What are your thoughts on the best cordless trimmer with expandable capabilities?

Ryobi expandit gas trimmer. I have both the 2 cycle and 4 cycle heads. More power when I am using it for weed wacking. I use the 40 v for my auger hedge trimmer, pole saw and angle grinder.

I bought Ryobi because Milwaulkee is taking their sweet time getting a lawn mower. I bought the Ryobi 40V HP 21" brushless mower and the 40V HP expand-it trimmer. I like my stuff to match. I haven't used gas mowers for 4 years and now I can get rid of cords. Used the trimmer last night. Tripping on or splicing cords are no bueno.

I would like to get an electric riding mower but the prices are a bit insane. Since moving to Florida and having a postage stamp yard (temporarily I hope), my ICE Cub Cadet and Ryobi trimmer/edger/blower does the trick. In about 25 minutes. I miss the big yard.

Iv had the first gen for years man. Iv moved to a big fit hill property. It’s kinda turned into my back for my fast around the house stuff. My mother ran over my Stihl…. Man I wish I was kidding.. so after a lot of thought I am getting the new (2021) carbon fiber I think brushless 40v. And the brush cutting. Got a lot of work to do. Subbed man:)

I'm debating heading there now for this. I think this video finally sold me on it.

That's a great deal! Glad you saved some $$$. We moved Florida two months ago and are temporarily renting. Hopefully the new homeowner will appreciate my efforts. But this rental lawn sucks!! Full of weeds and over watered. I don't care if it's not MY lawn, it won't look like this when we leave.

I have not been disappointed yet. You really don't know what a pain gas motor is until you have a reliable electic.

Just got the exact trimmer. Once I get use to it I have to get the edger.

Once I hit the one year mark I'll provide another review. But so far I could not be happier with a trimmer unless someone else was doing it for me.

What I'd really like to know is whether or how much the Expand-it line of products loses power and battery efficiency when compared to a dedicated single purpose tool. I would expect some motor head to tool coupler friction losses stealing a bit of power and a few watt minutes from the battery. I don't expect the average home reviewer to buy multiple versions of tools and appreciate your efforts to help buyers make an informed choice.

That's a fair question. If I owned a lawn maintenance business, I would likely prefer single-purpose tools. It's just not cost-effective for the average owner. However, perhaps a test of different attachments on battery efficiency would be interesting. I have the tiller attachment (used once on a gas-powered tool). Let me know if you think it would be an interesting video to test various attachments.

Have you ever used the tiller? Curious if it actually can break anything up
@DaveBuildsIt4 жыл бұрын
I have used the tiller attachment on a gas-powered trimmer. I used it to break up a sodded area to lay pavers for a patio (roughly a 10x12 space). It was not ideal. It was easier than doing it all by hand, but it was a lot of work I would guess that a gas-powered, purpose-built tiller is heavy enough to do most of the work for you. A trimmer is not. Not sure an electric tiller would be either unless it was a small area.

Does the battery pack get hot while using it?
@DaveBuildsIt4 жыл бұрын
I have not noticed it getting hot while using it. I have noticed then using the edger and it binds, I have to push the charge indicator button on the battery before use again. It's rare and it may be by design, but I haven't had time to research it yet.

I go full blast with mine an 20mins in it gets hot. So i got another an switch it out an i get a little break as well. But i do high thick brush an it clears it well. But it gets hot if u use it full blast for 18 to 20mins
