I always thought it was kind of sad Squirtle and Bulbasaur never evolved. As a kid after playing the games, that kind of made me feel like Ash just wasn't a very good trainer. I never realized they were traumatized by their friend switching up on Ash. 😢

I like it personally (even just as head cannon) Especially with Bulbasaur literally resisting evolution at the bulbasaur evolution gathering. Zolt also mentions he belives it's implied so maybe there's more evidence. I'd be intereated in hearing more about the theory too actully.

The bond between ash and his Pokémon is deep even I think that bulbasuar and squirtle weren’t happy with ash but when saw that pikachu was the same I realised that bulbasuar, squritle and pikachu never wanted to evolve because they wanted to show ash that evolving wasn’t vey important for all Pokémon sometimes they just want to get stronger in the form they feel comfortable in they just need time to think if they want to evolve or not this process will that days, months, or even years this is why some of ash’s Pokémon never evolve

When I first watch the Pokemon series back in 1999 before the beginning of 2000 I though that Ash will be catching more Pokemon as he promise but unfortunely he never made that promise in each episodes while his rival Gary Oak catches more than him. Ash's old rival Gary Oak maybe cocky from the very beginning of Pokemon Series when he first started out as a Pokemon trainer but at least he had achieved something on his journey which Ash has always failed to do and that's catching more Pokémon, train them and evolved them. Plus Gary did keep swapping his Pokemon more unlike Ash who refuse to swapped his Pokemon except on his Unova Journey. Also All his Kanto starter Pokemon haven't fully evolve except for his Charizard, I really don't know why the Japanese writers decided that Ash's Bulbasaur isn't going to evolve in this one episode and why haven't they plan for Ash's Squirtle to evolve either which is stupid. If I was that writer I would have planned to have Bulbasaur and Squirtle to evolve from the beginning and way up to Venasaur and Blastoise then Ash could have something to used in the Pokemon League at the Indigo League Conference along with his Charizard properly trained then he could be in the Top 8 or Top 4. But unfortunely that never happen and the Japanese writer are to blame for this because it's not just the Indigo League Conference but also they could have improve on Ash's personality and skills as a trainer as well as catching more Pokemon like Gary Oak. But at least Ash have improves his skills for many years in the Pokemon Series however there's just two things that Ash will never improve are girls who have a crush on him like Serena and never recognise Team Rocket's disguise who are always after his Pikachu.

Thank you, finally someone said it!!!!!! Also, am I the only one who thinks Ash blows as a character as well as a trainer? Most of his wins are due to sheer luck and plot armour rather than preparation, skill and wits and hardly ever learn from his experiences. Gary Oak, on the other hand, is a great trainer and a much more interesting character!
