Thanks for your endorsement of this machine. I returned to sewing as a late beginner (near retirement) and this machine makes sense price wise and is very good quality for the money. I sew mostly cotton to stay cool and this machine is perfect. I love the simple lines of the machine. The complexity of the computerized machines makes my eyes glaze over. I wanted something simple and straightforward. It is not too light in weight but is easily storable. I enjoyed your hearty presentation on this machine.

Hi Zae Wae! When I was under ten years old, I took sewing lessons> It went nowhere. Nobody smiled is what I remember the most. I am now going on 63 (in 4 days), and I am excited to get started again! Thanks for the review. I was searching high and low for info on the Brother Strong and Tough models and found very little info on them. I was looking at the 571 model which is like the 371, except it has one step buttonhole and a few more stitches. Ultimately, I decided to go with Brother ST150, because it does slightly better on thick fabrics and I plan on making slipcovers for my sofa and loveseat and think the computerized one might do better for this project.

Im having a hard time pinning down the thread tension for sewinf nylon webbing. I make dog collars so I use short, tight straight stitches.

I would say try to use the tightest stitch tension.

Hey beautiful! Yes, it's can. You just want to make sure you change the needle to a smaller needle for the silk fabric.

I do leatherworking and have considered a sewing machine for ages, but the things in the leather community are Juki or Cobra machines that cost $1500 and up. This weekend at the ren faire, my girlfriend said she wanted to get a sewing machine and start sewing so she could make more of her own stuff and I said I don't know anything about sewing machines, but we'll research it. A few clicks later and I found your video, and I think we're sold on it! What weight and temper of leather are you sewing with this? Most of what we do would be soft 2-3oz garment leather... nothing too major. I'll still do the thick stuff by hand.

@KODIAK Works like a charm. I've done soft temper chrome and oil tans with it. I haven't messed with veg tan leathers yet, but I've gone back to doing most stuff by hand anyway.

I would have to say that they both performed very well!!!!! The singer heavy duty does push out more power when sewing. So I think I'm going to still get it!

Thanks for this. I honestly felt you were being completely real. I've been torn between this and the brother st150hdh. Have you tried the computerized version? I make bags and I've been using the cs6000i. I love it and with the right needle it sews through leather but not like some of the reviews I've seen for the strong and tough.
