Definitely recommend downloading the mods for this game when you get more used to it. I do suggest changing the Play Style to Simple in the Options>Player 1 Controls, it feels way better if you're playing the game with a controller (you can even customize the camera tilting to your liking, in the camera options) I'm the guy who made most of the character sprites for the game, by the way!

So I've been watching your videos for about a year now, loving all the What Happened? vids, super informative! This is the first Flophouse Plays one I've tuned into... and how ironic that you play a fangame that I originally composed about 30% of the music for. 😂 Most of my tracks in their original form are no longer in the game, because the work I did was 20-ish years ago, and so obviously does not sound so great nowadays. But I know the most recent releases of the game feature a lot of those old motifs as remixed by the modern composition team, which was awesome to hear, and I very much appreciated them using my old stuff as a leaping off point.
@Arrowned3 жыл бұрын
Oh, and to reply to the comment you made late in the video on the game's music, the "main theme" of the game, the motif used in the title, stage complete, invincibility theme, etc, comes from a Sega produced album, about 1:43 into kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKjWqWudpruCj8U . There's also a few remixes used here and there as well. But the vast majority of the game's OST was completely original. (also, the original theme of Deep Sea Zone is probably what I'm most known for, so it drives me crazy that you stopped there, LOL)
@clairebun3 жыл бұрын
Your themes hold a lot a lot of nostalgic value to me, so it's been a pleasure to arrange off of your works. I'm sure the rest of the current / 2.2 music team would agree.

Here's a bunch of fun facts because I know way too much about this game: 2:49 It's been mentioned in the comments already, but before version 2.2, the intro showed Eggman vaporizing an entire city with his Black Rock-powered orbital laser. Including all of its inhabitants. As for Knuckles being ignored, this is because the intro and its music are synced, and this doesn't give enough time to allow Knuckles's role to be explained. The game's website implies that Knux is tagging along because Eggman could blast Angel Island with his new orbital laser. 4:10 SRB2's relationship with Doom is... complicated. The game runs on a _very_ heavily modified version of the Doom engine, and a lot of the game's resources can be accessed using Doom modding tools. However, this is also the case for other games made using the Doom engine as a base, such as Heretic, Hexen, and Strife. They're not compatible with each other or Doom, but they all share a common ancestor. 5:30 Controlling Tailsbot in singleplayer is just as worthless as it was in Sonic 2 and 3. There's splitscreen multiplayer if you want an actual co-op experience. 6:17 The dash attack is called the "thok," after the sound it makes. It always propels Sonic forward at the same speed (60 fracunits/second), which actually _slows him down_ if he's using speed shoes! 6:37 There's a setting to switch the 1-up jingle to a sound effect that doesn't interrupt the level music. 6:49 Somehow I doubt the Armageddon Shield would pass muster in Japan if this game were officially licensed. The Land of the Rising Sun has taboos against nuclear weapons. You know why. 6:57 Every shield in the game has an active and passive ability. For example, the Elemental Shield (the one that looks like a fiery water bubble) provides passive protection from fire, water damage, and drowning. Its active ability is the stomp that generates fire particles, and it also leaves a fire trail when you spindash. 8:16 That's an emblem! Collecting them unlocks secrets, and that's all I'm going to say. 9:09 If you've played version 1.09.4 and found a certain secret, you'll know who lives in that house. 9:33 Eggman monitors have existed in official games since the Genesis era. 11:15 Those golden tokens are Emerald Tokens, and each one grants you a Special Stage attempt after you finish a level. (SRB2's engine doesn't have support for persistent levels yet, so no giant rings.) 11:21 Pressing F1 brings up a NiGHTS tutorial, in place of the help images from Doom. Not sure why the game doesn't tell you this, though... 14:06 SRB2's soundtrack is fully original! You can listen to it here on KZbin via Sonic Team Jr.'s channel, or download it from the SRB2 website. There's also an older OST that was used before version 2.2 came out.
