Taking tests with high score doesn't mean you can work well. It has absolutely no relation.

@@RichardPeterShon Being smart, a thinker and an innovator and a bad test taker, also does not mean you can work well. Most people have the intellectual capacity to be very good works they are just not organized, they do not know how to deal with problem people, that do not have high energy and work ethic, they lack self-discipline, they get bored because the job is boring, etc. How do you test for these?

Thank you so much for this Ted Talk! It is something I knew from personal observation, but to have evidence of what I knew intuitively is wonderful! Let us hope that the world collectively, will learn and change!👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

You're practicing how to take a test not how to be better at the thing you're trying to learn.... which is just about everything you learn in school.

Why economics and other professions are dictating education, we must reciprocate this. Education must dictate professions for creating welfare states around the world.

If India's PISA is 73, Bangladesh would probably score ten ranks lower. I studied economics at the top uni in Bangladesh. I spoke with students in economics from India who went to low-ranked regional colleges. They learned mathematical methods, I have never heard of. Such a shame that Bangladesh lagging is far behind its neighbor in educational achievement.

MIsleading 4:08, japan didn't grow because of population decline!. The fact that Japan still maintained its current GDP level with population decline is impressive. India GDP per capita is still $2400 as of 2023 vs $35k for Japan,

You wouldn't know that poverty is the underlying problem without the data from universal testing. Not one shred of evidence presented that a test causes claimed emotional and psychological harm. Flawed thinking skills seems to be the real challenge of educators.

What often happens is testing takes over, with schools "teaching to the test" and actual education taking a back seat. Millions of children would probably relish the chance to go to school and take tests.

The emotional distress caused by standardized testing is well documented and much of that documentation is readily available to anyone with an internet connection. The distress comes from two primary sources: preparing to take a test where the score will be presumed to be a reflection of the individual's with as a human being, and the loss of time teaching skills not tested, such as empathy, emotional intelligence, and collaborative problem-solving. These skills are just as, if not more, important than technical skills in a person's career. The emotional effect of standardized testing was a supporting point, not her thesis. Her message is that standardized tests do not predict economic growth as is claimed. The problem isn't with surveying students' knowledge and critical thinking skills. The problem is how the information is used to drive policy. When improving scores is the goal, policies push teaching to the test instead of focusing on improving skills and critical thinking in lower socioeconomic groups, which has a much stronger correlation to economic growth. As these lower socioeconomic groups are brought out of poverty, the resulting stronger economy can support even more investment in education. We have mountains of data collected in unethical ways. The fact that we can analyze that data today and find useful information in it does not excuse the manner in which it was obtained. These unethical research practices led to IRBs (institutional review boards) which use a code of ethics to evaluate and approve or prohibit studies that use human subjects. There are ways to collect data without causing harm to the people involved. There is a limit to how much information can be packed into a nine-minute Ted Talk or a four-paragraph youtube reply. The point is to promote additional thought and research, not to be an exhaustive treatise on a particular subject. The presenter's thinking isn't flawed; she condensed what could easily be a semester-long graduate-level class into nine minutes, and some nuance was understandably lost in the process.

The process to obtain higher marks in test, adaption of education revolving around the test, no actual teaching of skill, or questioning of what is being taught (lack of skeptism or confirmation skill of children when information is fed), etc
