Black Noir's little cartoon buddies were the most reassuring and simultaneously unsettling things about his character. He did the most violent, brutal murders and we can see that they impacted him emotionally (arguably more brutal than Homelander's because they were so hands-on), but knowing that he was able to pacify himself like this is so unsettling.

FYI, the 'bennies' that Soldier Boy snorts aren't benzodiazepines. It's an old slang term for Benzedrine, the trade name for the first commercially available amphetamines. They were used heavily by soldiers during WWII, especially those in elite units (like Soldier Boy) who might have to be awake for days at a time.
@lost4468yt
@lost4468yt 11 ай бұрын
Amphetamine is still used in many millitaries. The US Air Force only replaced it (though technically amphetamine can still be used, and likely would in a full scale war) once modafinil became available. And that was because amphetamine + sleep deprivation was implicated in accidents.

Poor Noir. I would say it's likely he was both struggling with physical damage coupled with his natural coping mechanisms and his imagination felt comfortable and safe where he feels like he can be vulnerable and communicate safely with his friends.

I genuinely think Homelander needs therapy and a healthy support system. I would never ask a therapist to do this though, because it's probably akin to that doctor signing their own death warrant. And that's a shame.

Unfortunately Homelander's far past that point I'm a strong believer in rehabilitation, but the one thing that makes rehabilitation impossible is power. The only way Homelander could ever heal is if he lost his powers and was forced to reckon with his humanity.

You were very helpful Georgia, in fact when I found myself getting angry at The Boys and it's popularity, I figured that your The Boys videos were a great place to share my hatred for that franchise. Because of your initial response, you not only showed me that you are the right person to share these feelings with, you also reminded me that it's part of your job, so I got the idea to share my negative feelings about The Boys with my therapist. Just to remind you I posted what my therapist said in your video about Butcher.

I realized just now that perhaps the reason why Homelander knows exactly what to say to his son is because Soldier Boy taught him exactly what not to say. Having overtly abusive parents creates more of an impetus to change as an adult…subtly abusive and neglectful parents cause more damage long term. Was your dad like Soldier Boy?

Honest question: why therapists are so averse to labels and categorizing? I understand the rationale behind it, that labels are limiting, but isn't rejecting it also limiting? I mean, think about mainstream medicine: the best way to treat any disease is to categorize it first.

Talking to yourself is healthy and normal you say, BUT is it around many people? Where I work, there is a worker with a mental situation that talks to himself all the time. Sometimes, seems he talks to an invisible friend. It gets VERY VERY IRRITATING!!! 1 time couldn't help myself after 1 full day work, I told him politely to shut up, he disturbed me and others. So is it healthy and normal???
@NottherealLucifer
@NottherealLucifer Жыл бұрын
First and foremost "normal" isn't a word anyone should be using when discussing mental health issues, there is no "normal" when it comes to human minds, but I understand that for everyday conversation the word does serve a purpose. Just asking "Is this mentally healthy?" or "Is this a sign of any mental illnesses or conditions?" is a better way of wording the questions. So, in general, talking to yourself out loud, even in public, is a perfectly healthy thing to do. There are people who don't run the same kind of internal dialogue as most of us, or who just prefer audibly hearing their thoughts, and these people function better when they speak their thoughts out loud. That aside, certain types of speaking to oneself can be cause for alarm, as certain mental illnesses like schizophrenia have this type of behavior as a symptom. If your coworker seems to just be "thinking out loud" then they're probably fine, but you did say it seems like he's talking to an imaginary friend, which _could_ be evidence for some level of schizophrenia. Essentially, if he's speaking as if there's an entire other human being he's talking to, but you're only hearing one half of a conversation he's having with himself, or the content of the conversation seems to be dangerous, those might be signs of schizophrenia or some other such ailment. If you think that might be the case, have a conversation with him about it, gently so as not to offend him and so it doesn't feel like you're accusing him of something. If he agrees that from his perspective he's having an actual conversation with a separate voice then you might be able to convince him to visit a mental health professional just to figure out for sure if all is well. Neither you nor I are professionals here, so the best we can ever do is ask someone to visit someone who actually is, as politely as we can. It essentially always sounds rude coming from anyone but our close friends and family, so if you happen to know any of them that might be the best avenue. Regardless, he's probably fine, but really everyone should be getting mental health check ups just like we all get regular medical doctor check ups.
