My 747 story. Our first trip to Oahu was a working vacation, my wife worked while I was on vacation. The real estate agent made a big deal about the condo we rented being on the 9th hole of the Turtle Bay golf course, I could care less about golf, I just wanted to check the surf and eat all the local food I could. One night going for a midnight snack I came across a 747, I caught him in a plastic cup and put him in the garbage disposal turned it on and let it run. When I turned it off the Bugga came crawling out walking across the counter like he had to much to drink. I caught him again, walked out to the 9th hole and set him free. I figured if he lived through that he deserved to live. Your show is great keep up the good work.

Andy, Thankyou so much for doing this ... I realize you probably will never see this, but I just have to say that after being married to a Big Island girl for more than 36 years now ... I kinda feel like a "Local Haole" ... and thankyou for being patient with folks from Wisconsin, Haole's like me ... and helping us to understand the actual love people from Hawaii have, and what a gift Hawaii ... it's people ... and it's culture ... are to the nation and to the world. I was blessed to be called Kauilani from my wife's grandmother, as she assessed me during our only meeting. I hope folks will come to appreciate Hawaii and it's people, as I have over the years. Thankyou again for your patience with the younger folks. Please continue to impart your knowledge, and experience, to all of us ... in our incredible journey together. Uncle Doug

First saw a 747 when I moved to Maui in '74... in my little apartment in Kihei. My first night there I went into the kitchen to get a glass of water and out of the corner of my eye I saw these huge 4 inch feelers twitching on the top of a cabinet. I thought it was some freaky space alien they were so big. I remember screaming, "HOLY CRAP!" or something similar and dashing for the front door where I had left my slipper. Must have been local instinct kicking in. Next thing I knew, the damn thing was dive bombing me, flying right at me with its 8 inch wingspan... I screamed and dove for cover. It landed on a lamp and I ended up whacking it with a slipper, almost breaking the lamp and shade in the process. I didn't weigh it after I killed it, but I bet the buggah weighed 5 pounds. OK, slight exaggeration there, but it was huge. I joked with the landlord the next day that he should cut my rent in half because for a short period of time I had a roommate almost as big as I was. He just smiled and said, "welcome to Hawaii."

I work with our first responders as well as just when see da tourists doing stupid kine stuff such as...just cuz u see local kids rushing shore breaks at Sandy's, no mean u going try swim. how's about cliff/rock jumping Waimea Bay, spitting caves, ice ponds in the mountains? Go to the shoreline to watch big waves then get swept out. Go hiking & get off trail, go bushwhacking, ignore flash flood warnings, bust up & disrespect trail. au'we! NO OPALA! cig butts is opala. u go some place, leave it better than u found it. always offer to help clean up, do something after being hosted. everyone pitch in, even da keiki. here's a good one, one day swimming Hanauma Bay when civil defense sirens went off (all locals know day & time every month that siren blast) I bust laughing cuz everyone/tourists froze & was ready for dig. lol what a sight! one more...no go picking flowers, fruits, anything without asking permission. just as with spam, no say bad kine stuff about our food, especially poi. Hey Andy! A little mainland history on that "poke" joke of yours. So back in the Wild West, starting just after the Civil War, a "poke" wasn't just a finger boop. It often doubled as an innuendo, as in you pay a nice lady and she takes into the back room for a 'sweet ride'. So hearing you make that poke joke "a poke for 10$" had me choking.😂😂
