'' Thank you for diving into Undertone Audio’s exciting new adventure in digital audio. We could not be
more excited about this first foray with the UnFairchild 670M mkII. The process of creating this plugin was
a journey to be sure. It started with innocent optimism, transitioned to exasperated frustration, and ended
with a feeling of exubarent satisfaction. MAKING MATHMATICAL ALGORITHMS SOUND LIKE VACUUM TUBES
IS NOT EASY. Analog circuits, like the UnFairchild, behave more like living breathing organisms. Nothing
they do is linear or predictable. Mathmatical formulas and algorithms are by nature, predictable. It took
a huge amount effort and experiamentation to inject the sensation of unpredictable analog circuitry into
this plugin. As you adjust controls on this plugin, you will feel all of the different personalities of the UnFair
child emerge and morph from one to another. The personality that shows up for 4 to 5 dB of compression is
profoundly different than the personality that comes crushing in with 15 to 20dB compression. We are very
excited about the innovations this plugin brings to the crowded landscape of compressor plugins and we
can not wait to hear what it brings to your creative world.- Eric Valentine''

@@wewillrise3663 Dude, stealing isn't right. If you do some research you will find it took 3 SEPERATE companies almost a year to create this. They deserve to be compensated for their time. Stealing isn't the right thing to do when you can't afford something. Don't encourage others to do it. How wold you feel if you spent thousands of dollars and a year of your time to make something just to have people steal it. Bet you wouldn't be very happy! Is it overpriced, yes. Thanks for the vid! Just a heads up tho, it's not the only emulation. Midnight from Acoustica Audio sampled 4 different hardware emulations and the Unfairchild was one of them. So there is another plugin on the market that emulates it.

@@whitenoisestudio I've yet to see one of your reviews where you directly compare a new product with its existing competitors, which would be standard practice in magazine reviews. I think this would be a lot more valuable to your audience.

I usually do that later down the line if I think a comparison between more is something people want to see, there are ofcourse exception where I do include a comparison. YT is a different format than a magazine, I usually can focus more on the nitty gritty of 1 plugin in 1 video and do more global comparisons where I can point to individual videos for more in depth coverage. Its always tricky to balance between detail and keeping people interested ( and people will complain either way hahahaha) That said, I really appreciate your comment and keep it in mind for future videos!

What does ""Powered by Mixland" mean if it's coded by Kiive, and Mixland does have their own plugins as well. Also, how would you compare it do "Midnight" by Acustica? Which I believe has 4 different Fairchild models/versions/years(?).

Everyone saying the sound is too dirty haven’t heard an actual Fairchild, those Beatles and Pink Floyd records weren’t pristine, also this compressor has 4 more attack and release settings that you can edit yourself, all you need is about one to two db of gr on a mix to make it really pop, I’ve tried Midnight by Acustica as well as UAD and waves, id say the UAD is most versatile, midnight is the most intuitive, and the unfair child is the most accurate
@whitenoisestudio
@whitenoisestudio 10 күн бұрын
Yeah I think you're spot on. I do wonder how much acustica actually truly sampled from the original unfairchild. The controls are wildly different and offer functions not available on the unfairchild, like the 100% freely adjustable attack and release settings.
@bco0t6
@bco0t6 10 күн бұрын
@@whitenoisestudio exactly, even the ratio changes which are very innovative and useful aren’t authentic to the original design … very functional in terms of flexibility and the sound is very “Vari Mu” imo it’s more Manley Vari Mu than Fairchild, it’s a little too clean, while this unfairchild doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, it’s honestly one of the best if not the best “Fairchild” plugins as far as the accuracy to the hardware
@whitenoisestudio
@whitenoisestudio 10 күн бұрын
Yup. In my current testing I find the acusttica to be way more linear in behaviour, I miss a lot of the oddities in especially the attack. Your Vari Mu call is a good one. Midnight seems less of a fairchild, still a good compressor none the less. But I have to dive in deeper.

I tried this on master bus of a number of different tracks. If this is a great emulation of an UnFairchild then I learned one thing, I don't want to own an Unfairchild. It's not great as a compressor and not great at "mojo", so IDK the point of it. Other than to learn what an (un)Fairchild is like. But I'm sure someone somewhere has a use for it.
@SingularityMedia
@SingularityMedia 12 күн бұрын
I don't think people realise what a real Fairchild is like. It's actually quite a dirty sound, and is known amongst engineers to be so. It does some specific things well, but I think people expect it to be this lovely rich and silky warm thing, probably because they cost so much and it's a tube-a-thon, but the sweet spot (at least in mastering terms) isn't that wide. I've used a real unit, and was underwhelmed... Mainly due to the hype. Given the choice I'd rather have a shadow hills MC.

In the end, its just a tool like any other plugin or piece of hardware. You like it, or you don't, and there's nothing wrong with both :-)

@@SingularityMedia when you say the sweet spot "isn't that wide" do you mean we need to take time to find the ideal setting for a mix? I think the Fairchild hardware has a great sound from what I've heard on KZbin vids, but the problem is I think not every plugin is entirely accurate. This unfairchild blunted/softened the snare, unless he was using the wrong settings. Not sure. IMO the Fairchild has a sound though that no other compressor can match when wanting to glue the mix in a magical way. I use a plugin that does a great job of emulating the hardware for 'that' sound.
