The whole story is based on a lie. His parents told him, a 7-year-old, the real answer on where babies came from and became traumatized. His daughter at the end asks the same question and didn't want to scar her like he was, so he created this crazy-ass baby corporation that makes the babies and she ends up imagining her as the new boss baby. That's my theory anyway.

Animation, instead, should be a superior art form- seeing that it takes more money and more effort than anything live action. Oh yeah, and it builds messages and world that years upon years later, we still fondly remember and we still thoroughly enjoy. Remember Bambi? The soft blend of colors to make spring, the bright and vibrant sun to show summer was coming? "inferior" Remember Shrek? The monolith that took the world by storm because it did something new and had all sorts of new and original charm to it that had never been seen before? "inferior" Remember toy story? of course you do, It's toy Story. *So how the fuck is Live Action seen as the superior when in reality, we remember Animation better from how much it has shaped, changed, and been shown?*

@@No_Sleepee exactly. Childhood animated movies are kinda why nostalgia critic exists. Every time I see a video from a movie i saw when I little but had forgotten I literally get a wave of nostalgia seeing it. Not so much with movies that are serious and fuck live action. I read once someone's theory that the story is a kid dealing with his family's loss of a baby. Essentially, parents have the first baby that the little boy doesn't want around. He actively fights it in his imagination, but in reality he's dealing with the struggle of his parents turning all their attention to their sick newborn and the baby seems to be a villain to him. The baby ends up dying (getting promoted) and he misses this sibling that initially he didn't want. He asks his parents for his brother back. his parents try again, and luckily it's another little boy, not uncommon. And that's the current little brother he's grown up with. His story, his memory and his fantasies are all coping mechanisms for dealing with something he doesn't understand at 7 years old. I always thought that theory, while dark, was extremely interesting. Then I realized it gave too much credit to the writers of this movie.

He’s telling her the story, and she sees the car screen, not as her father is telling her, but what she’s know, her grandparents, must had show.
@Metroid4ever5 жыл бұрын
I think it's all just a giant allegory for how he processes the news of getting a little sibling. I mean, the kid's 7. That's a huge age gap to consider. My older sister and I are 6 years apart, and fought like cats and dogs growing up. Settled out once we became adults, but I imagine she wasn't all that excited about me arriving into the picture when she was already 6 years old. So the boy and Alec Baldwin baby go through a series of ups and downs throughout the film's run time, with the boy initially resisting the idea of a younger sibling, before realizing there is some fun that comes with having a younger sibling at times. It's not always gonna be easy, but it's not the end of the world, and it doesn't mean his parents will love him any less than they already do. When you look at the film in that perspective (which, you gotta give them credit, there's a reason they opened up showing how the boy has an incredibly active imagination), it does start to make sense.

The real problem with this movie is that it illustrates how few damns the Oscar committee gives about animation. If THIS can get nominated for an Oscar, then there's no point of anyone actually trying to make GOOD animated features of any value. They can just continue to puke out piles of animated schlock with no effort to advance or improve animation. It's also why you can almost guarantee an Oscar goes to the most recent Pixar or Disney film year after year since nobody else is trying. Even if you're like me and don't give a toss about the Oscars, the film industry itself does, and so it still has an effect on those of us who genuinely like animation and would rather not see bad slapstick and poop/fart jokes passing as good animations. In a decent world, Boss Baby shouldn't even be up for consideration, but those in Hollywood with actual power are so snobby against animation, probably considering it just for kids and lower tier in value, that they'll just keep half-assing the genre as cheaply as possible. We need to raise the bar of animation quality. Not just the actual illustration, but in it's ability to tell an imaginative story that's not restrained by live action.
@fireaza6 жыл бұрын
They created the "best animated picture" category specially to screw Beauty and the Beast out of winning "best picture". That tells you all you need to know about how little respect the Oscars have for animation.
@Gamer34276 жыл бұрын
The real problem is that the people who judge things like the Oscars don't actually take the time to watch most of the movies nominated. They vote based on hearsay or trailers, particularly if it's a category they don't have much interest in themselves. While I may not have as much experience with the Oscars on the whole, since I hold the system in low regard, from what I've seen they try to appeal less to the quality of the films, and more to the popularity......

the oscars are a joke, especially for animation. In no reality this should be paired with Coco for the same award. And in general, i feel that the "best animated picture" award is rather generic. Besides the fact the Disney wins it pretty much every year, it's a vague ass category. How can movies like, say, Loving Vincent and Valzer with Bashir be paired with Coco and Inside Out? Like, animation is a medium, not a genre.

How can it be a ripoff if they started production 4 years before Book of Life was even released? And even then, just because they share similar elements (i.e. Day of the Dead, up and coming musician, going to land of the dead) doesn't mean Coco is ripping off the Book of Life. Also, Coco put WAY more effort into establishing the rules and mechanics of the world they built. Book of Life does it on a more base-level, spiritual thing, which is fine, but Coco expanded more on the ideas presented in Book of Life. Also, they used the cliches to much greater effect. In Book of Life, the only reason the father hates music is because...he just hates music. That's it. In Coco, the family is against music because the patriarch of the family left his wife and daughter behind to pursue music and almost destroyed the family. So it makes more sense for the family to be against music as a whole. Sorry for the rant, but I hate it when people dismiss Coco (the MUCH better movie) as a ripoff of Book of Life without really analyzing or thinking about it.

Only the tutor is a baby in a suit and fedora who uses cruel and sadistic methods of training the kid, while everyone laughs at how an infant is beating up a 12 year old, with no one knowing Reborn's a hitman in his 40's trapped in the body of an infant. Nothing to do with corrupt politicians, just people who have no idea how to recognize animation. Just before this last Oscars the voting process for Best Animated Feature accommodated so that ALL Academy members could nominate rather than just the specific animation branch. This was already kind of an issue prior but this change made things WAY worse. This category is just way too much in its infancy to really be as nuanced as the other categories. Hopefully things will get better and the Academy figures out what to do with the category. Lol

The Oscars make plenty of dumb nominations. But, despite that, I still like having them around. They hand out awards to a lot of venerable films and people as well. This past year, Gary Oldman won best actor, and Sam Rockwell won best supporting actor. They're two of the most versatile actors in Hollywood; they totally deserved to win! I hear a lot of folks saying the "Oscars need to die," but I think they're just overly pessimistic.

The problem with the Oscar thing is that the whole Animated Feature Oscar category is a joke and an insult created because live-action film creators got angry about Beauty and the Beast being nominated for best picture in the 90's. Apparently, they don't realize or respecting the time, skill, artistry, man-power, and acting ability (from not just the voice actors, but live-action models, AND animators themselves) to create an animated film. It's just that horrible lack of respect for animation we suffer from in the U.S. Practically every animated feature released tends to get nominated each year (though perhaps that has changed, since there are now many more animated features produced). Having said that, I did NOT want to see Boss Baby having seen the trailers, but I decided to give it a try when it came on Netflix due to a good review from Brad Jones, and he was totally right, it was extremely funny and clever. Weird, yes, but not in a bad way at all. I really enjoyed this movie.
@poweroffriendship2.06 жыл бұрын
Well, I admired about Boss Baby. Some people practically joking, "let's put a baby on a business suit". But beside that, the movie has a great message between love, imagination, childhood, maturity, and some themes. The titular character was matured despite he's a baby. If you already have enough IQ to understand this movie, you'll be glad that you've watch Rick and Morty all the time. The Oscars part? That's fine. At least they give the award to Coco anyways and this movie got nominated. Lego Batman Movie was funny and creative but it needs more attention. Not all people were winners though. Not even celebrities too.

Personally, when I first heard about this movie, I thought it was going to be about some short adult man, posing himself as a baby in order to just freeload. And then the kid finds out, and attempts to reveal the secret to his parents, while the man does everything he can (in ways that he can still guise as baby things) to stop the kid. Thinking on it, it would probably work better as a cartoon episode for something like Tom & Jerry or Looney Tunes, but still. That's what I thought it was going to be about.

I didn't think the movie was THAT bad, to be honest. I mean, it's BAD, but it had a couple of funny moments and it had a likable chemistry between the two main characters. That being said, I HAVE NO FREAKIN' CLUE how this got nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards. Especially with movies like Coco, The Breadwinner and Loving Vincent in the competition.
@mayormccheese26416 жыл бұрын
Yeah. I’ve seen so many worse animated films. This is bad, but probably like a 5/10. At least the animation is appealing. I just think it’s really generic and underwhelming.

it was nominated for best ANIMATED picture, which coco won. it was not nominated for best picture.

From what I understand it has a lot do with a bunch of very interesting but unintentional psychological themes.

@@RYMAN1321 I thought is was a massive improvement. I would give it a 6.3 out of 10. Tina was much better than boss baby and the movie had genuinely heartwarming moments. The moments between tabitha and Tim are good as well. The writing is still messy but the characters are much more interesting. The villain is much better and the ending is really wholesome. It's not DreamWorks finest sequel but miles better than trolls 2. Overall entertaining movie but still messy writing
@DrWolf-jl4po Жыл бұрын
@@RYMAN1321 to me, the sequel was not as bad as the first, but that's like asking which would you choose, getting hit in the face with a hammer or a fist. Obviously you're gonna go for the less painful option.

I mean I don't there there was a question in the world that Coco was going to win. I'm tempted to believe Dreamworks knew this and adjusted their release schedule at some point to compensate.

You know, Alec Baldwin was also the voice of Makunga in Madagascar: escape 2 Africa. He voiced the villain of my favorite DreamWorks movie and the hero of my most hated DreamWorks movie. I can't help but feel that's symbolic.
@Lauren_2106 жыл бұрын
Legoking 616 He was also the voice of North in Rise of the Guardians where he provided a much better vocal performance especially since he put on a Russian accent, which really distinguished the voice of his character from his natural speaking voice.
@hunterolaughlin3 жыл бұрын
@@Lauren_210 I still hear North and I still refuse to believe that's Alec Baldwin himself providing the voice. That is how great of a job he did when voicing that character for that film.
