I studied this car for 3 years before buying it. I have a 2LT hard top in torch red with Z51. I work night shifts and when I finish my work, seeing this car parked in the lot with the sun beaming on it never fails to put a smile on my face. America has its own problems and issues, but this car is something else. Beautiful work of engineering. I love Italian and German cars but this is home. This is what America is supposed to be. Not all. I can afford a C8 but I'd never buy one because they don't come in a manual, first and foremost. I used to have a C7 Z06 that I bought new. Sold that after a few years for an Audi, and then 2 years ago I decided to go back to Corvette. Could have gotten a C8, or another C7 but I actually decided on a C6 Z06 because I preferred the easier customization (can't buy an aftermarket head unit on a C7/8 as they have infotainment units, for example) and more analog features like manual hand brake for power slides plus that giant 427 motor. And I use the $2k per month I save on car payments and put it into the C6 on mods. The C8 is a cool car, but if someone wants a car like a traditional corvette, the C8 isn't for them. Kinda like the Mustang Mach-E isn't really a Mustang and people that want an actual Mustang would be disappointed if they bought a Mach-E. While a lot of the hate is misguided, I don't think the haters are totally off base. The C8 is a cool looking car, imo. And to the people that say "it's not a corvette", well, the corvette is whatever Chevy says it is. Having said that, it's certainly not a corvette in the traditional sense. While I think the mid engine is a great concept and makes the car a better performer, not only does it deviate from traditional corvette design, but it makes it FAR less practical. Maybe it has the same overall cargo space, but they split it in half so it kills the practicality that the C5-C7 Corvettes have. It also doesn't come in a manual, which is just disgraceful, imo. Also, the price tag jumped so much that it's no longer the "affordable super car", it's now just "possibly attainable". They essentially killed the main points that make a corvette a corvette. Is it a cool car? Yes. Is it a PERFORMANCE improvement over the C7? Arguably yes (though that fat piggy is almost 2 tons and weighs like 700lbs more than a C6). Outside of the name given by Chevy, is it a corvette? In my opinion, no. Not at all. I believe they should have named this car something entirely different and either kept producing the C7 or killed the vette all together. Either way, the Corvette is dead to me after 2019.

Everyone has their own opinion on aesthetics. I find the C8 somewhat brutish-looking inside and out, a bit messy with angles, so I don't personally care for the design. I do like some of the tech, such as the cameras and GPS-set raising function for driveways and such, which is quite useful! God bless Zora Duntov Arkus for even considering the switch to a midengine design that if we had it going sooner, the competition would have been using the Corvette as a template instead of the other way around. I hate the Ferrari company as they're a bunch of stuck up snobs who laugh at their own farts, but there is no question they make the game's most emotive automobiles. GM is different from Dodge and their Vipers and Ford with their GT: they go out and actually put out a factory team to compete in endurance racing just like every other high end sports car company. As a PhD consulting and race engineer, I believe that the REAL reason there wasn't a mid-engine Corvette had to do with what happened to GM with the Corvair. The Corvair rear (not mid) engine layout, coupled with the swing-axle rear suspension layout (up until the 1965 Corvair, which had fully independent rear suspension) led to numerous lawsuits, Ralph Nader and ultimately the demise of the Corvair and NHTSA. The swing axle layout (same as VW slug bugs) was chosen because it was cheap. However, in large roll angle maneuvers the car could experience rear wheel tuckunder and a loss of control crash. To combat these inherently bad handling qualities, GM specified drastic tire pressures on the Corvair: 14 psi front 29 psi rear. Since no owner or gas station attendant would ever read the glove compartment door to determine proper tire pressures, that didn't work. The Corvair with 29 psi all around became an oversteer car with a critical speed of around 25 mph, depending on payload. Above the critical speed, steering is phase-reversed (steer left to go right!). Once bit, twice shy, and GM was gunshy for decades before the C8 and vehicle dynamics analysis got better. As with all cars, you can only change the car's velocity vector and momentum with external forces, and they call come from the tires. Porsche had similar problems with the 356 and later the 911 but developed ever more sophisticated analysis techniques for most cases (counterexample: early 911 Turbos which were derisively call "widow makers").

Got an early '23 Z06 from MacMulkin for MSRP. and knew within days the car wasn't for me. Ended up getting an '18 M7 Z with 6k miles in mint condition and sold the '23 for more than I paid once the 6 months were up. The C8Z is a great track car, but for around town driving and trips, the M7 C7Z is smaller, lighter, has better storage and visibility, better fuel economy, sounds WAY better, and cost me ~$50k less than I sold the '23 for, plus has the stick...And I would never own the LT6 and DCT once the warranty was gone...Extended warranty is a must if you plan on keeping the car long term IMO. Save the wave fellas!

I loved my 2024 C8 Convertible, but there were so many of them it didn’t feel special. Plus there’s a blind spot on sides of the car and if wasn’t for blind spot warning it would be tough to change lanes in traffic. It’s a beautiful car, drives and sounds great but not exclusive. I sold it after 6 months and I’m hoping to get a 2025 Porsche GTS. Dope car, but I want a special car that everybody doesn’t drive.

I think the overall design of the C8 is really nice. What I don't like is trend of filling panels and openings with random, disjointed angular details instead of refined, flowing lines. Compare the C8 to a McLaren 720. You can tell every curve on the 720 was meticulously refined and the car has a cohesive style. The C8 just has too many unnecessary details, too many angles, too many random shapes, it's just too busy. Look at the tail lights, the side vents, the front fascia, it's just details for the sake of details. Nothing flows. Nothing forms a coherent connection to the rest of the car. And the interior is even worse with all the little winglets on the dash, the ultra-busy gear select buttons, how the display is just tacked on as a totally separate unit that overlaps the mode select area at a totally arbitrary angle. Sometimes less is more. I get that these are current, popular design trends, but approaching $100k, the Corvette should establish trends, not follow them. Performance per dollar, no question, it's absolutely amazing. But this thing has gotten way, WAY too expensive to look like it was designed by teenagers who just saw the latest Transformers movie and have posters of the F-117 Nighthawk on their bedroom wall.

I believe the biggest issue with the C8 is that it simply doesn't look like a Corvette. Also, Corvette was an American style front engine sports car. This car is more of a European exotic. The Corvette had some mid engine concepts over the decades, but they weren't produced for the public. They are nice looking for what they are, but should've been marketed as a different model. IMO
@kermitkurtz3337Ай бұрын
Couldn’t agree with you more. The Corvette has always been labeled “America’s Sports Car” for the working man. Now it’s way over priced and doesn’t look like anything American about it. I’ll keep my C7 manual transmission. The latest doesn’t always mean the greatest.

Recently took my 2019 FORD GT to a car show. A C8 Z06 parked right next to me (first show thats ever happened) with enough distance between us so people could see both cars profiles etc. My FORD GT got 99% of the attention and eventually won Best of Show out of about 200 cars, some of which were really special. I felt a bit sorry for the C8 guy but thats how it is when you park next to a superior design car like a Ford GT. The C8 does have great luggage capacity.

Im calling total BS on that. I have a neighbor with 2 Ford GT's (1 heavily modified for track days, the other stock). We attend local car shows together and my stock C8 convertible ALWAYS draws far more attention than both of his.

I always wanted a Corvette. That changed with the C7, which was ok, except for the rear end (which I can't stand). Then along came the C8, and my interest in Corvettes went away completely. The C8 is a derivative design, a poor copy of the Acura NSX. Nothing about the interior or exterior appeals to me. If I ever buy a Corvette, it will be a C6 ZR1. Meanwhile, I'm very happy with my 2018 Cadillac CTS-V. I get all of the Corvette's performance, along with luxury and fantastic looks to boot.

Excellent video! We will never track it and it’s capable of more performance than we will ever need. Our 2nd Corvette and the best vehicle this 76yo has ever driven. I guess the horde people paying up to $20,000 over MSRP didn’t know what they were getting, we waited until the dust settled and now you can get them for thousands under MSRP. I first drove one in 2020 and loved it, waited for most of the bugs to get worked out and the price to get back to normal. Well worth the wait.

Some of the haters are over the top and don't know how to articulate themselves, sure, but I assure you it's nowhere close to 100% when speaking in terms of being able to afford it. Half, tops.

I have a 2022 2LT non Z51. I love the car and amazingly with some judicious driving ,not poking along but not burning up the tires I can get 30 to 31 mpg. Two things I don’t like the road noise on some roads is so much that I use my Bose noise cancelling headphones, the other complaint is the led brightness on the row of switches. They are impossible to see in the daylight a lot of the time.

The C8 is by far the very best Corvette ever and an engineering tour de force. I love everything about it except the wall of switches that leaves no arm rest for the passenger. It should provide excellent comfort for both driver and passenger. If the design team could come up with a way to move the buttons to the dash and provide a suitable armrest for the passenger, it would be perfect.

I've had no interest in C3, C4, C5, C6, or C7 Corvettes because they look like a caricature of a sports car, are oversized, and the rear end just looks chopped off. But the C8 first got my interest because of it's performance. Sub 3 seconds 0-60 is impressive. Then I realized how good it looks and decided to buy my first Corvette ever. If anything, my complaint is that the C8 Corvette feels so refined you don't appreciate the power and speed.
