Congratulations on this excellent, comprehensive and balanced presentation of a fascinating and intricate case that I wasn't familiar with before. Poor Sarah Scazzi! As a case, it's also highly instructive about the truth of human psychology, contrary to many false beliefs and stereotypes. Among other details, I was disgusted with the crass behavior of that Italian TV station in exploiting the public grief of Sarah's poor mother for the sake of sensationalism, increased viewership, and no doubt advertising revenue. Typical "media" behavior! About the case itself, I have no doubt that the criminologist Roberta Bruzzone was correct, that the real killers were the daughter Sabrina and her mother Cosima. Sabrina's lawyer, Franco Coppi may think otherwise, and although he's paid to defend her, I'm sure he believes in her innocence. All that demonstrates to me is that the man, like many, is a gullible fool too easily taken in by lies and stereotypes. This is true on several grounds. First, as Roberta said, Sabrina is a narcissistic, disordered personality who can lie all too easily and convincingly. Probably the same is true of her mother Cosima, also a domineering and manipulative personality. Personality disorders can run in the family and are often inherited. Second is the stereotype of females as NECESSARILY "innocent," kind," "gentle," "nurturing." and all of that rubbish: the tendency to put all women "on a pedestal" solely because they happen to be female, irrespective of their individual merits--or lack of them! There has always been a tendency for people to do this, which I believe has a biopsychological basis, but we shouldn't have any illusions about women on that score. Women are no different from men in that there are good ones and BAD ones. Many women are indeed angels. Others can be devils! Ironically, it's because Roberta Bruzzone is a woman herself--and also free of mentally crippling male "gallantry" toward women--that she has no illusions about the behavior of some females. No doubt she's seen and experienced the viciousness of some girls' behavior toward one another in high school: the striving for social dominance, the spite over petty jealousies--and probably girls pulling one another's hair out in a fight for rivalry over a boy. Ignoring these realities plays into the stereotype of mythical "female gentleness and innocence." Roberta is no doubt also aware that the narcissistic personality, whether male or female, cannot bear to be put to shame by any competition and has to have its own way at any cost: the essential reason why Sabrina killed her cousin. Sabrina, as "big sister," enjoyed being "looked up to" when Sarah was younger, so they were friends then. But when Sarah grew into a beautiful teenager and started to outshine her, Sabrina couldn't stand it. Third is the flip side of this stereotype: that of the male as "aggressive," even "predatory," which like all such inherent views has been ruthlessly exploited and exaggerated by venomous "feminists" of the man-hating variety into such monstrous slanders as "all men are rapists." Naturally the belief that Michele would rape and murder his own niece, although he was always so loving and nurturing toward her--as MOST uncles are--played right into this stereotype of "men as ruthless predators," making it believable to many. But just as stereotypes of women ignore their bad side, so this stereotype of men ignores their good side: namely, the typical gallantry and protectiveness of most men toward women. Ironically, this is what Franco Coppi is guilty of when he protests the innocence of his client Sabrina in the face of the evidence of her guilt. But many men go further, sacrificing themselves, even their very lives, to protect their womenfolk, and often other women as well. How many men stood on the deck of the Titanic and later drowned while women and children went first? Not all, but it is a "male value." Admittedly Michele went further in allowing not only himself, but his sacred reputation, to be sacrificed to protect his wife and especially his daughter, But some men will do that, taking the blame for what women do wrong, to protect women's reputation at the cost of men's own. In doing so, unfortunately they only perpetuate the myth of "female innocence" and of "male guilt." Fourth, putting these stereotypes together, a related one is of "males as dominant, females as submissive." This is rubbish, and entirely dependent on the personalities of the individuals involved. Some men rule their families with an iron rod. Some women do the same. As Roberta pointed out, it was the mother Cosima who ruled this family. Her husband, who was no doubt always an accommodating man, did as he was told, even to be cast as a rapist and murderer--although fortunately the pathology report showed that Sarah was not sexually assaulted. I can only congratulate the Italian police for seeing through this sham presented to them by the collaboration of an entire unhealthy family, and seeing that justice was done for Sarah in the end.

To inform a mother that her daughters murderer is her own family member on live TV for ratings is absolutely disgusting! Then to ask the mother "would you like to end this interview?," but keep filming for another 3 minutes.....I'm aghast! My heart broke for that mother, losing her only child!

It’d break me and I’d have to lash out (thereby guaranteeing my own downfall). Sucks to say but I am not as strong as most when it comes to containing emotions in these kinds of horrific circumstances.

_Buongiorno,_ Crimey and Crimey fam! 🙋🏻‍♀️🇮🇹🌹💀 What a lovely introduction to the vid. Thank you! ☺ It's such an honour to team up with my favourite crime guy! Being a family orientated nation, the case of poor Sarah Scazzi had Italians gripped. Such a messed up crime! Afterwards, the mayor of Avetrana had to intervene to try and prevent the vast influx of tourists who descended on the little town, causing traffic jams. Many wanted to pose for photographs outside the Misseri/Scazzi homes.. some actually rang the doorbell asking for an autograph! There was even talk of bus tours! Roads were blocked off and it was forbidden to go too near the houses. The mayor called for a halt to the macabre behaviour and pleaded for respect and privacy.. but to this day, locals are still stopped by tourists asking for directions.. Many thanks for your hard work.. we all appreciate you heaps, Crimey.. 🤗 *Ciao a tutti!*

Very sad. My sister felt this way towards me. Told me she prayed everyday I'd get fat and ugly. Eventually we had to go our own way, because she wanted it. I will never forget her words, "I want to disassociate from you". I recall this word "disassociate" seemed so cold like we were business partners. We haven't seen or talked to each other since 1995. I tried in 2018 but she refused. Thankfully my sister wasn't a murderer. Poor Sarah I bet loved her cousin and aunty very much and trusted them with all her heart.

If I could put any kind of good spin on these sad separations ... I'll confess there was someone very close, someone I avoided too much until it was too late ... Because she was so wonderful, and I was easily discouraged and overwhelmed. I felt not only in her shadow, but fried by her charisma. It's on me. Many miles and years later things did gradually improve. I worked on myself. Realized how much I could shine on my own, and did, in my own way ... not her way. There's no comparing any more, that's for sure. She raised me to be that smart at least, unlike this jealous young woman. RIP MOM lol who ALWAYS said When you're dead, you're dead. That's it. ❤️

To me, it is obvious that Michele has been the victim of Cosima and her jealous daughter Sabrina. And they forced him to lie to the police and inculpate himself. In fact, he could not even say how he had killed poor Sarah. A very sordid story plotted by two horrible narcissistic women. Now they can maybe meditate on their crime for many years in prison. I pity Sarah's mother.

I’m inclined to agree with the criminologist: I think they got the culprits. I feel the mother/daughter shouldn’t be permitted the comfort of sharing a cell and interacting with each other. It’s like letting the Menendez brothers bunk up in the same cell - potentially unwise?! Also, I wonder why the uncle “discovered” the phone in the field (and drew attention to them all in the first place)? Did he secretly want his wife and daughter to pay for what they’d done?
@pimpozza
@pimpozza 2 жыл бұрын
This is a very interesting comment, Zoë. We also wondered _WHY_ did Michele say he found the phone?! It really did seem like he couldn't live with himself, knowing what he knew. Then he decided to say he had done it himself.. It appears Cosima was definitely the boss. I could imagine her saying, "You fool! Now YOU can take the blame!" He isn't very good at lying so the whole case turned into something truly chilling and bizarre. Just such a weird and very sad case!

This whole story is so sick! From a kid who'd rather spend most of h her time outside of her home, to the press trying to present her as a wild child, to a jealousy and insecurity so intense that an aunt and cousin killed their cousin and niece, to the police doing a shoddy job, and the oh so very callous news network, there's absolutely not a single ray of light in this story. I believe the jealousy thing might be generational. Cosima was probably very jealous of Sahra's mother too.

The way Sarah's mother was treated by the news media is a travesty. Rest in Peace Sarah. Thank you CR, you did a great job on this very sad story

I believe justice was served..Her diary entries speak volumes as to Sabrina's state of mind..I can't imagine her mother's anguish knowing those she trusted with her child, could brutally murder her and then play to the cameras and to her while she held on to false hope..😩

What an evil family. Sabrina's lawyer said the whole jealousy angle was ridiculous, because Sabrina was always happy to take Sarah along when she was going to meet up with the guy. I bet the only reason the guy would even meet up with Sabrina was if Sarah was with her. Yeah, I believe she was jealous of her.

I knew it the cousin sent those texts so close together 3 minutes apart, and then her phone was turned off like 15-20 minutes later, but she never text her in that time after not hearing from her. That doesn't make sense. If somebody is that eager for you to get back to them as to send back to back text, not get a reply and not text again. I thought that sounded fishy from the beginning.

Thanks for taking time to present this case. In Italy we have so many, mostly unknown outside the country, and I'm glad you are talking about those. If you want few ideas for some next videos, search for the following: Anna Maria Franzoni (killed his son, only few years in jail); Yara Gambirasio (the victim); il mostro di Firenze (Pacciani). However I'd love you to talk about the great Magistrate Giovanni Falcone and his fellow Magistrate Paolo Borsellino, both killed on different occasions, in two horrible explosions perpetrated by the hand of Cosa Nostra (mafia). Both men knew they would have been killed, but they still tried to fight mafia and kept going. These two are just true heroes. Take care, L

They found no DNA of Michele Misseri on Sarah's body, Stacy. It was very decomposed, having been in the well for weeks. Her fingers were practically gone, so no DNA under fingernails could be discovered and they couldn't tell if she had tried to defend herself during the attack. They did discover traces of an unknown person on her phone, so they took DNA swabs of other family members, hoping for more evidence to come to light - but nothing further was discovered.

How heartless that live television show journalist using Sarah’s mother like that is one of the most enraging things about this story. To use a mother who is under the impression that she is going to be on live television to plead for her daughters safe return, just for ratings and while she is being interviewed live, is told by a tv journalist about her daughters death & her own brother-in-law had confessed to murdering her child, was absolutely disgusting! That woman should have gotten to hear about her daughters murder in private. That was just so deplorable

First time seeing your show, very impressed with the comprehensive coverage! I’ve never heard of this tragic case before, & I watch a LOT of true crime. Thanks for bringing this unique case to light. So horrible that this poor girl already had a difficult life, & the ONE set of people who were supposed to have her back & help to give her happiness, selfishly & wickedly murdered her! So shocking. I think justice was done….although I find Micele’s initial confession quite odd. Bizarre that he added sexual assault details, especially about violating the body… when that didn’t happen. Looks like the whole family is jacked up pretty bad! 💔
