yo this helped me a bit, been rapping a while and ive been trying to learn how to do this and figuring out how compressors work and how to correctly remove transients with the eq. I think once I understand what Im actually trying to accomplish everything else will fall in line. So keep posting these beginner mixing vids. bro iv been having a problem with gain staging. I record my vocals with a rode nt1a and ssl2 interface I do not have my mic turnt up too loud but not to low but im having a problem with keeping my vocals at a good level when adding plug-ins , they are being pushed to hard and its uncomfortably clipping. how can I avoid this from happening, iv even used a vu meter on my master buss and I still get lost!!!

I tried the technique last night, and when I use the PAZ meter to bring the beat down to -12 with it on RMS, the beat still seems really loud and not how yours sounded, am I doing something wrong ? your vocals were easy to hear over the beat once you used gain on the beat. I'm in pro tools and using the trim plugin to gain it down

make the side of the paz meter (orange) to hit -12 instead of the middle (blue) , then you good... he made the beat so its likely not compressed and as bass heavy as a youtube download

yeah see most of the tracks people purchase can be base heavy make sure when you buy beats ask for the stems it helps a lot more
