and Slayer were on just before Pantera. Everyone was so fired up moshing to Slayer and eager for Pantera...the energy was so intense. I could see Phil Anselmo in the wings of the stage watching the entire gig and seeing him keel over laughing and clapping his hands when the entire sixty something thousand crowd all screamed out loud along with Tom Araya at the beginning of Angel of Death. Also, later that night when Black Sabbath were on watching Dimebag Darrell jumping around going bananas on his own on the empty 2nd stage playing air guitar along to War Pigs. Fucking hilarious and a sight to behold and remember.

Amazing song! Only ever saw them live once back in '96 or '97. Most intense show I ever been too, came away with 3 broken ribs & loved it! Gutted I never got to meet em but everyone says Dime was one of the nicest people in the business on top of being one of the greatest guitar players ever. I saw Pantera more times than I can count but I have a general story about Pantera. At some point Dimebag gave an interview and in this interview he said that he would buy anybody who asked a six pack of beer. Dime being the type of guy he was stood by his word. So for about a U.S. tour he bought anybody who asked a sixer. Well it got real expensive cause word got out. So eventually he had to put out a statement saying sorry i cant afford to continue buying six packs but please come and say hello.

Cover my favorite Pantera song, UPLIFT. I would destroy with that song. I'm 53, and one of the many Pantera concerts that was bad ass, was in Boston, vulgar display of power tour. I took 2 friends, to see Pantera in Downtown Boston at the Orpheum Theatre. I drove that night in my 1990 Volkswagen Corrado. My favorite car I ever owned. Had a supercharger and 5 speed. Best clutch I ever had. When we got there we smoked 2 joints, drank a few beers and we were all ready for Pantera. Had my steel toe doc Martin's on. That concert was insane. Many rows of bolted down chairs were torn away. Pantera was throwing cups of beer in the crowd. It was an intense show, like no other band. Domination was a crowd favorite, but since VDOP was the new album, walk was something that caused a craziness like domination. After the show, I bumped into Dimebag and Vinnie Paul, who autographed stuff. Darrell did say did you hear the 7 mistakes I made. I did hear a couple but was baked from the weed, that it didn't matter. I ended up finding my friends by my car, they ended up going to a bar. Going back I drove in a snowstorm and made it back home listening to Pantera on cassette tape. Fun times bruddah.

ok. My understanding( from interviews, etc )is that Pantera did not go into the studio with the goal of "lets make a song about vampires". They were commissioned to make a song for the movie (mentioned) and this is the product. OK. A heavy metal band singing about vampires...I think they did a GREAT job. Phils deep, masculine, seductive vocals combined with Dimes rhythmic guitar shrieks.....wow...I think they did a GREAT job.....

This track was on the Dracula 2000 soundtrack back in the day. It is a non stop brutal assault. This track and Immortally Insane (from the Heavy Metal 2000 soundtrack) are unsung gems that aren't as well known since they weren't on actual albums of theirs.
