What I love about Candyman that the other films fucked up is the feeling that it truly is "a legend". A story passed down from person to person, each generation adding thru own touch to build on it. With the first film we are merely seeing how part of the legend came to be By making him just a Jason or a Freddy misses the point entirely.
@stefanfilipovits213 жыл бұрын
Well said
@defender22223 жыл бұрын
@@stefanfilipovits21 Its honestly why I am hoping that the 2021 version is going to go the route that the Candyman legend from the first film isn't the true origin of him. That instead Candyman absorbs into himself all these different origins, taking bits and pieces from each retelling and adding them to himself. Much as the 'classic vampire' is in fact just many different tellings of the legend pieced together so too is Candyman. There really was a son of a slave who loved a white woman and died because of it. But there was also a nice man who handed out candy who had a false hand and was brutally killed when he was falsely accused of a crime. And another man killed for being a suspected pedo but was innocent. I'm hoping the new movie is that there is no singular origin for Candyman. He absorbs other legends into himself, much like how Greek Myth did that with Herakles. The hook came from one legends. The coat another. The bees another. So on and so on. A being not of our world that takes from the legends to build itself up
@Japaneseanimeguy3 жыл бұрын

I also always loved how in the original (until the very end anyway), you could keep guessing as to whether he was real or if Helen was simply so wrapped up in the legends herself that it was affecting her grasp on reality. As is the case with the legend itself in-movie, the audience is also speculating just how much of what they're seeing is reliable. Either outcome would have worked, but revealing it is real not only means we get a sweet final scare, but also gives you that final sense of "well yes, it could just be a story...but do you want to risk it?"

Also in The Forbidden the monster is described as being a 7-8 foot tall man like creature covered head to toe in thick red wire like hair and long lanky arms and legs. I believe the original story was about how the British thought about the Irish and Scottish immigrants moving there way back when. I mean thats what the song “this old man” is about, its about how Irish immigrants had to go around selling their knickknacks door to door and most british people would wack them on the head and close the door so the Irish man would then go to the pub and end up rolling home and obviously patty being a term British used for Irish people.

You want the one showing the 1980 movie Alligator, next door. Tony Todd is an awesome actor. He's also awesome in other roles, from playing Worf's brother Kurn in Star Trek, to playing the voice of The Fallen in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Also, thank God they didn't go along with hiring Eddie Murphy. 11:17- Being taught by Amanda Waller? No thanks. Fuck Ethan! 36:47- If this 1999 movie set in Los Angeles is suppose to take place in the future, the sets should look like they were previously used in Blade Runner. This movie looks as 2020 as the movie 2020: Texas Gladiators, minus the shields with huge-ass holes in the middle. 38:59- Yeah, me too. 42:41- Don't Bring Frank Miller into this. The actor who played Candyman is a real trooper, I don't know that anyone could pay me enough to put bees in my mouth.

So has a Candyman sequel script ended up being used in a Hellraiser movie yet?

I met Tony Todd at a screening of Sushi Girl at comic con and he is just the sweetest coolest guy but I was still scared of him and he could tell so he asked whats up and I told him straight out im scared cause Im standing in-front of THE Candy Man he just laughed shook my threw up a shaka and took a picture with me and complemented me on my Rorschach cosplay. If I met him again Id probably offer to buy him a beer or something

With a new candyman movie coming out, can I hope that Clive Barker's Abarat series will eventually get an adaptation?

I would've loved to have seen Tony Todd in a remake of J.D.'s revenge but that time has passed and no one even remembers that great film.

Eddie Murphy wouldn't have ever been right for this role. A good actor in his own right, but Todd brings an energy that is both subtle and regal. His calm demeanor is a huge part of what makes him feel threatening. Eddie flourishes in more bombastic, flashy roles. That said, he was great in Vampire in Brooklyn.

I think the 2nd one was the first one I saw when I was about 16. Then the the other two. First one is still my fave though. Still scares the shit out of me too. I'm actually really excited about the new one coming out.

Every time I watch candy man I’m struck by jealously that you could freaking smoke anywhere back then. She smokes in college, people’s houses, restaurants and even jail. Wth I can’t even smoke in places outside now 😭
