Jon - thanks for all these demos! I have been looking into some of the Mayco glazes you did show. I thought you might be interested in the info I found posted on their site regarding mirror black: "SW-132 Mirror Black is not Food Safe nor Dinnerware Safe due to the durability of the fired glaze. Some glazes, regardless of surface texture or porosity of underlying clay body, will be designated as not suitable for dinnerware as the fired glaze surface is not durable and can be impacted by contact with food or liquids. While it may not be harmful, it is certainly not desirable.SW-132 Mirror Black is recommended for ornamental use only."

I create a lot of flat pieces, specifically crosses. I use a drywall sandwich to keep them flat. It's a pain as I rotate in fresh drywall, balancing not handling them too much. For hand built trays and plates I also place on a piece of dry wall and weigh down with baggies filled with rice.

Hey Jon my tip is to dry the tiles between two pieces of drywall with a bit of a weight on top. Helps them dry even and the pressure keeps them flat. Xo

All I can say is....you have a TON of sanding bottoms ahead of you, my friend :) It's all beautiful and I have some favorites that I may try out myself! As for making things flat, especially tiles and ornaments, sandwich them between two wooden bats or two flat wood boards for drying. You can even put a little weight on the top, but not too much weight. Works quite well!

Re warping plates.... I found that if I throw the plate on a bat that I then has put a canvas or thick fabric on. (I attach it with slipwater and a squidgy) then once the plate is thrown, I just run the wire under the fabric and leave it to dry. This seems to almost eliminate the warping for me. And you dont loose a heap of clay underneith as the cloth comes off cleanly and then the plate is ready to turn. Supergood I highly recommend it:) 💫 Julia - Healesville Pottery

Jon, you probably got the error message, because the controller got too hot. They don't like too hot, or too cold. People, who keep/ fire their kilns outside, or in an uninsulated space, in the colder months, have to use something like a space heater, to warm the controller up, before it will actually work. The same is true for if the controller gets too hot. There is an air flow space, on the back, so that it has some insulation from the heat of the kiln, it is attached to, for this reason. But two kilns firing, apparently got that room beyond, what it can operate at. A simple fix, is just set a floor fan pointing at the controller, so it doesn't overheat. You could get an oscillating one, so it will cool both controllers, as you are likely to fire both at the same time again. I'm a fan of the Norse Blue, especially on the higher iron clay body. In your neck of the woods, I would definitely note, that color name, as it will help the wares sell with all those, who have Scandinavian ancestry. Don't think anything of making Christmas ornaments already. I know potters, who are already building stock for this year's Holiday season. If Hallmark is already playing Christmas movies, then you can make some decorations! I've cut myself a few times unloading. Those glaze drips will get ya! The edges of them, can be like a scalpel!

In my ceramics classes my teacher alway said that when we where dealing with like plates and stuff like that put a bag loosely over it because that way it would all dry slower and not dry to fat and warp since the rim is thinner then the bottom of the plate so you should try putting a bag over it and letting it dry slowly Edit: I can just be a regular old plastic bag, like the ones you get at a grocery store

People make plates too thin. That's the biggest reason why they warped they will sag in a kiln even after being bisque fired when you glaze them sometimes they said for apparently no reason. The reason is there too damn thing. Making a plate is a huge waste of clay. You should be trimming almost half of the wait of the plate away. But still leaving thicker than you imagine. As far as tiles go I have no idea I don't have a lot of warping wall drying I have warping in the kiln! I don't know what to do about that. I have check temperatures I have a pyrometer I do witness cones and everything appears to be right on the money couldn't ask for a better heat distribution but I still get warping on small tiles

I have been potting for 7 months, and buying my own glazes for the last five months, I only use Mayco. I have to criticize the video, if Mayco is sponsoring you, supplying the glazes, and you are saying that you are offering up combo's, then, as a viewer, I am looking for consistent information on which glazes you used and instead, half the time, you don't know what glazes were you used. #promotionfail .
