Poison & Wine is a musical snapshot about the dichotomy of love - that while it can be the thing that destroys you, it can also be the very same thing that beckons and builds you. This song was our attempt at being as brutally honest about the dangerous and beautiful process of knowing and being known. (-Joy Williams, The Civil Wars) That's in the description.

"I don't have a choice, but I still choose you." Possibly the deepest and most honest statement about many human relationships. A brilliantly conceived love song, as honest as any I’ve ever heard. The tenderness of the delivery is as willingly vulnerable as the duality of the lyrics are exposed, brave and bold. The plus and minus side of any common battery. At all points in between, lay the both of us, eh. (I go to it often. To play it over and over. Like melting candle wax to hold my eternally broken heart together.)

I love this song it talks about the push and pull of being in love with another person. It's like poison and wine in the relationship because of the ups and downs we go through. Such a beautiful song. Anyway, just a different angle to consider regarding their duo's break-up. True, they have tremendous chemistry when singing. But I don't think the reason behind the break-up is that, er, romantic (a love that must end because they're both married to someone else). Joy's husband is, if I remember correctly, part of their team, as a manager of sorts. So there lies the imbalance. Joy and her husband could have the upper hand when settling on a decision, since both of them are directly involved with the duo. Whereas there's only John to fend for himself. He might have gotten tired of this set-up, that's why he just 'disappeared', which led to their disbandment. *shrugs
