The part about the kids is absolutely true. I have never experienced so much grief in my life as I did when I became a parent and was faced with the harsh reality that I can not be everything to them. It’s one of the hardest and most humbling things I’ve had to accept about myself. Yet, I’ve also never felt so fulfilled in my life to see my children happy and thriving in a world where there’s so much suffering. Ugh there’s so much good stuff in this episode. Definitely one of my favorites 👍🏼

I'm very interested in your comment. What was the grief about? I didn't quite understand why would you feel like that because you can't be everything to them. I don't have kids, by the way, so that might be the reason. I ask because my girflriend have come to the understanding that we are not going for the kids route, because she doesn't want to and I decided to respect and support that. So I'm intrigued by your comment and would love som einsight. Thanks in advance!

This was a fantastic interview! I loved every minute and would love to see it continue. As an average person getting fulfillment through raising children, I couldn’t agree more with the sentiments here. I thank you for your service and I’m glad there are people operating at this level. Simultaneously I’m grateful I get to raise children and not feel the need to ruthlessly pursue my goals, conquer my emotions, and live at the cutting edge of my abilities. It’s incredible to hear from minds like this, and I’m left with the feeling that there’s clearly a place in this world for all types. Great stuff guys!

I will say I felt the same exact way about having kids and planned on never having them. When I first met my wife I even told her this. Then we had our first and instantly the way I felt changed . 3 kids later and yes it’s insanely difficult but nothing is more rewarding. As a guy we honestly can’t comprehend kids until we are holding our own in our arms for the first time. The chemicals just kick in. I also made the same decision of pursuing my entrepreneurship (which is literally part of my soul) in full force or get married to the love of my life and start a family - the significant other you choose matters more in your life than almost ever other major decision in your life - spend quality time with your significant other before kids, travel , do everything you want. - know having a family is a huge commitment, more than anyone can ever explain to you - don’t look back and regret not choosing the other path I’m incredibly happy with where my life is , had multiple failed company’s with a few minor successes and I’ll never stop. 3 amazing kids and have the love of my life that I get to spend the rest of my life with

That aspect about he family is so true. I learned working for over 2 decades that at work you must focus on customers, employees and shareholders. Outside of work your family, community and relationship with God. Somehow they are interrelated and a reflection of who you are at work. There is no way success can't knock at your door if you focus on those vertical.

I am super glad I became a mother, and my son is indeed, one of the aspects of my life that is fulfilling, largely because it was impossibly hard, being a single mom and I did it. However, now I am 52 and feeling so lost and isolated, and it is so hard to start over without the carreer or family/relationships I would have liked...so I don't think it is quite the same for women who can become pregnant even if unplanned. I imagine I just made terrible choices early in life...I also think that 'big brothering' probably gave you a much different (and more positive overall) sense of fulfillment than struggling as a single parent gave me.

"You can be anything you want, but you can't be everything." As someone who got a late start in life and only really started finding some success in my late 30s, that quote definitely resonates with me. I still struggle with this though on smaller scales, particularly when trying to decide what projects to work on.

I've been watching Tom's content for a long time... I really wish Tom defines the terms he uses before he dishes them out. Fascinating to watch the interview he did with Hormozi as an example. At times they were both saying the same things but in different ways until Hormozi started defining the terms. An example Tom always says is 'everything is your fault', but the sentence is already self-punishing enough. I feel like what he is actually saying is 'everything is your responsibility'. Honestly, I feel like that is a blindspot that Tom needs to look at and change some of his self-punishing language to more accurate neutral language so people don't bring their own understanding to his words without him defining the terms.
