In America, back when that song was written, Sunday mornings were dedicated to being with the family, church, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Everything was placed on the back burner and guys would spend their whole day relaxing with their family, friends, girlfriend, boyfriend, and wives. Guys would just chill with those close to them....

"Easy like Sunday morning" because in the "old days" almost EVERYTHING was closed on Sundays. So there was nothing to do, like the whole world took a break on Sundays.

That is Lionel Ritchie singing. This is my favorite Commodore song. They had many hit songs, Three Times A Lady, Sail On, Just To Be Close To You, and many others. Lionel also had many hits as a solo artist, with hit songs such as Hello, and All Night Long. Great reaction to a great song.

Sunday was considered the Sabbath back then, a day of rest. All of America was off work, all government offices closed, most all other stores and public businesses, and restaurants closed. This was a day of rest and church. An easy day you didn't have to get up early, you'd go to church and spend the rest of the day with family or friends, think on things, especially spiritual things. Sundays had a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT feel to them. Everything was quiet, few if any cars on the road. I miss them!

Great reaction Empress, this was first released in 77 then again in 88. A huge hit at the time, just so easy on the ears. The Sunday morning reference is because after the stress of the week Sunday morning is when most people relax with a slow lazy day, so he likens his character to that feeling. I always did love this song so am really pleased you liked it too. Your hearts on your sleeve again! - keep them coming!

Times change. The average 25-year-old never experienced Michael Jackson. And this song is probably from 1977 or 78. That's the equivalent to the 1920s for an older generation. Plus these songs don't get played on the radio any more. Even a typical 30-year-old or even a 40-year-old does not know the song "Honky Tonk Woman" even exists.
