You can hate the sin and not the sinner does not mean embracing the lifestyle. Yes, we don't abuse people for being part of LGBTQ; however, we are not required celebrate their sin. Catholics (like myself) stand ready to embrace a repentant soul seeking to return to Jesus. Until they do, the best thing we can do for them is to point out how unacceptable this behavior is and that they can be redeemed. Yes, Jesus surrounded himself with sinners, but it was always with the intention of freeing them from that sin. Blasphemy of our Sacraments should not be accepted as "art" or expression. It means everything to us and we cannot just allow this nonsense to continue without speaking out.

Surely you understand that you are not worthy to receive the Lord in the Sacrament of Holy Communion? Does God always heal someone instantly? Let's be honest with ourselves. We aren't anywhere near as oppositional to the gay agenda as we should be. St. Paul wrote numerous times in his epistles to Christian congregations, "practicing homosexuals will not inherit the kingdom of Heaven." Was this oppressive and hateful? Of course not, it was a warning made from love. But I bet very few Catholics in this day and age would give that same warning in public. Figures like Fr. Martin are supporting movements that will damn people to hell.
@drstewart
@drstewart Жыл бұрын
Will you be silencing women in church, as Paul wrote as well? Also, there was no word for "practicing homosexual" in Greek. Either your translation is lying or you are. Because the "numerous" times the message you're paraphrasing is given is exactly one time. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10. "Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither the immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor sexual perverts, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God." That's a pretty broad swath of humanity. Hope you're a teetotaler! Let's be honest. We don't get to project meaning onto Bible verses, or even insert words that aren't present, to suit our own prejudices. We don't get to ignore the example that Jesus gave when dealing with sinners. We don't get to ignore the social teaching of the Church.
@samueljennings4809
@samueljennings4809 Жыл бұрын
@@drstewart I’m not Catholic, but you’re setting up a straw man. The Catholic Church ordains men only based on that scripture, not women, so they are obeying that command from Paul. Also, just because the word is not in the Bible does not mean that the practice is not described. That is poor logic to make that argument. Historically, throughout the commentaries written by the church fathers in the first century or so after the apostles, they described the Greek word as one who practices sodomy. They did not have a word for the orientation, but they did describe and condemn the action as sin, as they condemned all sexual activity outside of a marriage between one man and one woman as sin. The cases in the Old Testament where people are polygamous are descriptive, not prescriptive, and they always caused more problems for the person involved. So the teaching of the faith and of Scripture on sexuality is consistent and has always been. And that’s coming from a Protestant.
@drstewart
@drstewart Жыл бұрын
@@samueljennings4809 As a Protestant, is it good practice to insert words that do not appear in authoritative manuscripts? Your logic is flawed here, because yes, a word that is not present to describe an action by definition does not describe an action. Which is why when Jesus uses a word implying chewing in regards to His body, we don't get to interpret it as a mere symbol. We don't get to add in, substitute or delete words for what we think it means. Translations of the actual words used indicate things such as "effeminate" (malakós) or in the RSV referenced above "sexual perverts". The latter is a phase that more broadly represents arsenokoítēs which is interpreted as a sexual act between men. Neither of these things equate to "practicing homosexual". This wasn't even a concept at the time the Epistles were written. So yes, it is wrong to quote things from the Bible that are not there. It's wrong to misrepresent what the text says. In other words, it's wrong to lie. Hardly a strawman to examine a text with integrity, but tell yourself whatever you like to justify your position "as a Protestant." Oh, and since I had to edit a typo, might as well address something else. The Church does not ordain men only based on 1 Corinthians 14:34-35. That is factually incorrect. The Church's justification for the ordination of men only is that based on Biblical accounts, there were no women called as part of the 12 Apostles (Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraph 1577 ), as well as Sacred Tradition and practice of the early Apostolic Church.

Trent, the Pride flag is not something I ever wish to see, nor would I ever participate in any gay activities nor do I celebrate anything it stands for. I am a Traditional Roman Catholic, and I stand by and practice all the doctrines and dogmas of our faith. The issue with The Chosen, I believe, has been so inflated that youtube preachers are calling for a boycott of the show to all their viewers. I may be wrong but just as we would never close the doors of the church in the face of a gay person, I would not tell others not to watch a Christian based show. I'd rather be deemed racist, bigot, hater in their opinion than doomed in God's truth. Love is what gets us into heaven, not what seemingly makes us comfortable living in this world. A child can't just do what they want. They must obey their parent. Jesus: "What use is it to call me Lord, Lord and not do as I say?" Jesus taught us to Love, rebuke, teach truth. St Mother Theresa on gay people: "You mean beloved children of God, right?" Jesus also taught us to repent. Embracing "pride" is not repenting.

_"Jesus taught us to Love..."_ Have you told your mother that you hate her and have you abandoned all of your possessions as your savior has commanded you to do? Jesus will only grant you everlasting life if you hate your mother, abandon your family, and give up all of your possessions- Luke 14:26-27 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters - yes, even his own life - he cannot be my disciple." Matthew 10:34-37 "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. For I have come to turn a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law - a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household." Matthew 19:29 "And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brothers, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life." Luke 14:33 “…therefore, none of you can become my disciple if you do not give up all your possessions." Jesus also says disobedient children must be killed as required by Old Testament law: Mark 7:9-10 "And he said to them, “You have a fine way of rejecting the commandment of God in order to establish your tradition! For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’, and ‘Whoever reviles father or mother must surely die.’" (See Ex 21:15, Lev 20:9, Dt 21:18-21) Matthew 5:40 Do not defend yourself in court- "And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well." Cannibalism is an integral part of Christianity. John 6:53 "Jesus said to them, "I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you. Whoever gnaws my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him. On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is a difficult and harsh and offensive statement. Who can accept it?" From this time, many of his disciples turned back and no longer followed him." Jesus approves of slavery too- Matthew 8:5 "When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help. “Lord,” he said, my servant lies at home paralyzed, suffering terribly.” Jesus said to him, “Shall I come and heal him?” The centurion replied, “Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed." Jesus' parables approving of slavery and beating slaves. Luke 12:46-47 "The lord of that servant will come in a day when he looketh not for him, and at an hour when he is not aware, and will cut him in sunder, and will appoint him his portion with the unbelievers. And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes." Luke 17:7-9 "But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat? And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink? Nuance: Dallas Jenkins (Chosen Director) clarified that the pride flag was on the equipment of a contractor. Not a member of the cast and crew, and was allowed as it was part of the personal belief of a secular staff member who wouldn't be sacked for his beliefs. The Chosen didn't 'Put up the flag' per se, although the support it received from the cast is a little disturbing....

Every Sunday after Mass (TLM )a large group of us , often accompanied by our priest, will go to a local restaurant for lunch. We already decided that if the restaurant has a rainbow flag in the window we will boycott and not return until the flag is taken down. We will also tell the owners why we are boycotting. We realize, that some of these restaurants are bullied and pressured in to supporting the sin of sodomy. However, our Catholic presence in such a restaurant and our money will not support it. I am a Catholic and. Southerner. I view the Confederacy and my Confederate ancestors with a mix of awe and sadness. I pray for them. The flag under which several died during the war at least is based on Christian imagery, it features the St. Andrew's cross. Catholicism was fairly well integrated in the South, far more than in the puritanical protestant North at that time. Post war, later 19th and early 20th century European immigration made the North more Catholic after the war. Anticatholicism entered the South after the war during the rise of the Klan. There's a new book about Catholics in the Confederacy detailing this.

The beatings and brutality the less than human stance they declared in the name of our Lord and savior- there are and were evil people and they did not enter into the presence of the Lord. Your argument can also be made for those who were in Hitlers army that did horrendous things for their own definition of good - hate comes directly from Satan and he continues to show up over and over again in the form of ethic and color based discrimination. If you haven’t please look at the treasury of African American Christmas stories - such powerful pieces shared by a few wonderful Christian people who were clearly covered in the power and grace of the Holy Spirit-this too me is something worth looking more into not the defense of the confederate flag and the people in power positions who were somehow the victims of their own hatred (which is a sin according to the New Testament). By your logic, every flag should stop being used because it has some bad connotations. An american rapist waves the American flag around and you would consider their rapist status bad but that doesn't immediately connect it to the american flag. This is just a bad excuse to justify bigoted opinions held by most of your audience in order to keep them on your side. Also, if your religion attacks something as morally neutral as sexuality preferrence, it really does question it's authority on morality.

Poor catechism and backwards extrapolation. It’s well known that Catholics today are mostly poorly catechised. But there’s also a huge misconception about creation, a misconception between who we are and what we do. James Martin has said about homosexuals that “God made you this way”. SSA typically develops in the tween years and can stunt a child’s development through adolescence. The common error is to understand that SSA is prevalent in youth and then believe that it was there from birth, to extrapolate backwards and justify it as an inherent characteristic. This is not true. Not a single person is “oriented” towards the same sex. God did not create us that way. The catechism is correct, that this is a trial for individuals with SSA. We have to recognize the difference between actions and essence. Catholics in error might mean well, but they are misunderstanding this difference.

@@mitchellosmer1293 Hi Mitchellosmer1293, The Catholic belief in the unity of the Church is rooted in passages like Ephesians 4:4-6, which emphasize the oneness of the faith, the Spirit, and the Lord. This understanding aligns with our common desire for unity among believers. Remember, Jesus prayed that we may be one as He and the Father are one. Yes, we acknowledge the existence of local churches as integral expressions of the Body of Christ, but we also maintain that these local communities are united in their shared faith, doctrine, and sacraments. The term "church" in the NT is used in various ways-to describe both the universal Body of Christ and local assemblies. This dual usage doesn't negate the unity of the Church; rather, it reflects the organic relationship between the whole Church and its individual parts. The Catholic Church's hierarchical structure, with the Pope at its head, was established by Christ to preserve this unity and prevent doctrinal divisions. When we say that the Roman Church is the "First Church," we have to recognize the connection between Peter and the leadership of the early Christian community. Just as Jesus referred to Peter as the "rock" upon which He would build His Church (Matthew 16:18), it's reasonable to understand that this unique role would extend to the Church in Rome due to Peter's presence there. This is just how they would have seen their relationship with Peter. So although the Jerusalem Church no doubt holds immense historical and spiritual significance, the role of Peter as a central figure in the early Church simply cannot be overlooked. Understanding this doesn't take away from the importance of other local churches or the universal Body of Christ. Instead, it reflects the biblical concept of apostolic authority and continuity, with the Roman Church inheriting a special leadership role through its connection to Peter... does that makes sense?

WHERE in scripture does the Bible mention a "pope" in HIS CHURCH?????? ----quote--it's reasonable to understand that this unique role would extend to the Church in Rome due to Peter's presence there. --unquote LOL--ROFL --Tel me. when Jesus returns, WHERE will be HIs headquarters?? Rome---or Jurasalem??? NOT IN Rome!!!! -----quote--the universal Body of Christ. -unquote AGAIN. NO SUCH term used in scripture -----quote---Instead, it reflects the biblical concept of apostolic authority and continuity, with the Roman Church inheriting a special leadership role through its connection to Peter--unquote LOL--ROFL OBVIOUSLY you have NO UNDERSTANDING of scripture!!! #1---An Apostle Was an Eyewitness of the Resurrected Christ The apostles were the foundation of the church (Eph 2:20), and so it was important that they had been with Jesus himself and, in particular, seen him resurrected from the dead. Even the apostle Paul met this criterion, though in a unique fashion. -------Peter proposed choosing a new apostle and set the qualifications. Not everyone could be considered for an apostleship. Candidates needed to have been with Jesus during the whole three years that Jesus was among them. That is, he needed to be an eyewitness of Jesus’ baptism when the Heavenly Father validated Jesus’ person and work. He needed to have heard Jesus’ life-changing teachings and been present to see His healings and other miracles. He needed to have witnessed Jesus sacrifice Himself on the cross and to have seen Jesus walk, talk, and eat among the disciples again after His resurrection. These were the pivotal facts of Jesus’ life, the heart of the message they were to teach, and personal witnesses were required to verify the truth of the good news. --So, tell me, who after John met those qualifications????? ------THERE is NO ONE in the Church of God called "Pope"!!!

Hey Mitchell, while I appreciate your focus on the Scriptural basis, we have to keep in mind that the Bible doesn't explicitly state that the Bible alone is our infallible source for Christian doctrine. Rather, it's important to recognize that even the formation of the canon we hold today wasn't given to us in isolation. The coherence of the canon emerged through the thorough examination of the early Church. This recognition prompts us to consider a thought-provoking scenario: if two Christians disagreed on the canon, whose inner judgment would serve as the arbiter, identifying the true canon? It becomes evident that the Church founded by Christ uniquely possessed the authority and divine guidance to discern the Old Testament canon. Sure, church Fathers proposed differing canons during the centuries following the close of written revelation in the early second century. The complexity deepens as we observe that, despite being faithful and Spirit-filled individuals in close proximity to the apostolic era, they presented differing canons. This divergence persisted until nearly A.D. 400 when the canon was finally settled, encompassing the seventy-three books of the Catholic Bible. Luther tried to omit four New Testament books, demonstrating the learned differ about the "self-authenticated" canon. However, even the Bible supports sacred tradition, as underscored in 2 Thessalonians 2:15. Here the Apostle Paul encourages us to preserve teachings through both oral and written forms aligns with the Catholic perspective. The interplay between Scripture and tradition paints a more comprehensive picture of the faith, one that acknowledges the invaluable guidance of the Church Christ founded. Either way, I'm not sure about your history with the Catholic Church, but I will be praying for you brother that you find peace in your heart first and foremost. I pray that you will be a joyful Christian, and keep an honest and humble attitude in your journey towards the Sacred Heart of Jesus. God bless you! @@mitchellosmer1293

@@MissaMelodica quote---The Bible doesn't explicitly state that the Bible alone is our infallible source for Christian doctrine.--unquote Yet you quote NO other writings that declares BY God that we are to accept those writings!!! ----Hebrews 4:12 12 Indeed, the word of God is living and effective, sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating even between soul and spirit, joints and marrow, and able to discern reflections and thoughts of the heart), or seen implicitly through its lens. Our LORD, GOD and SAVIOUR did create the simplest fabric (H²O) to sustain all of life here on earth. The Chosen actors you quote are way off the mark but I actually have to agree with the Director's response. I recommend watching that.

That video was damage control. The director is smart enough to know that right now is the absolute worse time for this type of thing to rear its ugly head. At the end of the day, The Chosen production is a business venture and for the actors involved to go down that path in light of AB and Target...well, I'm sure he went into full blown panic/damage control mode. Personally, I think he should have immediately fired all involved.

Hello Trent, I’m unsure if this will be seen but I hear you say “Catholics and Christians “ often. I think a better term (thought a mouthful) is Catholics and other Christians. You might be thinking “in particular and general” but too many people sometimes from grandparents too most recently baptized child who may not be properly catechized or have believe recent Protestants, “Catholics and Christians” means Catholics not Christians. Given your influence and logic, I thought it might be worth considering in your public presentations Thank you for what you do for the Church
