The Bodies Of Missing People Are Rapidly Turning Up In Mexico (HBO)

Күн бұрын

For three years, Mario Vergara has ventured regularly into the hills of the southern Mexican state of Guerrero, searching for the remains of his brother Tomás. Although he hasn't located his brother, he's found dozens of buried bodies-but this isn't unusual-in fact, it's only evidence of a much larger problem.
Vergara is part of a loose movement of buscadores, or searchers, who spurred to action after the disappearance of 43 students in Iguala. The students went missing after a confrontation with security forces in September, 2014 and the search for their remains resulted in the discovery of dozens of other bodies buried in mass graves.
The case of the 43 blew the cover off the epidemic of forced disappearances in Mexico, where more than 32,000 people are estimated to be missing. It's only one symptom of a series of deeply entrenched issues.
In Mexico, the vast majority of crimes go unpunished, countless government officials participate in organized crime, and the police and military have been deployed in massive numbers in an ostensible fight against the cartels. The result is a country where thousands of heavily armed men - be they private actors or agents of the state - can kill with impunity.

Look at this poor man's agony. Look at his perseverance. His mind bending, back breaking, heart wrenching sacrifice! He's just one brother of one missing man. And he's found hundreds upon hundreds of missing brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, mom's, dads, grandparents, their bodies casually flung about the Mexican earth, in their final resting place. Terribly, uncomprehendingly sad! Now look at the Mexican government. Their outright obvious untruths, with the freedom to lie about anything they wish with absolute impunity! A national tragedy and cover up of enormous scale. Could I weep!

The government is the cartel. When I went to Guerrero where my grandparents live, I saw a hanging body on a wood pole, I was walking with my grandma we were going to the pueblo to buy snacks and I wanted to play on the slide, when we were heading back we went a different direction cuz my grandma said she wanted to visit her friend so I could see they're horses. So we were walking and theres almost like a group of people surrounded but not super surrounded, scattered u could say but looking a something I couldnt really see, I was 7 so i was short, and my grandma held my hand tight and was talking to me trying to distract me cuz she saw the body, and I was confused and we walked past the body and I saw, it was horrifying honestly. And my grandma was telling me not to look back, to look at the horses and trying to calm me down, this and that, I cant get that imagine out of my head still after years of therapy, it really did scare me and the police cant really do anything.

I have thought about going to Mexico and show my kid’s where their great grandparents came from. But after my friend who recently moved from Mexico told me, It’s easy to pin point Hispanics from the United States in Mexico. Especially if you are the first generation born in the United States. The way you speak Spanish and the way you dress makes it easy for someone with bad intentions to kidnap you for ransom. She has witnessed several kidnapping from simply walking down the street to the store. She’s learned to keep her mouth shut about it because she could be the next for going to the police. And sadly it’s hard to determine which police officer is under the cartels payroll. Needless to say taking my kids in rural Mexico away from tourists states is far beyond reason. Which is sad because it would be a dream to show my kids the little hut that my grandpa built for my grandma. ☹️

I'm Mexican, and I am blessed to have never encountered anything like this in my life. This video breaks my heart... In truth, this pain and suffering should serve as a message to all; this is the result of a generation that is heavily dependent on drugs and arrogance. Que tristeza... pero que persona tan mas noble hacer algo por su pais, y mas que nada, por aquellos que nunca regresaron a sus familias... Q.E.P.D. Dios te bendiga amigo.

I think it has to do with racism honestly. Many indigenous people live in Central American countries and are the main targets. Same patterns happen in the US in places where a lot of indigenous people are. NHI - no humans involved was even used on their cases and they went unsolved
@Iambunny-ry2os

@@Gekumatz it’s not drugs it’s capitalism and racism. If the US can keep crime high in South America more immigrants and poverty means cheaper labor bc you have desperate ppl trying to get away from horrible conditions. Without immigrants no crops would be grown as over 50% of labors for crops are immigrants. It’s capitalism and money that drives this
@kaybay5210
@kaybay5210 Жыл бұрын
@@Iambunny-ry2os it's also drugs, since the demand for illicit drugs is high worldwide and given mexico's position next to the USA (where it is among the highest) many cartel organizations situate themselves in the south of mexico for the favorable environment + their ability to consolidate their power over many impoverished people and also control the north where it's proximity is very close to the markets (border states of the US). Moreover, this issue is also due to corruption since many government officials (federal, state, local) are completely complicit in this matter bc they benefit from the profits of the cartel.

I get that you are trying to show compassion but try to look for ways to solve issues so people don’t have to migrate to your country for protection instead of just offering asylum to those that do a great service to their community. To even get that idea in your head of this video shows me your the type of person to use every news and twist it for their own political views. English isn’t my first language but I hope I made myself clear when I say your comment is not welcomed. Not everyone struggling wants to join your country. Some of us are willing to stay behind and try to make a difference in our country. Not leave our own for the safety of another land, specially one that has made it so clear that we, legal or illegal, aren’t welcomed by many of your current President’s supporters.

@@unintentionaleffectiveness4393 it's been made crystal freaking clear. Come here LEGALLY and you're welcomed with open arms. And by all means, I would love to see the Mexican peoples rise up and take back their country. Sadly, I've yet to see very many that can't be bought off by the drug cartel. Mexico WAS my favorite place to vacation but the last time I went was in 2009. I won't be returning until something changes. In the mean time, I pray that you get what you wish for, as I also wish there was something more we could do to put an end to the disgusting and senseless violence from the animals.

Christy Hankins miss me with that come here legally bullshit, you lot are racist and that’s simply what it is you confuse nationalism, it’s simply racist driven. I’ve been insulted multiple times although am I an American my skin color draws attention and blind hatred at the same time, don’t talk when you simply don’t understand.... let the last words resonate you’ve never lived my life, and I haven’t lived yours. So the most important thing we can do is understand, but that seems to be difficult to ignorance. Have a lovely night.

@@Christina-71 you know how hard is it to get there legally nearly impossible in some cases. The citizenship test is easy if you went to school here.
