Long time biker, and one of the things that "Boiled my piss" for many years was that guidance to not pursue bikes. Frankly I practically celebrated when that was changed. Of course I want officers to make smart judgement calls about these pursuits, but if some pillock has decided to nick off on somebody's pride and joy, or has grabbed Dorris' bag from her shoulder and is bombing through town of a scooter etc, I really don't care if they end up on the floor. The judgement call should be nothing more than "Will this put the general public at increased risk?" If the answer is no, then have at it! It was terrible that criminals were basically given a free pass for choosing a vulnerable getaway vehicle.

@damionlee76582 жыл бұрын
@@hausmaster9801 Totally agree that we could do with more bike cops out there. I would really like to see nationwide, a sub-division of traffic out there a bit like we have seen in the past in Australia. Unmarked, riding through traffic looking for driving offenses. Particularly for mobile phone/other distractions. I used to commute along a dual carriageway, and regularly my morning run would be filtering through stop-start, and slow moving traffic. I passed people using their mobiles to play games/watch videos as well as messaging, reading books, writing in journals, a few people reading newspapers (including one guy reading the financial times, fully opened whilst his car was in motion!) Also regularly saw bus drivers reading newspapers while driving through town, and was on a bus ploughing along a dual carriageway at 60 with the driver reading a newspaper. That twat had the audacity to deny it when I confronted him, while he was sitting there with the paper open in his hands! (All such incidents were reported to the bus company.) So yeah, get some police out there filtering with camera equipment to catch those people who don't care about anybody's safety.

Our area in Hull has a big problem of often stolen off-road bikes and quad bikes being ridden dangerously around and on public green spaces. 2yrs ago a 9yr old boy was hit by one and had to have his leg amputated to save his life. Since then our local police have created a unit of 2 officers mounted on off road bikes to aggressively pursue offenders where police cars can't. I love seeing them out on the hunt and our community feels safer. They do an ace job!

Exactly Jessica.... Poor 9 year kid lost a leg....So sad for the poor little fella. This is what is at stake here. Please see my comment above/below.... You have my sympathy. This is the problem in the UK: There should be a blanket directive from Whitehall stating policy in these situations across the nation as a whole. NOT! Leading to inappropriate application of national law. It Does Not Work.

For a Black Rat, he seems to have missed his vocation as a response officer with an outlook like that. On my TD attachment during my probation, A Class 2 was driving and a Class 1 was in the radio operator's seat. A motorbike went passed at speed on the footpath. The TD car pulled over (because a Class 1 is allegedly the Obergefreiter of driving police cars and a 2 is a mere Gefreiter) so, the drivers changed places, and set off again for about a minute before again stopping, changing back over, and the Class 1 to inform IR, Information Room, that the 'pursuit' was a total loss. After grub, they ignored an Urgent Assistance because "they were a level above all that." Nice to see a thief taker in a snow drop hat! Loved the bit where he laughed at the bike thieves injuries, "Sorry, its not funny..... but it is!" :salut: Good Boy!

It’s midnight, I’m speeding down Leeds road 50 60 plus. No biggie. Pull up. Ask the guy at the petrol station for milk, he runs of to get it. Pay, then turn around and I have 3 cop cars behind me. 2 cars, one van. Apparently I speed past them all and they turned around to catch me. Asked my I was speeding. This is 100%. I told them (my Canadian accent helped). I was confused as in Canada there are no set speed limits after 12 midnight. (Not true but I was guessing on him not knowing that). Well he did believe me and gave me real dressing down, told me to smarten up and drove off.

Some people think I am a little harsh but the law should be changed where when they are caught with a stolen bike or a car putting innocent lives at risk they should be given 10 years and made to serve every single day of that 10 years. If they do it again then 15 years and every other time after that add 5 years. People who also drink drive should receive the same sentences. Speeding motorists maybe get a warning if it`s a couple of mile over as it`s so easy to do while watching all other traffic, reading road signs, checking mirrors etc... and generally being aware of all dangers if possible it`s easy to go over the limit but if people are doing say 60 in a 30 zone then 1 year in prison serve every day and after that then in increments of 1 year, so a person speeds like that 6 times then it`s 6 years in prison. Don`t get me started on rapists, child molesters and murderers because the fact is I am a nice person and if I make my true feelings known about those vermin lower than pond scum then people will think I am some sort of Hitler . . . . . Anyway rant over.

2022 and Britain is getting more and more un-civilised. When the police started using their vehicles as deadly weapons, that told me Britain is finished. The police are meant to be more intelligent and civilised. Lowering themselves to their level, and risking killing someone is just adding more danger. Non pursuit rules were brought in as there were way too many riders and members of the public being killed in pursuits. With helicopters available, they could be used to safely follow, then arrest with groumd units.

Really. The amount of scandals and officers being sacked and ending up in court is rediculous. The British bobby was somebody to be proud of not long ago. Over the last few years they have been rarely seen when needed, thats why a lot of criminals have got so brazen. It seems to me we are going the same was as the US police, more militarized and using way too much excessive force. When did life become so cheap and expendable in the UK? Hate and anger, are ruining this beautiful country. Once the authoroties become uncivilized and people view others as vermin, we're on a slippery slope. I'm sure the Nazis viewed their people as vermin. Look how that ended.
@BenPearson19652 жыл бұрын
How are we uncivilised, the fact is there’s only 1 helicopters and that covers all Yorkshire(North South East and West), up to Manchester, Humber. We live in a world where asking criminals to stop doesn’t work. They won’t be hugged, stop if their spoken to nicely, and will make off and leave you at the side of the road if they hit you. Even if they hit your child. Sometimes we need to be firm!
