I go over studies on a very common culprit causing a LOT of stomach problems--and increasing stomach cancer risk even if you have no symptoms--that doesn't get talked about enough given how many people have it. Press "show more" to see the study link(s)!

Note: This issue generally doesn't go away on it's own. For many people it is lifelong (if they don't get it treated). Also: Had you heard of this before? Would love to know how much awareness there is out there.

My aunt had the same issues and her GP decided to test her, showing a positive for H. Pylori. She was actually the person who told me to ask for the test after hearing about my similar symptoms. So the conclusion is to request the test, even if the doctor doesn't suggest it. Honestly, the difference it made getting treatment was remarkable. I suffered for a long time. I believe that at the time I was treated, it was relatively rare to be tested, even though the discovery of the bacterium was discovered 10 years prior (23 years ago).

I’ve had H Pylori at 10. Got treated by a good hospital, the best children’s hospital in London, Great Ormond street. I had a gastroscopy and they found it and healed it thankfully. The specialist told me to stay away from extreme spicy foods. Lost 4 pints of blood, had 2 blood transfusions and had to supplement with vitamin D3 and iron after my operations. It was a huge relief recovering from it. I nearly died. Now i try my best to eat clean all the time.

I was diagnosed with H Pylori about 13 years ago after suffering with constant bad heartburn which didn't get better with any other medication. A simple stool test gave a positive result. My GP gave me a two week course of antibiotics and hey presto it disappeared! I was tested again a month later and it's been negative since. I cannot tell you the relief I felt from all the symptoms I had suffered for a number of years.

Very interesting about the animals and dog-human transmission potential. Everytime I come home from being out, I wash my hands. And I take off my shoes before entering the house, and I make everyone else do so, too. I don't care if they think I'm crazy. I'm actually not a germaphobe! But just doing these 2 things can make a huge difference in one's health.

We always do those 2 things too--I agree they likely make a big difference! I think most hygiene-oriented people do too (at least I hope...) so you're definitely not crazy

I have seen some documentaries about H Pylori as I have had some severe stomach issues of my own that was more painful than appendicitis (I have had that as well). My doctor claimed it was IBS and prescribed me something to help with cramps along with instructing me to follow a "Low FODMAP Diet" as researched by the University of Monash in Australia. I took a completely different approach and began researching how to support a healthy microbiome in the gut. I started a regiment of daily probiotics and fiber, along with eating more locally grown greens and fresh produce from gardens (our church has a community garden). Combined with regular exercise to help reduce stress, this combination of things has been a life changer. I have not had an upset stomach in years whereas I used to have issues with my digestion on a weekly basis. Ginger seems to help as well whenever I get a slight touch of nausea. Enjoy your videos, so I thought I would share my story.

I'm 71 and live in New Zealand. I'd heard that H. pylori could be the cause of my pustular rosacea. Last year I asked me doctor if I could be tested. She was very reluctant and said that it's very rare and doubted that I could have it. She rang me a few days later and said "Guess what? Your results came back positive". I had been hospitalised once in the past for gastritis and often got very sharp pains in my stomach when I went too long without food. My rosacea went away very quickly after I’d finished the treatment but I don’t know whether the antibiotics did that or the removal of the virus. I am now occasionally getting sharp pains in my stomach and gut but the rosacea isn’t back. My husband is always complaining of acid reflux and stomach pain so I’m wondering whether he has it. Another symptom he has, that I didn’t, is he gets full very quickly when eating whereas I’m a bottomless pit!!!

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear. Given the treatment typically has a very high success rate, is it possible you're getting reinfected right after treatments? (e.g., family member, dog?)

Great info, here, thanks. Of course, Dr. Berg has mentioned H. pylori many times, but I didn't pay much attention to it because I didn't think it was a problem for me. I don't think I have H.pylori, but it's good to know there is an easy test for it. Is Quest in Canada, or is that a lab stateside?

Sensitivity and specificity of stool-based test is not good enough to trust. Biopsy or breath test are preferred. Most insurance will not cover the stool test bc it is so useless.

I've been having recurring ulcers and/or gastritis for over a year, despite the fact that none of the lifestyle risk factors apply to me. I had a negative test for h. pylori a little less than a year ago. However, I didn't know that a proton pump inhibitor can cause a false negative. It's possible I was taking omeprazole at the time. I'll have to be sure to get re-tested without it. However, the problem is that I often can't sleep without it.
@chrcpaul
@chrcpaul Жыл бұрын
If you tested negative for h pylori but you still have gastritis, you are probably having dysautonomia due to deficiency in vit b1. Taking Benfotiamine form of vit b1, activated b complex and magnesium for a few weeks will stop the gastritis. Stop omeprazole once you don’t need it. Not good for long term use. Check out EOnutrition on KZbin. Elliot Overton discussed how vit b1 resolves many chronic health issues that doctors can’t solve. I’ve been on the journey only to discover that gastritis or acid reflux is a form of dysautonomia. Once the B1 deficiency has been addressed, the symptoms vanished overnight at around a week. I hope this info can guide you towards healing. Namaste.

That's a tough one. I wonder if there's a temporary alternative medication that could relieve some of the symptoms without risking masking the infection?

i think its more the environment and the climate and the way of cooking, eating...etc. lets think about the way us-americans are preparing their food and the way in southeurope. its realy hot there and " hygienics" in the south is different then yours. in the us there is the habbit to keep it very very sterile, clean .
@MichePhD

Interesting, I hadn't thought about that angle. The country effects are thought to be due to practices within that country (like food hygiene), as well as perhaps climate (you may have noticed the low prevalence places are much colder than the high prevalence ones). But there are some genes that can prevent infection so there is a very small possibility that genetics are involved in the country prevalence differences.

i have had ulcers starting when i was 21 (i am 24 now). i have bulimia, so i always assumed i just damaged my stomach mucosa. I think that is true, but now I really am going to go do the stool tests they have been wanting from me at my PCP. H pylori antigen is one of the tests and so I really want this information. Thank you for reminding me about this I have been putting it off!!!

I have some indigestion problems for years and also stomach pain from time to time so maybe h. pylori could be the cause..

Hey Miche , little bit random but would you be able to do a video on the link between dairy and breast cancer . I feel like there’s so much evidence that strongly points to dairy increasing breast cancer risk in populations but yet it gets swept under the carpet due to big dairy 😭 FYI I have a grandmother with recently diagnosed breast cancer who STILL consumes milk and cheeses despite the diagnosis 😭🫠😵‍💫

PCRM (Physicians for Responsible Medicine) are running a campaign against dairy because its linked to breast cancer. Also T. Colin Campbell in the China Study found this link and said dairy was the light switch that turned the cancer on and off.

Unfortunately that will accomplish the opposite--I used to do that. Sometimes I test it out, and the videos titled like you suggest (which I also prefer) get about 1/3 of the views as the video titles like this. I too really wish this weren't the reality of youtube, but because I really want people to know about this stomach issue and hopefully improve their lives, I have to play the game to get the info out there.

At one time I had serious periodontal disease to the point where I was in danger of losing teeth. I started gum irrigation therapy using an antimicrobial agent (CPC) that successfully stopped the progression of the disease. I noticed a side benefit of the irrigation therapy that I did not expect. My nightly acid indigestion issues disappeared completely. I used to take 1-2 pepsid AC tablets a night, and now I rarely need it. Is it possible that the bacteria in my gums was traveling to my stomach via saliva? Is the bacteria associated with periodontal disease similar to H Pylori? Can it cause stomach irritation?

One thing I wonder about, Is it the H. pylori causing the cancer or is it the environment of your body which attracts the H. pylori and actually may be the cause the cancer rather? So H. pylori showing up is maybe not the cause but just a sign of a bad diet?
@MichePhD
@MichePhD Жыл бұрын
You can't "attract" H pylori because it's something that gets passively transmitted, but diet can theoretically make your stomach environment more or less hospitable to colonization. It is very unlikely that bad diet is going to be the third-factor cause of cancer--the mechanism by which H pylori causes cancer is extremely clear, because it literally eats away at your stomach lining which requires high cell turnover/repair which is a known cause of cancer. The question of what diets lead to H pylori infection hasn't been researched much, but some studies have found that putting people on a diet higher in fruits and vegetables along with intuitive eating can improve it, for example: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/11006427/

@@MichePhD Thanks, I'm on a 90% meat diet and plan to stay on it as long as my good health continues. I tried plants for 2 years and I ended up in the hospital so that did not work for me. By the word "attract" I meant more that it encourages the H. pylori to grow and not die off after being ingested. E.g. plants encourage a more alkaline stomach pH while with meat the stomach is more acidic which kills off more bacteria and stops the heartburn :)
