My theory is that it was named the decimation by the world at the time 10% disappeared, because as we saw it took more than a few days to get the information of all that dusted, but kept the name once it was found out 50% disappeared

This is the current definition and how it is being used here. Decimate also has an outdated historical definition of "kill one in every ten of a group as a punishment for the whole group". This definition dates back to the times where roman legions where commonplace, so the argument that "it actually means 10%" would hold water if we are in ancient rome. We aren't, so it doesn't.

For all we know (I haven't read the Guardians comics), traditional, Earrh-like, stationary trees don't exist on Groot's homeworld and he and others like him are the only plant-like life on it. They're similar to Earth trees, but they're not trees (unless he is in the comics...but I'm not sure the Guardians comics hold much authority in the case if the films, because Rocket is a raccoon-like alien in the books, but might turn out to be an actual raccoon from Earth who was abducted and experimented on in the films, we'll see.
