Here's my head canon after watching your vid: Julia and her gang knew the ruins were the home base of a mage and waited for him (and his assistant) to be gone before trying to loot it. In the caves, there was no Golem yet, but only the tortured Witcher. That Witcher did end up killing most of them (out of instinct). When the mage (and his assistant) returned from their travels, they discovered the bodies. Learning that the location of his secret base had been comprised, he reasoned that his assistant must have let the location slip and decided it was time to get rid of him. He also knew he would have to find a new location for a secret base. To avoid his assistant learning of that new location and potentially letting *that* slip too, he would have to do the looking after the murdering. So he concoted a plan. All would appear normal. He would continue his reasearch and order a golem as added security. Since the caves were theoretically still going to be in use, they cleaned up the dead bodies - hence no skeletons from Julia's crew. However, on the day of the golem's arrival, the mage executed his plan. First he murdered his assistant, and to avoid arousing the suspicions of the golem delivery person, he tossed the dead body of his assistant into the Drowner pool. After the golem was set up, he killed the delivery guy and then teleported away to start looking for a new home base - no need to clean up the delivery guy's body because he wasn't going to spend much time there anymore. Thus, Geralt stumbled upon the mage's hideout while the mage was away looking for a new secret base location. The mage will eventually return and be *really* pissed off haha

I’ve actually discovered this little storyline myself and so have a few thoughts: 1. The reason the demon Witcher is locked up is that the mage bit off more than he could handle, so he closed shop murdered his assistant and threw his body with the key into the drowners pool. 2. I don’t think the cats are the former treasure hunting team, but I do think the drowners are, because how else would they be there? 3. This is really a stretch, but Irenus sounds similar to Irenicus, the antagonist of Baldur’s Gate II, himself another mage with a tendency towards experimenting on people for mysterious purposes. I’m curious that, if he was cut content, there would have been some homage to BGII; alas, we’ll never know, and I’m going on quite the limb here anyways 😂

It's been a couple of years since I last read the books, but I'm pretty sure there's at least SOME mention of other witcher schools. As well, I'm pretty sure Bonhart had medallions from several, and after Ciri defeats him, she takes a Cat School one. This is off the top of my head, but I think only 2 of the schools were created by the game universe - Viper, and Manticore. Although I might be misremembering all of this.
@Overseer3552 жыл бұрын

In Polish there is a lot more Content by Sapkowski or approved by him, including a Tabletop, Comics and some Sidestorys. The Cat School is one of the main bad guys in that, and later fights with the wolves, till the griffons and some others show up and kill them.
@Alex-tx8lf2 жыл бұрын
@@Overseer355 The school of the crane is not canon to anything, it's fanfiction basically. The only book canon schools are cat, wolf and griffin, with the rest being canon for games only. School of the crane was created by someone else for a fan book, which has nothing to do with the canon universe at all. They were meant to hunt primarily sea monsters years after the events of the books and games, which is bullshit anyway, since in the books it is said that approximately 100 years after the main story, both monsters and witchers are almost extinct.

Found something weird: After slaying the vampire coroner in the Novigrad side quest “Carnal Sins”, I went to complete the Witcher contract “Deadly delights”. After going to the guard offering the reward, he tells you to go see the medic. There I found the medic, a character with the exact same model as the vampire coroner (clothing and all) except he wore a mask. Bare in mind this is after I have just slain him. Also at the end of that contract, if you spare the succubus, she gives you a silver sword named “Aerondight” to give to the guard. It’s the same name as the one from the blood and wine but without the abiility of the actual one.

While watching I was mumbling to myself, "no, there's this other perfectly logical explanation about..." That means the video ignited the need for debate in me, so in my book is a great video about some crazy and not so crazy theories. Thank you! And from the top of my head (and the top of my head is only half reliable), in the books there are just the Wolf, the Cat, and the Griffin school. Coën belongs to the Griffins, everybody else in Kaer Morhen to the Wolfs and... as far as I remember, Bonhart is in possesion of a Cat medallion. Again, thanks for the nice video (as per usual)
@fantasywind39232 жыл бұрын
Yeah it should be noted that Ciri took the Cat medallion from Bonhart, giving Wolf to Geralt (who lost his previous one in a fire that druids burned the bandits in the Tower of the Swallow). Also clearly Geralt in Voice of Reason speaks of sign of the School of the Wolf so other medallions do imply other witcher schools, naturally Season of Storms is rather vague about the cat witchers, mainly establishing their bad reputation as psychopaths, murderers for hire, acting as spies and assassins, even robbing people. These three schools are the only ones in the books, video games invented few new ones and tried to extrapolate or add to the lore in creative way.

When the statue came to live, he named him Golem. He served the jews in the dark medival ages in Prague, and when another pogrom on jews happened, golem slaughtered the attacking mob, and also inocent people, so Jehuda Löw decided to lay him to the rest somewhere under the city, and took out the "šém". So Kiyan, when we meet him in that cave, is possessed by a demon, and we can consider it a canon since the Polish version is the original one. Other versions probably have lost this information in the translation process. Actually, now I'm curious how the other language versions of the game label Kiyan.

Whoah! This is amazing detail, once again this proves the game devs thought about incredibly complex net of interconnected stories, how various people connect through various events even for something as random as treasure hunt quest :), but it does not surprise for in a way this only continues the book tradition, even in the witcher novels there were numerous side and minor characters who have an interesting unforseen effect upon events later, or simply met their ends (example Vera Loewenhaupt, the woman merchant from Blood of Elves beginning, her cart is later found in Baptism of Fire and used by Zoltan and his crew :), various people are affected in this big net of events, choices having consequences and the like and this is definitely interesting). I'd really like to point out the reference of the golem and the seller of it, Jehuda Löw. The reference points out to the old Bohemian story of a Prague rabbi, Jehuda Löw. As per the story, which is very popular in the Czech republic, the rabbi Jehuda Löw had constructed of clay and dirt the deterrent and guardian sculpture of the Golem. Its purpose was to guard the Jewish getthos from the Christian pogroms. If one was to activate the golem, he had to put the Shem into the golems mouth. The golem would then only obey that one person. Rabbi Löw was once headed to the Synagogue, but in a hurry, he forgot to remove the Shem from the golem, thus leaving it alive with no orders to follow. The confused golem would smash and destroy all the furniture and ceramics which would get into his way. In order for the Golem's menace to stop, rabbi Löw had to interrupt his service during the Sabbath. This whole second part is mentioned in the "warranty" section of the letter.

Letalis, I have an idea for an addition to a Blood and Wine Details Vid. I just stumbled upon this while slowly approaching the tourney grounds in Toussaint when Geralt first gets there. I’ve played through this many times and never noticed this. An exchange between two knights, Bors and Percival, that actually opens up the lac celavy quest for Geralt since he is interested by what he overhears.

Witcher 3 is still by far the best rpg ever made , its unrivalled with the level of detail in the game from conversations too random npcs etc etc , I just waiting for the next gen upgrade to play through it again

I recently found my way back into the cellar where the mages hid out during Now or Never. Even thought the quest is done, Moritz Diefenthel is still stuck down there somehow. Seems he really didn't want to follow Triss...

On the very same day, cdpr announces a new monster card sir scratch-a-lot, xLetalis makes a video about the crazy cat lady... and my own cat is being unusually mild and easy going. It can't be all coincidence! I think we humans got bamboozled.

Btw a little easteregg at 8:39 - Jehuda Löw is a real historical person tied to Prague that created "Golem". (there is a cool story behind it, I recommend reading it ;-) )

The Way of the Witcher expansion for Gwent standalone and the expansion for the Talsorian ttrpg a Witchers Journal says that the Cat witchers who later formed the Dyn Marv caravan spend some time in Ebbing with Aen Seidhe groups who offered them refuge as they escaped Stygga. The leader of the Cats at the time Gezras of Leyda was a half-elf

I guess if the cats were originally people transformed by a spell, that would explain why they are triggering the potestaquisitor.

Did you notice the Easter egg on 8.39? There's a little reference to the old Prague legend of Rabi Löwe, the creator of "the" Golem.

Sadly not well familiar with Prague legends :(

The pentagram where the Witcher is reminds me of a pentacle which is commonly found with alchemical symbols at each point in circles similar to the one shown in the video. They're usually the same symbols used in Witcher signs. Maybe it's actually a pentacle referencing that the dark figure is a Witcher.
