this is the only explanation of resentment I've ever heard that matches what I feel. I resent being insulted. I have to work through the insult to relieve the resentment. hurting others does nothing to resolve the insult I carry un met.

Great question. See my chapter on anger in Spiritual Wisdom for a Happier Life. Anger always has an original source that is deeper than the anger itself. It is coming from somewhere, it always does.
