Don’t beat yourself up about it! Try to work with your brains mechanisms instead of fighting against it. Start by doing 5 minutes of exercise everyday with consistency. And every time you show up, acknowledge that you did and thank yourself for it. A great book you might find helpful is The Power Of Habit by Charles Duigh (spelling?) You got this. I used to be the most undisciplined person ever.

I don't have something with levels myself, so what I sometimes do is throw a rope over a beam at my house, tie one end to my ankle and pull the other end, so my leg goes up. I'll wait for a bit and then pull some more. Hard to keep balance while pulling, though. Have had a couple of accidents in the past.

I took karate when I was younger and my sensei would have us do this essentially but have someone else hold our foot and raise it till we hit that peak stretch spot. Also doing fully extended leg swings helped as well.

I started karate at 37. Being slim and naturally flexible is a HUGE advantage. For sure you will get there. I recommend taekwondo but karate can get you there as well.

i would be more effective to stretch the hamstrings using load along to increase flexibility in this range, im not saying this is bad theres just better ways to increase flexibility than static stretching

Possibly,by kicking higher you allow your leg to go through more momentum generating more power and being faster, but this isn't always the outcome. Speed heavily relies on other factors such as muscular strength (Weight lifting can help with this) and proper technique (Aka a lot of practice and seeing the correct technique for kicks online)

back when i first started my tkd instructor forced us to do a split the 2nd week. i could barely walk after that and was sore for most of the week. safe to say it was much easier to kick higher after that grueling week 💀😭

You can try doing a sort of tripod hand-stand, with your support leg and your hands on the ground, then lift your kicking leg up backwards to the ledge/shelf. It helps to have a rope tied to the shelf to then pull yourself up to a standing position with your leg on the shelf. I started that way. Now I can lift my leg up to about chest height. I am 58.

@@NeroMMA when you are trying to hit high kick you should not bend your knee, you have to be steady and straight and second and your support leg should turn almost 180 degrees and your shoulder should turn toward back without bending your knee or back, you should be in on straight line.
