Minor adjustments: tapping B after your first cap throw + dive + cap jump gives you a kick spin that stalls you in the air for a little longer. Can be used for better horizontal distance without any loss in height (though I'm not sure if it adds height, maybe a very tiny amount). For max height, you can start with a triple jump instead of a ground pound jump. While I'm not sure if it's actually higher than a ground pound jump, the height of the ground pound jump is dependent on your timing, whereas the triple jump is much more of a yes/no. Triple jump is also going to be used much more in speedrunning, as the ground pound has a delay. Like with the wall skip you showed in the desert, a triple jump off the three sand pillars leading up to it will have enough height to make a cap throw dive work without touching the wall.

you put a lot of effort and work on your videos, even before the notification appears, you already have the subtitles and the 1080p)
The thing is, I don't think we even know all of the movement combinations. Like for instance, there's actually two variants of the cappy catch jump. If you haven't done a dive yet, the normally horizontal spin changes to a small mid-air hopping spin, with a rainbow streak instead of the normally white one. And then there's also the ground pound roll boost, wherein if you roll immediately after a ground pound, the roll is immediately boosted as well, useful for getting the speed to do a longer jump off a small platform/ledge.

Some of the Dark Side challenges require mastery of rolling and momentum conservation as well.

3:34 what's interesting is that some jumps DO require you to use both the X and Y buttons. There's the ground pound cappy roll jump, the instant roll cancel, and also diving w/ cappy still thrown. Cappy roll: Y(hold) B Z (hit ground) X Roll cancel: B Z (hit ground) quickly(X Y+B) Dive: Y B Z+X or X B Z+Y The X Y+B movement feels like just rolling your finger down to the Y and B buttons.

Good video. Definitely agree. The controls and physics of Odyssey feel REALLY good. The only complaint I've had, period, is a personal issue with camera, although you raise a good point about some of the motion- based controls. Some of these ARE possible without motion controls, although it does tend to be less convenient. B does speed up rolls though, although perhaps less efficiently? Haven't used the motion version of that. Spin throws are possible by winding up Mario's spin before throwing. And it turns out you can activate the fast ground throw right after a ground pound. Haven't found a vertical throw alternative yet, though. I should really play with the joy cons more since some of the throws are really handy.

Cappy roll jumps are the most efficient way to travel horizontally, but it also depends on the vertical level - if you're traveling straight horizontally or horizontally and downwards at the same time, it's a Cappy roll jump, but it's otherwise a triple jump. A Cappy roll jumps can be pulled off as such: Throw Cappy, then jump, ground pound, and directly after landing hold forwards and press X.
@_joey_a03_7 жыл бұрын
hey, Great video, but i for best horizontal moment, try cappy throw (hold) jump(ground pound) roll into cappy to jump, wait for max jump length then cappy throw, then jump dive, then bounce again, then once you reach max length again, cappy throw then jump dive again for more length. this is a suggestion, idk if its longer that what you have, but i have tested which is longer and which is not, and the strat that im saying seems longer... but it is a little bit harder since you have to hold a butten while inputting other buttons

Right, it is "pretty much" the same, but it matters when you're competing for times in Koopa Freerunning or when speedrunning the game in general. Other examples from memory: Bullet Bills can only perform extra boosts using motion, Frogs can only jump the highest using motion, the poison piranha plants can only rapid fire using motion, and the freeze clouds can only exhale at full force using motion. And as far as Cappy goes, you also need motion to perform a downward throw and the homing attack.

@Zinkolo7 жыл бұрын
Andy-opia thank you. I tried saying that the motion controls are completely optional and aren't at all necessary for any of the moves. You can climb fast with Y too. It's all optional and only for fun
@Zinkolo7 жыл бұрын
Aaron Luedemann that's not really a bad thing. Also mashing Y is also fast. Motion controls are used as something that adds and makes everything better but never necessary. Saying this is necessary for speedruns isn't a valid argument. Everything can be done without motion controls and mashing Y can bring you the equivalent speed of shaking
@Zinkolo7 жыл бұрын
Aaron Luedemann I'm just saying. Using speedruns as an argument is like saying something is bad because it can't be done with a glitch. There's a lot of BS speedrunners have to do to play fast. And if anything this is the best implementation of motion controls because they're actually useful and add but don't detract. If you're doing a speedrun it's likely you'll be doing it docked and not handheld. And usually the motion controls are actually very fun believe it or not. So I don't think it's worth complaining about something when it's not actually a legitimate complaint. Nowhere in the video did he say this was bad because of speedrun issues. Clearly in the video he made several errors about Mario's move sets and many other things
@Zinkolo7 жыл бұрын
Aaron Luedemann and down throw isn't a very necessary move. In fact it's almost downright useless. Same for up throw
@Zinkolo7 жыл бұрын
Aaron Luedemann the motion controls are there to make it fun doing something advantageous. This is the best way they could implement them without detracting from the gameplay in anyway as I never felt annoyed with them since they only added and playing in handheld is fine because I can do the same without losing anything. Motion controls are a way of like cheating and doing things way faster than normal. The point of this comment was to state that you could indeed easily roll fast without motion which is true. It's a fact

The cappy movement combos in this game are more impressive and feel better to pull off than any combo anyone will ever be able to do in Marvel Infinite.

6:22 you can get farther still - you can do one more jump. Before you throw cappy the last time, hit jump instead to do an air twirl, then throw cappy and dive jump.

Rolling has a button. The x or y button. There is also a situation where you'll need zl, x, y and a/b: Cappy roll jump.

No need for a patch - every move (other than the upward cap toss) can be performed using button combinations.

Hyped for speedruns of this game.

Yeah, I also figured the wall jump into cappy throw into dive out myself and it's really nothing amazing but it felt damn good. Afterwards I told my mom and she was blown away. :D

One more thing, the lack of a lives system or fall damage goes far into making players more likely to try these otherwise risky maneuvers repeatedly until their skills are honed. This game is basically a big bouncy-castle for Mario to enjoy.

I can't WAIT to see odyssey speed runs!

Also you can spin in mid air if you press the jump button just as cappy returns to you in order to get more distance

My favourite is throw the cap, roll into it to jump, throw the cap midair, dive into it which gives you another jump, and then you can throw the hat and dive once more

You can actually spin before you throw Cappy the second time. You long jump, throw Cappy, dive bounce, *press b to spin*, then throw Cappy again, and dive bounce again

3:35 for a cappy roll jump you need X

Triple jump gets you slightly higher than a ground pound jump, and the Cappy Groundpound Roll Jump with a cap dive to another dive is a lot better than a long jump.

I just started playing odyssey and I’m surprised at how easy all of this is. It only took a couple minutes to figure out how Mario controls in the air, and all of the jumps are super satisfying.

So I was wrong, the game hasn't been "completely" watered down for casuals but in fact upgraded in some ways. Running speed has still been aggravatingly slowed from 64 and Sunshine, and so has wall-jumping but the upgraded gameplay gives it nuance like never before. Bravo Nintendo, this is the first time I've been interested in the game. Excellent video.

Awesome video! This helped me a great deal, although I had to reduce the playspeed to 0,25 at one point :-D Now for the most important question: Do I hear an Austrian accent? :-P

Now we have roll cancel vectors, spin pound cappy roll jumps, and triple jumps into cappy bounces into wall jumps into dives.

After watching this video, I played my friend's copy of the game, ready to show her how good I am and the tech I learned... I forgot to dive and fell to my death. Nailed it!
@Droobie032 жыл бұрын
There is a really hard move where you use motion control to throw cappy up, hold the throw button, ground pound jump into cappy and then use motion control to throw cappy down, hold the throw button then groundpound while still holding the thow button and then roll into cappy while pushing the joy stick forward. This can let Mario go super far.

I watch Mario Odyssey videos every day, but now I really want to play it.

You forgot to mention the ground pound jump > cap throw (hold cappy out) > another ground jump > cap jump off of held cap > wall jump > cap throw > cap dive

You don't need to shake your switch, you can rotate left stick and when mario start rotating press X or Y. Another move, press ZL then y repeatedly to mario roll.
@Zinkolo7 жыл бұрын
giggione71 yeah. It's all the motion controls are completely optional and very well implemented. How does he not know that you can just tap Y to roll??
