The below plate will probably handle what it is meant for: Which is number 1: someone molotov fireballing under it. Number 2: someones home made pipebomb aka small IED, thrown under or driven over. 3: criminals have managed to get their hands on stolen military hand grenades. It's light armored patrol vehicle. I was a gunner in Afghanistan for 9 months. I was a CROWS gunner (MRAP) for the last half. I was in ASVs also and I drove them both too. I am all too familiar with these types of vehicles. The doors are air controlled on the rear of MRAPS and once you push that button you need to be clear of the door motion. You can operate them manually too but they are heavy. We would drift MRAPS through the deepest mud, accelerating sideways through the ruts and you couldn’t stop them. Off-roading in an ASV is actually even better. We would stagger them, CROWS MRAP out front, ASV, then MRAP then ASV. 11B

Or door in about 30 seconds. So surprising that the removable fasteners are on the outside of the vehicle? To work, this vehicle must escape and get out of harms way so it does not dwell in a risk area.

Something tells me it takes a lot more than those nuts on the outside to remove them. Especially considering how small they are vs. how heavy/ massive that window is. Ditto for the hinges. We get purpose built quirky and strange vehicles reviewed, and Doug gets to have fun doing not only that, but also getting a look at a vehicle he does not get to see often. I especially appreciated the backstory as to how this armoring company got ahold of this, and how silly the whole thing seems as to the reason why Land Cruisers are no longer in the US.

everything in solid black, or, "how to stand out against everything you might encounter" This is at least partially meant to look menacing, not provide maximum protection in the widest variety of circumstances (which might not be a bad thing, depending on the customer base)
@paulog88132 жыл бұрын
Fun fact. If you try to off road an armored vehicle, because of the torsion of the body, the glasses wil delaminate, since essentially the are multiple layers of policarbonate and glass
@bosstowndynamics54882 жыл бұрын
Fun fact. The 70 Series is a body on frame vehicle so the body won't be subject to significant torsional forces offroad.
@paulog88132 жыл бұрын
@@bosstowndynamics5488 I leave in Rio de Janeiro, and unfortunately there are plenty of Armored cars here. I myself have a Range Rover Sport Armored for daily use. I’ve seen twice armored Land Rover Defender delaminate the windshield and even brake fé drivers side window, which was open when it happened.
@bosstowndynamics54882 жыл бұрын
@@paulog8813 The Range Rovers aren't body on frame, the new Defender isn't either and the old one was infamous for poor quality body panel fitment. None of that speaks to torsion of a body fitted to the much stronger and better regarded 70 series chassis.
@paulog88132 жыл бұрын
@@bosstowndynamics5488 I Know I own an Old Defender Td5, A disco 1 V8 both body on frame and a RRS (Unibody). The 2 cases I mentioned were old Defenders 110, with of course Body on frame.
@bosstowndynamics54882 жыл бұрын
@@paulog8813 They're still Land Rovers though, and as I said at the very least the Defender had infamously bad body fitment, so torsional forces through its body off-road wouldn't imply that the same thing would happen to the much tougher and better regarded 70 series.

The best part of the Cuda is that it's a Land Cruiser underneath which means you know it will be ultra reliable and not breakdown. An armored Range Rover will breakdown,.

An armoured range rover has full drivetrain protection. A bomb can go off underneath and it will still drive.

@@KangoV The electrical system or engine will fail by itself, that's how it goes with unarmored Land Rovers. All the armor in the world won't save you from that.

@bosstowndynamics54882 жыл бұрын
This is available from the nominal manufacturer in this configuration, even if it's based on a Toyota it's directly sold by a second stage manufacturer and accurately represents what anyone would get if they bought their own. When Doug talks about avoiding modified cars he means things like aftermarket turbos that would change the way the vehicle drives *compared to other copies of the same vehicle*.
