8:15 this joke was made more sharply and more succinctly in Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, when Flint distracts Sam with a cute video while he tweaks his machine and she goes "how have I been watching this for three hours?" It's kind of a hand wave about how he easily distracted her long enough to reprogram his device but also takes a small jab at people going down YT rabbit holes. It's so weird that the same company made both of these movies. Also, how is it that Sony can also make movies like Smurfs or Peter Rabbit, but also make Spider-Verse and Mitchells vs. the Machines? What's the key factor that makes some of these movies timeless gems and some of them utter piles of garba- oh it's Lord and Miller.

Well technically it wasn't going to be a movie it was a short to show Sony what the animators could do but turned it down for 15 reasons why AKA: the emoji movie

It’s obvious, but the film would have been more logical and realistic (yes, for a film where the “protagonists” are sentient emoji) if the antagonist had been a virus. It gives Gene a far better goal and possibly a corruption storyline. The film could even have dabbled in identity theft where Gene is tempted to fill the role of another. Yes, it’s enormously derivative of Wreck it Ralph, but it’d at least be trying to contain a moral about how you can’t always trust that the person your talking to is who they say they are. This could have been Alex’s storyline, he’s downloaded a virus and he’s being manipulated or data theft or something. It even provides a mystery angle on the inside the phone storyline as Gene and co have to work out who the virus is. Perhaps is the virus uses avatars based on the photos on Alex’s phone, twisted by photo filters or effects. That would be creepy and while it’s Wreck it Ralph again, it may provide some insight in how Alex thinks.

Well, making an actual message would “give Alex a personality!” Movies like Inside Out, Monsters Inc, Toy Story and so on had very interesting kid characters that actually do stuff in the story. All Alex does is fumble on trying to talk to a girl we don’t know anything about either! Into the Spiderverse took 4 years to make (and 800 people). It was in production long before the Emoji movie came out. My theory is that it was taking longer to be ready then they expected, but had to release something in the interim. So since all their best people and most of their budget had gone into Spiderverse by this point, they had the bottom of the barrel people to make this hated film.

I agree with the Critic on this movie. It's not the worst movie I've seen as it does have creative and colorful visuals, nice animation, and decent character designs (mostly for Addie McAllister and the Just Dance instructor, Akiko Glitter). But everything else is pointless, unbalanced, make no sense, and feels wrong. As is, it's just a meh movie, being uninteresting and unfocused with its characters and story.
