Anything from NewWave UK era during this period turned to gold ⚜ The Cure music are all about the shadow world, the British dreams of land from hope and opportunity imaginings, the irrationality of love, and the depths of existential despair, all of which receive an airing during this sprawling epic song xx A nice and varied album. Pop songs, gothic melodrama, psychadelic moments and alternative rock - all in a nice mix._Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me_ is arguably the best place to sample their successes and flaws--2 LPs worth of leader Robert Smith's sprawling musical world. It was released in the summer of 1987 when CDs began encroaching on LPs as the medium of choice for audiophiles. Elektra. Imagery is important for Robert Smith in order to contribute to the mood of the song. Consistent with the title, nearly half the songs contain references to a kiss. He can be whimsical, like on the haunting “Catch” (“Yes I sometimes even tried to catch her/But never even caught her name”). Considering that other Cure albums end with songs titled “Sinking” (_The Head on the Door_), “Untitled” (_Disintegration_), and “End” (_Wish_), the last number on _Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me_, “Fight”, is uncharacteristically positive. Resisting the urge to give in under pressure, Smith implores the listener (and possibly himself) to constantly fight the powers that be. The Fun Facts: Yes, the lips and eyes on the album jacket are those of Robert Smith, photographed by Parched Art. The album title was taken from the 1968 film “Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me!” about a married woman pursuing an affair with her abusive husband’s best friend, where secrets and lies cause her personal and romantic life to collapse around her.A lot of Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me feels like gothic rock writing rearranged, and it's similar to what Siouxsie was doing in the late '80s that way. Sounds from pop, folk, raga, synth funk, etc. are used on a lot of songs to flash out what essentially is still the same sort of songwriting that The Cure had already been good at - "The Kiss," "Torture," "If Only Tonight We Could Sleep," and "The Snakepit" are prime examples. But they also switch through styles throughout the album, with some songs being genuinely more upbeat (albeit in a sort of unusual, hyper way) or falling closer to jangly alt. rock.
