Once again these bee’s knight in shining armour (JP ) shows up to save the day . Those bees who temporarily flew away where like wait a minute we forgot Momma we have to go back and find her and once the bees found Momma they are like ok everyone move in , move in march , march and march . JP your videos are always so interesting and you are my favourite bee rescuer because you take such care when handling the bees to not squinch any and you do put out the extra effort to wait for all the foragers to show up to the new hive . Oh and the care you took with the bird house because of Mrs H feelings about the birdhouse will or would make your Momma proud you left the bird house in a state Mr H can easily make repairs. Hello JP! Where here in Apollo Beach Florida. And we have learned so much from you. The same the happened to us and instead of calling a bee person like yourself we were able to study up on how to do it.We watch lots of your videos and we did ourselves. But of course we got a smoker! No head gear!!! Just calm attitude. I think that’s all people need. And I needed to teach myself not to swipe at them because it’s human nature. All of the bees we collected from the birdhouse was enough to fill a complete 10 frame deep. Wow!!! Then we put a gueen (exluxuder)??? Then a super. I have been feeding them sugar water through the winter. Never saw the queen but I am sure we got her because we have the the set up for months now. Any thoughts from you.

Congratulations on a successful live removal/transfer! Personally, I'm not a big fan of excluders but if I were going to use one with your current set up I would remove it then add it back atop the third box after you've added a third box. You need to allow the colony to establish itself & create the brood nest. By placing the excluder over the first box, the queen can only lay in that box & that box alone. The brood nest should typically be 2 deeps or one deep & 2 mediums. Best of luck with your bees! ...JPthebeeman

Couillon you wouldn’t want to see it right now, was in my main bee yard yesterday & am very disappointed! The utility guys trimmed the power lines overhead & had zero disregard for my hives. They cut Big branches & essentially dropped many of them right on my hives, disgusted! I lost about 20 colonies from their lack of care! My friend who lives their is very disgruntled with them as well & we are looking to get compensation for what they did. I have a lot of work to get it back to what it was. The good news is a lot of my woodenware is in good shape but will need to be cleaned up as they got knocked over or the lids were knocked off. It’s a shame utility companies often have such disregard for people’s property. In Brookhaven, Ms they came in & trimmed my power lines & wound up cutting down blueberry bushes that were planted in the 70’s! I did get compensation for them though & they grew back too to boot so all was not completely lost but still!

Hi JP, What do you think of the Beetle Blaster? It’s a slotted rectangular container that fits between two frames. You fill with vegetable oil to trap beetles or ants. Do you think it actually works? Thanks Leslie

Leslie Todd some areas for whatever reason have more incidence of shbs, myself, I don’t fret about them as there are a certain amount of beetles in every colony. Shbs actually will swarm with a colony so bees & shbs go hand in hand. The best defense against them is keeping your hives strong, not too much space but lots of bees if that makes sense. With that said if you want to experiment with mechanical measures which might reduce their numbers if it doesn’t hurt the bees I say go for it! I pinch shbs whenever I’m given the opportunity! ☺️
