Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight still remains one of the strongest superhero movies to date and overall features a lot of great stuff, from the Joker to the physicality of the practical action. But one aspect to learn from it especially is how to begin a movie -- more specifically, how it handles the "day in the life" section its beginning consists of. And since we've had some Filmento haters argue in my Kristen Stewart Underwater 2020 movie video that The Dark Knight doesn't have a day in the life section, let's dig deeper into the film's opening to see why that argument is dangerously false -- what that term means and how to do it effectively. Here's how to begin a movie.

The Dark Knight (2008)
Christopher Nolan steps back into the director's chair for this sequel to Batman Begins, which finds the titular superhero coming face to face with his greatest nemesis -- the dreaded Joker. Christian Bale returns to the role of Batman, Maggie Gyllenhaal takes over the role of Rachel Dawes (played by Katie Holmes in Batman Begins), and Brokeback Mountain star Heath Ledger dons the ghoulishly gleeful Joker makeup previously worn by Jack Nicholson and Underwater how to fail at alien kristen stewart how to begin a movie the dark knight everything wrong with watch full movie online free 4k anatomy of a failure Underwater 2020 movie how to build the perfect villain avengers endgame how to build the perfect end Tenet Matt reeves batman joker laugh compilation joker how to make evil likable best joker portrayal inception the joker laugh mark hamill the joker best moments Cesar Romero. Just as it begins to appear as if Batman, Lt. James Gordon (Gary Oldman), and District Attorney Harvey Dent (Aaron Eckhart) are making headway in their tireless battle against the criminal element, a maniacal, wisecracking fiend plunges the streets of Gotham City into complete chaos.
-
Underwater (2020)
An underwater research team is highly involved in a drilling operation to look for oil at the bottom of the Mariana Trench. As an earthquake destroys their laboratory in the depths of the ocean, the team must now work together on a plan to insure their safety. However, the crew soon discovers that there is something dangerous in their midst. Directed by William Eubank and written by Brian Duffield and Adam Cozad.
-
Inception (2010)
Visionary filmmaker Christopher Nolan (Memento, The Dark Knight) writes and directs this psychological sci-fi action film about a thief who possesses the power to enter into the dreams of others. Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) doesn't steal things, he steals ideas. By projecting himself deep into the subconscious of his Tenet John David Washington Tenet release date is tenet secretly an inception sequel tenet inception targets, he can glean information that even the best computer hackers can't get to. In the world of corporate espionage, Cobb is the ultimate weapon. But even weapons have their weakness, and when Cobb loses everything, he's forced to embark on one final mission in a desperate quest for redemption. This time, Cobb won't be harvesting an idea, but sowing one. Should he and his team of specialists succeed, they will have discovered a new frontier in the art of psychic espionage. They've planned everything to perfection, and they have all the tools to get the job done. Their mission is complicated, however, by the sudden appearance of a malevolent foe that seems to know exactly what they're up to, and precisely how to stop them.

Honestly I find you one of the most level headed film critics on KZbin. I feel most critics dont look deep enough in the politics, story, characters and just make a 2 dimensional argument why its bad/good. Rather you break down the elements and reasons why these characters or the story doesn't/does work. Your way of explaining is set in a good balance of great examples, point outs and various methods used to make films. Continue what you do!

Idk if you live under a rock but inception too is known for being a movie still controversial a decade after its release, just look at how many videos there are on it. TDK is just on a whole other spectrum though cause there’s so much to break down and comprehend due to the messages, villian, hero etc etc. (inception is also considered to be Nolan’s Magnum Opus as well)

I genuinely don't understand why Filmento is getting so much hate, I've watched almost every video he's made, and in every single one he has made justifiable praise or criticism for whatever he might be talking about. I'm constantly nodding my head in agreement at least once or twice in every video. As somebody who has spent most of their early life learning about film and TV and studying it. He makes valid, strong arguments. While I might not agree with every single detail I acknowledge that Filmento has his own opinion. And that's fine. I know that this is the internet and people get pissy about everything. But any haters reading this. Fuck yourself and give the guy some space. He doesn't deserve hate from you just because you disagree with what he said in a video. If you don't like his content, then go, don't watch him again. Just be the better man/woman and leave him be. He undoubtedly puts a lot of effort into his videos as do most content creators on youtube. So respect that, and if you don't like him. Leave. @Black Ninja He's not saying he disagrees with particular points in this video, only in general. As do I. For example, I still think a "A day in the life of" sequence is not strictly neccesary to be at the very beginning of a film/story. I believe it can just as well come at a later date with the same effect. The only genuine thing that matters in any good story is execution and result. If something is satisfactory (in the sense that it is entertaining, not in the sense that it is "adequate"), then that something fits in the story. An ADITL sequence might just work later on as well. One may also argue that ADITL acts as a "baseline" and nothing more. That is to say, it gives us the context we need. As such, different things might provide that context, without neccesary being strung together in a single comprehensible sequence. That said, a single ADITL sequence is an effective tool, and putting it at the beginning of your film/story is effective, if done properly. I just don't believe it is strictly neccesary for every imaginable story. For classic hero's journey/action blockbuster films, it does work, though.

A Day in Life is just a reference frame to contrast with. It can be anything to establish the norm. I thought that's self explanatory. Did Underwater showed us a reference frame to contrast with? Now that's the bigger question..
@lkf8799
@lkf8799 4 жыл бұрын
That's usually to create contrast and conflict between characters and push the plot which most movies do and do well and which I appreciate for the setups and payoffs in the story. Underwater didn't do that because all the characters cooperated which is very unusual for a disaster/monster movie but it didn't really hurt the story as much as you would expect - Mostly because there were some good performances and the director made some great artistic choices - I think Filmento was too harsh on Underwater but I'm a big fan of this channel - Great content and insight into movie making and very entertaining. His point is valid - There was no day in the life to help you easily connect to the charcter/set expectations. I saw a video recently on a character not having an arc which breaks story-telling rules and that's very hard to do successfully, too. Think it was on the Just Write KZbin channel.

As much as you can learn a lot from failure, I really enjoyed this as a more positive explanation of when something is done right. I went back to watch the Underwater video on the back of this, despite having not seen the film. The section on how the protagonists should really be responsible for the inciting incident kind of made me think of The Thing, with the initial release of the Thing being already set in motion by the Norwegian Camp. I guess there the difference is the film is about much more than survival, focusing on mistrust and paranoia, with the inciting incident from our protagonists point of view being to shoot the Norwegian instead of trying to figure out what their intentions were.

Day in the life sequences are good because seeing the status quo can show or at least foreshadow a character's mindset, including values and flaws, and gives a much more intimate lens through which we see the rest of the story, because we have a better understanding of what they're fighting for. They're also good opportunities for relatability/save the cat type stuff.
