I’ve been to uti, and worked in a shop for about a week before deciding to go out on my own. I had a customer who needed tie rods and a wheel bearing cost of parts came out to about 140 and I quoted her at 4 hours for all the work at 25 an hour. I ended up taking about 6 hours due to a very stubborn bearing, but still only charged for 4. Then it was 65 to take the car to an alignment shop to get an alignment done. (My brother works at a suspension shop so I got a huge discount) she told me this was all way too much and she would just get it done herself, payed for my parts and labor and then left. I later found out she went to MY BROTHERS SHOP to have the alignment adjusted (175 for that.) And was then told she needed new ball joints as well she did not. She ended up paying 480 for ball joints before going home. Sometimes you just need to listen to what a mechanic says, and avoid chain shops, and stealerships.

David Gagliotti I believe they’re trying to point out how some companies, like “24/7 Locksmith” in this video, use workers who have little training and knowledge. The guy called the lock a “commercial lock”, drilled it for no reason, left the lock like that and still would’ve been payed significantly more than many other businesses. The “J&J” guy was the knowledgeable one, he showed up, picked the lock in a minute, charged a fair price and didn’t cause property damage in the process.
@davidallegro33956 жыл бұрын
@@syn_0 many companies well hire an apprentice and if they get busy and send them on their own maybe the guy just didn't feel like picking it maybe he left his tools at home the point is is they were attacking many companies and only one charged over $1,000 the rest of them weren't charging the Munch and the original one that the woman was complaining about didn't charge that much at all like $187 so honestly if you look at it and that perspective and I'm been in the field and the AC field in the locksmith field in the apartment industry it's pretty much the going rate as I sent $1,000 was a lot but it depends on which locks and the commercial lock if it's a six pin lock which that was a six pin lock is considered in the industry a commercial lock 5 pins as a residential

I was actually a practicing locksmith in that area for about 7 years. Drilling was ALWAYS the very last resort. 95% of the time, I was in within 5 min, but occasionally, I just couldn't get in. I would switch between entry methods (rake picking, single pin picking, pick gun, bump key), I would try different doors. I pretty much always got in eventually without drilling. I definitely charged under the industry standard, starting at as low as $25 for jobs within a 5 min drive of my shop if I got in under 10 seconds to as high as $45 for local jobs. I scaled my travel price on how far I had to go, so some went up to $75-80. Anyway, I used to consult and send people over to J and J if they needed an odd-ball key I didn't have/couldn't get for a reasonable price or time frame. I don't remember exactly how but they got caught and paid the price. Pretty sure they were manually making keys on the spot. I remember one time I locked my keys in the truck, hanging in the ignition. This was an older GM truck, so it still had separate door and ignition keys. Since the door key was hanging and visible, he went to the passenger side of the truck and peered in. I heard him read of a list of 4 or 5 numbers. Something like 1, 1, 3, 5, 2... He grabs a blank, takes the cutter and begins cutting the notches into the key. Each number corresponded to the depth of the cut. He got it first try. It was pretty fuckin cool to watch at 15 yrs old.

A lot of the time what is quoted over the phone or on the website is THE bare minimum id take before the customer was about to cancel, if not you just have to up sell them and explain the higher charge. Honestly $180 to $300 is RIDICULOUS for a house lockout. I always had them sign a receipt before starting so if they didn’t pay up I had there signature agreeing to the price. I was a former locksmith so give this a read, this is first hand experiences I'm about to say I work for a company called Pop-A-Lock. Very reputable company and legitimate business and locksmiths. I only did car lockouts, no residential (house) or commercial (business) lockouts. My area was Columbia, SC and for car lockouts, within our radius was $45..for residential/commercial lockouts was around $75 if I remember correctly. If ANYONE cannot give you a straight price over the phone, don't go with the locksmith. Make sure the company has good reviews online. I work for Pop-A-Lock when I was 20 years old for about a year; they gave me decent training and ALL of the tools I need and even gave me a booklet with step by step instructions and getting into cars. Again, if there is no set price over the phone, call someone else... If there anyone texting you about your lockout situation, don't text back. Also not all prices will be the same for all companies..obviously some prices will probably fluctuate about $10-$20. Hope this helps some of you!
@sheeplebarn3336 жыл бұрын
they gave you a book with instructions ? - wow you are a real pro. pop a lock is a franchise btw, in my city their online quote states between $40- $200. right from that I can tell you they will say it starts at aroud $40 and then hit you with $200 after making you wait in a parking lot for 2 hours when they said it would be 20 minutes. a nice prank would be to call 2 or 3 different locksmiths and tell them you are locked out of your car and give them your neighbors address and automobile make.
@RejectedSpiritX6 жыл бұрын
Sheeple Barn and for someone who was in the roadside assistance business, there is a reason why pop a lock was first to be listed. Rarely did I have a price fluctuation and they frequently arrived earlier than expected. Hell, even when I needed it, pop a lock said 45 minutes and arrived in less than 30. Stuck to their prices. When I didn’t have roadside coverage it cost me only 35 for a lock out

That was years ago and I didn't sleep that night because I couldn't remember if I had installed all the outdoor locks ? So I ended up getting out of bed at 2 30 in the morning just to go check and that's when I realized the big mistake ! It's funny now but back then it cost me a lot of time to change them to the correct way ! All 109 of them ! Needless to say , that is a 24 day I will never forget ! Kwik set ? Just use any kind of key that will fit in the entry way and tap on it until the lock pops ! It's called a bump key that can be purchased online ? They are made for every door lock made ! Check Google search for bump keys

During the day, normal business hours. Residential/automotive lock outs are about $100(maybe lil more for mileage). They should spend at least 10-15 min picking before moving on to a different method. Drilling/destructive entry should be the last resort. If you're locked out in the middle of the night. Shits gonna be $150-300. Car transponder keys cost $200+ to cut. Maybe you can find someone to do it for $150, but never less than that. Dealerships will charge you $300+ I hope that gives you all a better idea.

let me give you some advice having been a member of a locksmith family. research before you get into a bad situation. only go with a locksmith that has a physical store. Don't ever deal with someone that operates out of a vehicle. this business is very cut throat and these guys live by their wits jipping people. if you know a building contractor ask who he uses and get the business card and let the smith know who your friend is and his rep is on the line. I live in reno and only deal with a locksmith who owns a shop and does business with the casinos. he really good, his employees will make a key and then go out to your car and personally make certain the key works. call a casino and ask who does the locks, lie to the locksmith and tell him you work for the casino (hint)

This Titan lock that was drilled by the locksmith is made by Kwikset, a well known manufacturer of residential locksets. It is a 6 pin lock. . Most residential locksets have 5 pins. A 6 pin lock is more difficult to pick but can be done. Any lock with a keyway can be picked.

How dare you insult the great name - it is Medeco. Also, to pick a first gen, biaxle or m3 series medeco lock requires the ability to move and feel the rotation of the individual pins, quite a bit of finesse. xD cheers (btw, good luck drilling one - half moon front plates and usually 5-7 hardened pins)

thank you for your comment. I agree 100% it's not bad when you look at it in English pounds it's around the price that we pay as registered locksmiths and although you can get in the house and five seconds what you are paying for is the years of training and the thousands of pounds worth of tools to be able to walk up to anyone of 1000 Locks and go. I had my house rekeyed when I purchased it. I called a local number I found on a website. It directed me to a middle eastern operator who asked what state I was in. Seemed fishy, but I needed it done. The middle eastern guy that came out said he would put Kwikset locks in at a cost of $75 each set. I agreed because I had 2 doors and thought $150 was reasonable. What I got was a bill for $300 and knockoff brand locks. I asked him about the money and he said I had knob locks AND deadbolts. 4 locks. I thought a 'set' was the entire door. He said no, give me $300 and I only take cash. I said I only have $200 cash on me, and he asked what valuables I had in the house to make up for it. I told him to take the $200 before I call the cops. He said something rude in Arabic and left.

$15 or $25 less than $100 was standard industry pricing 9 or 10 years ago. Today around $125 to $165 is normal for busy business day, and closer to $200 for after-hours emergency service calls on residential and commercial lockouts. But it is all highly dependent on the region.
