Should have been a cheap binder of failed buyout Lotus Petals. Lighthouse wouldn't get the full volume you needed. Also, if no limited edition signed Timmy land, your repack was not a success. So you should consider going back again for a trim to possibly get an Authenticate Altered card worth $0.

My concern is the shift to flashy, collector's products reminds me of how the Comics Industry looked in the late 90's. You could buy five different variant covers of a book that was poorly drawn and written. If WotC loses their focus on gameplay, it's all over.

The sports card industry has had direct-to-consumer singles sales for a few years now (they started experimenting with it in the early 2000s). People still go crazy for sealed product. Secret Lair doesn't scare me. Fetchlands as ONLY being a premium product, and numbered/stamped/signed cards -- which aren't really going to be able to be used in a deck -- do scare me. The product needs to be predominantly geared toward game play, not collectibility. Get rid of some of the trash reprints that appear in EVERY set (Titanic Growth, 2/2 Bears, etc.). Make 5-card packs where every card is conceivably useful and eliminate all of the fluff that just ends up in the trash. Better product and less waste.
@blindey

They're going to be in regular packs of MH2 next year at least. And the collector boosters. Not in "regular 4 dollar packs" but pretty close.
@Hotlog69
@Hotlog69 3 жыл бұрын
Getting rid of cards that are always printed in sets would lower the set size. Even with less cards a pack. Eventually you'll get duplicates which at that point you'll toss them away as trash(waste). Also if people are going to buy numbered/stamped/signed cards that'll never be played with. How is that an issue? A fool and their money is soon parted.
@Colorado0091
@Colorado0091 3 жыл бұрын
What about Draft? Even though I don't like the idea of somewhat useless vanilla creatures, those cards are essential to playing draft. Yes you could make some of those cards just be a better version of it, but I don't think that you can fill whole sets without having some fillers. Not gonna lie, I don't like fillers, but they seem necessary.

I got into MtG right at the very beginning of the silver age, played from 00-07 then got back in 2017 but pretty much out of it now. It was kind of wild seeing the difference in pack price from silver age & bronze age product given the print run. My LGS had RTR/Theros block packs for the same price as the current stuff up into 2019... Whatever this new era is called I think we're going to see a shift of the folks that would crack a box going to just buying singles.

I think about these things for tech, collectibles, actual eras, etc. So I will break it down: Before mtg was a thing but it was being conceptualized and prototyped, was The Stone Age. Then came the first runs with basic interest at a trade con where some liked the cards, and many, believe it or not, was tossing em at the convention. This was shortly before the cards were released but then they blew up in popularity; this was both the copper/bronze age and the Golden Age of Magic (alpha, beta, unlimited and arabian nights). Then came the iron age/silver age very quickly when antiquities, revised, legends, Dark, had come out already. But finally the tackier plastic age occurred when money grubbing created what are still considered by some as the worst sets but also sets many of us loved cause they WERE so cheap ( Fallen Empires and Homelands). However some semblances of reason were left, and 4th edition kept things rolling in a good way, along with Ice Age, which was a beautiful set that healed some of the damage done. Then in true balancing fasion Chronicles was released which many though insane, but it, again, was good for those of us that missed most of the cards from previous sets. And it was more affordable. Mirage was cool though many still consider it racist from some viewpoints, leading to the first truly "ethnic" based set after Arabian Nights and its middle eastern motif. But one could argue they were all part of whatever age; gold/silver, bronze, whatever. The fact is that by August 1999 when Starter came out, Hasbro brought the company, and that was the end of the tumultuous but awesome "OG" period of classic MTG I and many others witnessed. Things began to cool for some as interest dwindled ( card pun, look it up lol) and one could say all the types of era references would be superfluous. The sets of the last 10 years though, are beyong labeling with noble metals, or even copper, bronze or iron, and are more likely to be loosely associated with steel of plastic. WHom cares lol. CIAO! :P

I got back into magic THIS year from getting my cards all stolen after alliances/mirage era and I freaking HATE this. I hate there's so many "tiers" of product to get the good cards, instead of you know, pulling them. The return to Spendikar with its booster and now SUPER boosters AND collector boosters? Can we just have one product face per set? And not a new set every 3 months with half of the cards from older sets being re-re-re-released, it feels like if you do anything but buy the cards you want directly a set later, you're just letting them bleed you. It's depressing, as fun as commander has been since I've been back

I genuinely believe in 5 years time WAR-Commander Legends will be looked back on very very positively as I reckon were done on collectors boxes soon and I reckon they’ll slow down Secret Lairs next year. Thoughts 🤷🏼‍♀️ (this is based on the “rumours” that Hasbro told WOTC to pump out products for 2019/2020 and the fact that wallet fatigue is beginning to set in a lot more over here in the UK Edit: I never clarified lol, it will be looked back on positively as the wallet fatigue will wear off and we will have all of these promos to look back on and use without having to constantly think about the next flashy product. Also I included WAR in this for the Japanese alternate art walkers.

WAR and ravnica guilds/allegiance actually had collector boxes. The mythic edition was the first time they tried to introduce a special high end box. The market rejected it and on core 19 they didnt had them anymore. Throne of eldraine finally came up with the collector boxes as we know them today. In the beginning these were kinda meh as well so wizards put more rare slots in the upcoming collectors. I think especially the shiftover sets like war of the sparks and both of the ravnicas have huge potential to get overseen in the short term what makes it a great opportunity. Especially these mythic edition boxes are very rare. I think the flashy aera nowadays is going to end soon, so these will be a great opportunity too. Thanks for the realtalk videos Rudy and keep the funky hair rockin

I started at the end of unlimited. I played through the release of everything up until mirage homelands. Although my cards were all stolen, I stopped playing when it all changed. Even while i was playing, I always wondered why cards only got worse as new sets were released, ie. Lightning Bolt vs Shock etc. I wanted more first turn kills, and more first turn counters. I created my own sets and desks. I don't have any magic cards any more, but i have some proxy desks to play with. I made the top tire proxy decks, and then created a set to defeat those (without being too absurd - with actual playable cards and ideas). I'll never play magic competitively again. I've got the best desks tho :b
