What is the biggest win-win trade you can think of!?
@G0bz
@G0bz 4 жыл бұрын
As a habs fan, I would go with the Sergachev/Drouin deal. The lightnings got a youuuung nhl ready defensman, which had an impact right off the bat at his first season with tampa. On the other hand, my team got a young kid too (who speak french and is from here btw)with a skill celling very very high. Just gotta wait for him to explode. He had the best season start of his life this year. Very looking forward him to come back from his injury !! Anyway, that's my opinion.

Rob Talks Hockey I gotta day the one in the thumbnail because how do you top that? One team gets the final piece to push them to 2 Stanley cups and the other get rid of the final piece that stopped them from getting the 1st overall pick plus gets a good young player and most of the necessary pieces to acquire an elite starting goalie.... Big Win Big Win

2:40, by that logic, the Hall trade was a massive win for the Oilers. They were able to add more generational talent and a solid defensemen for a guy who's been on 4 teams in a few years.

win-win is not the same as fair value. This video is about win-win trades.
@stevenilijanich1248
@stevenilijanich1248 4 жыл бұрын
@@forgottenfamily You're correct on saying the video is about win win but your not comprehending the factor of that seth jones is a far better player and worth a lot more then his trade deemed. I understand both teams "won" but Columbus got a top 2D and a dude with potentially to be one of the best D in the game where the preds got a player who's downgrading in skill and on a good team hes an elite 2nd liner and a decent 1 st liner. Stating that this is a win win and not relating it to a fairness factor is ignorant and naive. The value of each player still matters and at the end of the day the trade is still a goos trade but the preds should of received a bit more to truly balance the trade and solidify the stigma of "win win" that you preach.
@forgottenfamily
@forgottenfamily 4 жыл бұрын
@@stevenilijanich1248 You are not properly taking into account the relative value of a 3rd scenario: if the trade had not happened. Did they lose more by trading for less than fair value than they would have lost had the trade not happened? You would be hard pressed to convince me that a 30% shot of a NHL regular in that 2nd rounder is worth more than the differential in talent when we consider that Seth Jones's additions were limited and Johansson's contributions were revolutionary for their team. Once you get past that, it becomes about what the risk factors involved were with continuing to negotiate for fair value. They had a luxury they could afford to spend - they were stacked in D due to good drafting and good development. Overpaying ensured the trade could happen. Seth Jones could not be used as a top pair on their team. Ergo: overpaying was acceptable. It still counts as win-win.

Speaking of Kessel, I would argue that the Kessel to Toronto trade was one of the biggest lose-lose trades in history. Boston gives up Kessel, but in the next couple of years they were close to winning the cup. They won in 2011, but came up short a couple of the other years, with their weakness being seen as a lack of secondary scoring. At that time, Kessel was putting up excellent offensive numbers on a very weak Toronto team. It could be argued that with Kessel, they might have won one or even two additional cups. Meanwhile, the two picks Boston got for Kessel were turned into Tyler Seguin and Dougie Hamilton, both of whom were quickly traded by Boston for dimes on the dollar, because both were seen to have "attitude" problems. And to top it off, one of the draft picks Boston got when they traded Hamilton to Calgary turned out to be notorious bust Zach Senyshyn, who they took instead of Matt Barzal, who was selected on the very next pick by the Islanders. What was considered to be an absolute steal of a deal by Boston when it was made turned into ashes. Meanwhile, while Toronto got good production from Kessel, he didn't turn out to be the "cornerstone" of the franchise that Brian Burke hoped for. The team missed the playoffs 5 of his 6 years while Kessel was with them, the one year they made it being their notorious meltdown against the Bruins in 2013. They were a rebuilding team at the time and would have been better served holding onto the picks they got for Kessel, who was more of a final piece than a foundation (as we saw in Pittsburgh). Thus, a trade that turned into a bomb for both teams.

Rob! Don’t know if this will get looked at by you, but I wanna start by saying you’ve been killing it with the content lately, and you got my sub a little while back! Great to see you’re getting more subs, but I’ve got a very minor bone to pick. You tend to start your videos off talking way too fast! That :35-:45 second span is where I really noticed jumbled words and you tend to finish “awesome hockey content” as “ awesome ockey ontent” I’m an east coast Canadian, so I know a thing or two about fast talking, but if you keep that energy but slow down the words per minute a bit it will be much easier to engage and feel like we’re being talked to instead of talked at Other than that, the only other complaint is that nucks jersey behind ya! (Much love!) Cheers

Why not do one on lop-sided trades. The one that comes to my mind first is the Leafs/Flames deal that sent Leeman and others to Calgary and Gilmore and others to Toronto. An interesting side note to that trade is that video games at the time considered it so one-sided that they wouldn't let players make that trade while playing the video game.
