This take on Eric Draven’s story lacks the humanity of the OG. In 1994, you got the sense Draven was a legit cool guy with hip GF who both suffered a tragically brutal fate. This innate humanity shined through in Draven’s interactions with Sgt. Albrecht and Shelly, especially in how he detoured from his vengeance to detox Shelly’s mom. When he was taking folks out, you got the sense it represented a total about-face for the character. In this 2024 version, you don’t get that. The guy just feels like an addict who fell into being an immortal on a mission. He’s nowhere near as compelling a character as the OG take. In a perfect world, this would’ve been an extremely belated straight to video sequel.

We actually could have had a Black version of the crow, in the year 2000 the rapper DMX was in discussions with producers about a fourth sequel called "The Crow: Lazarus" that would have been about a rapper who chose to leave the music scene for the love of a woman and was killed during a drive by shooting then comes back to get revenge on the gang who were responsible. And the production had been slated to start shooting in November of that same year, but the project ultimately never came to be.

'You know not to go in to the theater' is basically my sentiments as the OG Crow films from 1994 is one of my favorite films. I understand Hollywood wanting to cash in on the 30th anniversary of the OG film but I agree with Alex Proyas who said they definitely should've respected Brandon Lee's legacy and left it alone. Of course, Hollywood is just greedy and went for the cash grab, got a director who takes beloved IP and whitewashes it (Ghost In The Shell) so I knew it wasn't going to be good. If they got a better director with more vision like Guillermo Del Toro then it probably would've been awesome. Also, I feel like due to the subject matter of the graphic novel I think it would've been a great limited series like The Sandman or Watchmen. Great reviews and humor as always but I knew I'd catch this one on Max or whatever streamer it'll be on eventually and not get pissed off knowing it wasn't going to be what I wanted just like Korey said.

I actually liked what they did with the rehab! Yes I understand that it looks like a prison but looking at prison and rehab from a gothic nihilistic perspective; what difference does it make?

The Crow from 1994 is a masterpiece. He’s one of my favorite characters in the comic book lore. I haven’t seen the TV sequels. Brandon Lee is top list as the Crow with all due respect for Bill Skarsgård, who is awesome as Pennywise. Oz being in the Double Toasted studio is epic!🤣🤣🤣🤣

City of angels was a theatrical release and the last one too before the other two went straight to DVD. You would be better off reading the comic and novelization that they did for the movie. All of the potential and ideas the producers took out of the movie are in those books instead.

@@TheEnigmaticBM39 Thanks my friend! I still don’t understand why producers won’t take elements from the comics and adapt them in film. If i was a director making a comic book movie, I would do that to make the fans happy. It doesn’t seem that hard.😂

Sometimes it being worried about if people can connect or simply not having faith in the audience. Proyas didn't which is kind of sad. He didn't think the flashbacks and bits they had in of Sarah would be enough. I think he'd have done well with more and I wouldn't mind more of their relationship with Sarah but you can see what likely was anyways. More isn't always better. We don't need to know their plans or the weekend jobs. We need to know they were good people and were met with a brutality nobody should have to experience. The end sold. If you get more maybe you question stuff.

The only Crow reboot I’ll accept is WCW’s Sting.

I wrote a furious rant about this elsewhere earlier today and I'm going to append a much calmer and truncated version of it here. Eric Draven absolutely *could* feel pain. If he couldn't feel pain, Tin Tin wouldn't have even been able to slow him down in his first fight and he wouldn't have said "Ow" while Funboy was shooting him. What we actually see during the course of the OG Crow is Eric gradually recognizing that physical pain doesn't actually mean anything to him anymore, so while he still feels it, he recognizes he can ignore it. Basically, by the time of the shootout massacre at Top Dollar's meeting, Eric didn't feel the need to even acknowledge pain anymore because he knows the damage his body is responding to will be instantly healed. I'll also reiterate my preference for, if anyone decides to create yet another The Crow film, that they use the comic The Crow: Flesh + Blood as their source material and treat it like a horror movie rather than an action film - bend towards Sam Raimi's treatment of The Scarlet Witch in Doctor Strange: In the Multiverse of Madness. Abandon the premise that The Crow intrinsically makes the bearer of the Crow's gift invulnerable and have the main character basically a walking zombie hunting their targets down (which is more accurate to the original comic series), where their body does get damaged and they have to keep taping, stitching and/or stapling themselves together to keep going till by the end they're a rotting corpse.
