I think what he refers to as the "biggest scam" is Kellogg's advertisement slogan "Breakfast is the most important meal of the day" to sell his cornflakes. A slogan parrotted and preached by many people to this day. And a claim, as far as I know, without any scientific proof. So it's not that you SHOULD skip breakfast, but that you CAN skip breakfast without negative consequences if you're not hungry.

What I find very suspicious about D. Sinclair is that he always says: You age because of this ... and that is the fact! I have read quite a few articles and there is still no consensus about the causes of ageing, probably it is a combination of many factors. So anybody who claims he knows exactly how it is, loses credibility in my eyes immediately...

Actually, intermittent fasting is not about skipping breakfast. It's about not eating for a longer period of time than the usual duration we are accustomed to. Proponents of IF never equate or advocate it as a breakfast-skipping deal. It just so happened that for many people, a 14 to 16-hour fasting often involved skipping breakfast due to the usual human meal-time habits. You can also achieve IF if you skip dinner and only have breakfast and lunch. Having said this, I do believe that for a healthy adult, having only two well-balanced meals a day is more than sufficient.

@@AdamScottfit No, you're right about that, Adam. To each his own. But I'm wondering, is your larger breakfast a healthy one, full of fiber and protein and nutrient rich foods? If it's a larger breakfast full of more sugary stuff, then the larger intake of processed or sugary foods will spike your insulin, and create dramatic and somewhat unnatural hunger cravings later on. I'm not denying what you're saying, we're all different in many respects. And some people have NO hunger or desire for food first thing in the morning as well... But I'd be interested in what kinds of foods you're taking in for breakfast that cause increases in hunger later on. Thanks.

Same. I can't deal with lots of tiny meals, I need to eat well, and then I'm good for hours and hours. All the 4-5-6 "diet meals" just keep me permanently hangry, and I'll break eventually. Big ass breakfast for me, and a couple of hours later I'm ready for hard training, big dinner, and then something small in the evening, because I'm not very hungry.

"Breakfast" literally comes from the words "break" and "fast" so even if you're fasting, the first meal you eat is your "breakfast". "skip breakfast" how do you do that? I mean, fasting is a metabolic process that occurs when you don't eat overnight, and then, some hours (or days) later, you break that process by eating, you break fasting by eating, no matter if you do it at 8 am or 8 pm, you eat breakfast at any hour after fasting. But, yeah, it's a scam.

People like novelty. Now that keto is old news and everyone has tried it it’s all about OMAD and the magic of fasting and the horror of seed oils. Meanwhile the advice to cut calories if you are overweight and eat a lot of plants and less saturated fat and junk is still ignored despite it being what works and what the science has said for decades. It’s very dispiriting.

I was eating OMAD later in the evenings and fasting all day out of convenience and laziness, but after I heard Valter Longo say skipping breakfast was correlated with a variety of negative outcomes (and he tentatively says skipping dinner may be beneficial vs standard 3 meals, but 12 hour window w/ 3 meals is fine also), I'm switching my eating schedule to having 2-3 meals between 8am & 3pm, and fasting in the evenings/overnight. I believe in addition to the epidemiological studies Longo cites there are also some RCTs showing this does in fact improve blood glucose, insulin resistance, and sleep quality.

While he is hyperbolic and think everybody works like him, the same goes for the "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" people. For decades I tried to force myself to eat breakfast and I hate it. I feel disgusted to have food in my mouth (except liquid) and when I try to eat it my stomach gets bloated and I get gasses. I felt miserable about it until I eventually accepted that my first meal is best at 10-12am. At best I can have coffee with milk after I wake up.
