My Brothers got cirrhosis of the liver. He didn't drink he was very careful about what he ate, he took vitamins, worked at being healthy, never smoked( couldn't be around smoke, made him sick). and when he went to the doctor the first time he was full of arsenic !!!!. That was after his wife that had left him returned and she had been hiding money for a long time and he was left broke and he wasn't aware of it. She drove a wedge between his family and sisters his friends his children. She never ate the same thing he did but she always made sure she did all the cooking. I'd say she got away with murder. People that suspected or afraid to say anything. I'm just waiting on the day that God punishes her cuz she sure pretends to be a big Christian and she is nothing but a liar and troublemaker , a murderer, she is fake. Her daughter was in on it. They are one time were making plans to move to another State. The way her Daughter acted when she came to the house, too strange. She pretended she wasn't aware He had passed, but i heard a short phone call, that's the reason she come to the house. Just didn't expect me to be there. She is blank, ( like she couldn't face me), runs back to their bedroom. Her mother says, she needs time for herself. I walked back there anyway, she was not upset. Just sitting there. She had no love for my brother that treated her like a daughter. She showed no emotions at the funeral, except laughing when leaving. She pretended to get what she wanted. They really knows how to play people. I had gotten sick and went to stay with them and when I ate her soup I got violently sick like I've never been in my life, I had just left the hospital and just found out I had an aneurysm. I regret to this day I didn't go back to the hospital !!!. I can see the look of fear in her eyes when I was so sick after eating her soup. My brother would be so sick but right before he would go to a doctor's visit all the sudden he's feeling better then after the doctors visit he gets sick again. I told him he needed to go to the doctor when he got sick I don't care if he just went because that's when he'd get sick again. No doubt she got everything his children didn't get anything she was his second wife. No one wanted anything except the truth.!! ! That makes two that got away with murder.!!! What does one do?

One of the reasons I find your stories so gripping is that I was an insurance claims investigator for about ten years - there is no shortage of psychopaths and the Mrs. Duffs , whether male or female , of this world are very dangerous indeed - devoid of conscience or empathy and chock full of hubris they generally get caught out of shear arrogance.

Thanks Mel! I spent a lot of time on this one researching every aspect I could find. It is a complex matter as the Metropolitan Police files at the National Archives show. I was surprised to find that no-one seems to have suggested Munchausen's by proxy as a prime motive - although this was understandable in 1929, when this phenomenon was unknown. I am quite convinced that Grace had this condition and it was a major motivation in her crimes.

@@TheyGotAwayWithMurder Yes I agree! also that Violet suspected Grace of killing Vera and poisoning herself. Mark, I forgot to ask you about your interest in crime? You have a poetic way with your interpretation and presentation of the crime and the facts of the case. You delve into each case using what some detectives lack, and that’s what I phrase as a psychological sense. Your ability to place yourself in the shoes of all persons that could be the killer is very interesting because when you are on the outside looking in and have very few facts, it’s necessary to be inside the crime and the minds, and the daily life of the people who knew the victim so that you can get information and begin the elimination process. Mark, you would have made an amazing criminal solicitor. Your summations keep me hanging onto your every word as you are precise, commanding, thorough, and eloquently so.

She ended up living quite close to me. I could even have seen her when I was a child. She sounds as though she was more a psychopath, taking pleasure from killing animals and people. I think most such murderers are, it would take a very odd person to commit a premeditated murder. Thanks for it, fascinating and also repellent.

Tempting to ask you to be more forthcoming since you state that she "ended up living quite close to me."
@OLDCHEMIST14 жыл бұрын
@@gailjarvis2592 Ha! Ha! She would have been have been a bit old for me.! I was only a teenager I think when she died. Seaford, at the time was a very wild town. The Sea literally used to wash up the roads near the beach and you could end up being hit by stones from the beach. It's much quieter now as they put millions of tons of stones on the beach to stop coastal erosion. Shame!

I agree that it sounds more psychopathic than a warped bid for attention. Its more cold and calculated and the hurting and killing animals when younger is a huge tell! Munchhausens by Proxy is when they prolong illnesses in their children or whoever and yes, they do invent but the prolongment in order to squeeze as much reflected attention out of each situation or illness is key. Killing your children or victims is pretty self defeating as the long drawn out nature of illness is what drives them.

Sir Julian Fellowes asserts, in “A Most Mysterious Murder”, that he thinks Brother Tom did it. The preternaturally self-impressed Sir Julian, seems to have lost the plot a bit here.. in fact, I am shocked that Grace’s jury didn’t echo the jury in “The Producers”, who declared:”We find the defendant INCREDIBLY GUILTY.”
@TheyGotAwayWithMurder3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I know Julian arrived at that conclusion, Peri - I think his wife and son disagreed with him in this, though!

Fellowes' program is heavily dramatized. Is there proof Tom was there when Edmund came back from fishing? Was the beer in bottles in the way shown? If so, how would Tom know which bottle to put the arsenic in? I found the program unconvincing.
