What defines these genres? Is it the beat or the lyrics? Today’s Gospel music is clearly defined by its lyrics and not the actual named genre. So what’s the difference nowadays? What was controversial then (like The Clark Sisters, BeBe and CeCe Winans) is considered mainstream today. What matters most is your individual and collective relationship with Christ in Spirit and in Truth because “He is the same yesterday, today and forever.” Music will evolve but the Word of GOD never changes. @jidowu6019singing gospel music is not preaching. Furthermore, the Bible says not to muzzle the ox that treads out the corn. If a preacher raises an offering at a service it is not a sin for that preacher to partake in the offering. There is absolutely no way to do gospel ministry for free in America. Everything costs. There are ministries who try to take this route and quickly find out it’s impossible to do so. They end up begging for charity or they come to their senses and do what’s necessary. There’s a cost to make Bibles and get them to people. It becomes sinful when the real gospel is forsaken for the prosperity gospel which is heartily centered around money. The gospel should always be about Jesus and not money. This is where a lot of charismatics and prosperity preachers go wrong.

I just wanted to share a different perspective on the topic of charging for gospel music works and performances. It's actually quite interesting to consider whether it aligns with biblical principles. In the Bible, there is a verse that hard work should be rewarded in 1 Timothy 5:18 "The laborer deserves his wages." That implies that they who put in a lot of effort, time, energy and skill into their work should be compensated. Gospel artist have a talent, like any other professionals, and dedicate a significant amount of time and resources to their craft. Charging for their music and performances can help support their livelihood and continue their ministry. I have personally been very touched by some of the songs Kirk has produced. His first 3 albums have ministered to me during some dark times. Music moves the soul- this we know! ❤ At the same time, I think it IS important for gospel artists to approach their work with humility and a focus on serving God rather than solely focusing on making money. Finding a balance between meeting financial needs and spreading their message, which is the gospel 🙂

That's the money talking.

"If they wanted to be rich so bad they could just do regular music" This is true, but if they did they wouldn't be as big as they are and may not be able to "make a living" singing. I am sure many of them know this. So it's either be at the top singing "gospel" or run the risk of being considered mediocre. Think about, focusing on their voices, would you even be interested in listening to them if they weren't "praising" THE MOST HIGH. This is not to say they can't carry a tune, but line them up with secular artists and many of them fall short. To be honest, I've felt the Spirit of THE LORD in songs one would not consider gospel. One in particular is a song by Day26 titled, "If It Wasn't For You." From the first time I heard that song, I thought it could be a "gospel" song because I think about GOD'S goodness and what my life could be if it wasn't for HIM, every time I listen to it. Nevertheless, THE MOST HIGH tells us to look at the fruit the tree produces. Also, many will cry LORD did I not and he is going to say depart from me you worker of iniquity.

I lot of gospel music will often have incorrect scriptures said so that it rhymes in the lyrics. And often, they're using old hit songs of R&B, so you'll be jamming before you even hear the lyrics. What's bad is that many young folk don't know any hymns of old. Some don't even like them when those songs paved the way for most of the songs you hear. The late Donald Vailes in a workshop told me that "if there's no message, it's just a mess". Something I've express to every choir I've worked with, and years later, I see the truth in what he said.

One thing I realized as a child growing up primarily in the 80s is this: once most black churches stop doing long meter hymns gospel music no longer belonged to the church. I think that’s when I started to notice the commercialization of the music to the point that it was difficult at times to tell the difference readily between secular music and gospel music.

Thank you! I’m tired of these broke Christians hating on other Christians trying to make a living to survive. Making money from concerts isn’t wrong. Especially if you donate part of your earnings to charity or something or simply use them to support your family. It’s like they want these people to just sing for free and go broke. Christianity, in modern times at least, is a joke and the word has been tampered with too many times. Plus the modern Christian music scene is just recycled mediocre garbage. All the songs have the same beats, rhythms, and melodies. And it’s not even fun and now it’s not better than secular music. We can’t have nothing good in this world dude. All I do is believe in Yahushua(Jesus) and that’s it. I try to follow what he says to do and pray. I will make a living from my artistic talents and I don’t care who criticizes. Sure we can read his word, but the word alone falls short. His Spirit is what matters. Sorry for the long paragraph lol. I’m passionate about these topics. Have a blessed day :)

And then y’all would be complaining about Gospel artists not operating in excellence! Y’all are the same people who pay $500+ to see your favorite secular artists but complain about paying for a gospel concert. Most of that $ ain’t even going to the artist; they got to pay for the venue, the LIghts, and all the staff that make the event possible.

Most people think that the word Antichrist means against, it does not! It means counterfeit. Most people who believe in the Bible know that Catholicism is a Roman pagan religion what they don't understand is that "Christianity" came from that root of Roman Catholicism Christianity is part the TARES that the Messiah warned us about. People will not come to understand this because of the indoctrination. They would much rather hold on to their religion and traditions than to come to the knowledge of the truth!!!! The harvest is coming! The Bible tells us that the TARES get burned up first, then the wheat is gathered into the barn! And this goes against religion and tradition but is 100% biblical!

I think people need to understand that the music industry is an unregulated enterprise. There is no formula of success in it. Some songs hit big and some don't. Its unfortunate for the gospel artist that want to make a living off of their art. The safer option would be coming to grips with the fact that it cannot be done without compromise. Good music is hard to make and requires a high levels of skill and talent sometimes. Now that streaming services are here and offer $10 a month to listen to any song that was ever made, artist have a hard time making money to where they gotta take any opportunity they can get. It's sad the lack of understanding people have. People who are the most talented are often hurting inside. Anything to do with the arts is tricky when it comes to monetization, because of the listeners and viewers who look at things too subjectively. For an independent gospel artist, there is little to no return on the money they invest to put out good music. Only for it to be pirated and sold at the lowest price available. The people who control the wealth of the industry often make these artist sell away themselves in exchange for a chance to live half decent! If you sum of Kirk Franklins networth and his age, he would on average be making $250,000 a year since the day he started putting out music in his 20s. That number fluctuates as music becomes more easily available and your supporters instead of buying cds they stream it, and the artist makes next to nothing. There needs to be a solution to where those who are in it for real and want to give God the glory, are supported and can remain independent of music lables!

To really serve God it means we got to take up our cross daily. Christ was very rich in heaven but for our sake he became poor. Problem is many want their reward and riches now, they can't wait for heaven. It is possible to take a normal ordinary every day Job, and still use your talent for God. some times when you perform people might even bless you with an offering. remember Christ heal many and did not charge any of them. Elijah the prophet was used by God to bring about the healing of Naaman the captain of the Syrian army and there was not cost for the service.
@yongsta2108 ай бұрын
@@victor-hn1bh imagine your job tells you, "we might bless you with some money for working for us." Imagine you are your own business and you do work for someone who says they might pay you. We are not talking about blessings and offerings for the sake of it. This is simply a dollar exchange for value and work. You are conflating a lot of things here. Yes It's possible to work a normal job and use you talents for God. It's even more possible that life easily gets in the way of people's passions. You hear it all the time. This isn't about wanting a reward and riches. It's about being able to sustain yourself with your work. Your reward for working at your job is you get paid to sustain yourself. It's the same with anything else. Music cost money to make and you can't depend on people to possibly bless you. If that's the case, Christians shouldn't go into any kinda business or do business with each other if services are expected to be free.
@yongsta2107 ай бұрын
@@victor-hn1bh many people just wanna live half decent. Can you rely on a job that will pay you sometimes depending on how they feel? Making music becomes a job when a person decides to make it their career. You cannot tell them to rely on possible donations from people when people barely wanna pay for the art to begin with. Crafting music takes hours and hours. Who is really gonna have that time after working 8 hrs? Where is the time for family and friends? How much money is one person gonna spend in studio and for equipment? Or should those services be free if everyone participating is a Christian? Making music and healing are two completely different things. You cannot conflate the two. Healing is a divine gift only given by God. Making music is a skill that can be cultivated without Him. We gotta hold ourselves (Christians) accountable for the state some of these artists are in. We don't support the artist who are in it for real.

But who is hiring them and allowing them to get record deals ?
@inyourkey8 ай бұрын
I can not say that I totally agree with this . There is no problem with anyone who has a job to try to make more money. Whether it’s by working overtime, getting a promotion, working at getting a bonus, leaving one job for another company that will pay more, or leaving that place for a better career, we all applaud it and proclaim that God is blessing them into bigger or better. Yes, on can sing in church for the glory of God. The same can be done in a large venue that is NOT a typical place of worship. All of these artists came from humble beginnings. God blessed them to move up and actually get paid for their singing, playing or whatever it is they do. As they become more blessed, more people want to see them. The average church will never be able to hold the thousands of people wanting to hear them, see them in their element. I can not believe you don’t know this about the industry and only focus on how much money they made but venues cost, musicians cost, promoters cost, ect. Do you feel that the artist pay for this out of pocket so that people can come and hear them? They work a regular job and get a regular wage and know they a get thousands of people to come see them and they have to pay for it? It will never happen. It may take more than that persons yearly salary to pay for a venue. But God blesses. We charge for family reunions, we charge for banquets and celebrations, even in the church. So why is it wrong for them to charge for a performance at a venue? I hear all you’re saying and can agree with a lot but this view generalizes everything and every artist. Guess what? When you sing in church it IS a performance also. Call it what you want. But when God blessed you to move to a higher level and you do not move it would be like slapping God in the face. All of us come from the humble beginnings. Most Pastors start as ministers with no church. God blesses and they get a store front, blesses and gets a building, blesses and moves into a bigger church, blesses and now has to build a meg church to satisfy the following. Is that wrong? You seem to say there is no element of worship at these performances. I believe there is. However, it is true that people come to see these artist perform the songs they hear via media. So, are these people really coming to worship? Can’t blame the artist. But in so many performances there is recognition of God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost in some way. Tell me you are absolute that people do not surrender their lives to Christ at these events. Like I said, this is way too generalized.

I found your video here after looking for a Gospel song, which was “I will call upon the Lord”; BECAUSE I was reading the words of Zechariah’s prophesy - especially Luke 1: 68 to 71. It reminded me of a song-hymn! One of the artists was pictured on your video, Donnie McClurkin, was singing it. ‘I will call upon the Lord’ in the tune I remember and I thought it was just embellished and repeated BUT the choir in the background sang the rest of it. So much Gospel music came directly from the Bible. 🎵’I will call upon the Lord, for He is worthy to be praised, so shall I be saved from my enemies! The Lord liveth and blessed be my Rock and may the God of our Salvation be exalted…’ 🎶. Thank you, Keep warning us and exalting our Saviour Jesus Christ the Lord‼️🕎♥️✝️ His precious blood SAVED us, not one of us is without sin, but Jesus led the perfect life then died for our sins, and to accept Him individually INTO our life

What's the difference between gospel music and Christian music?
@miguelonkeys-musicfortheso52216 ай бұрын
Thanks for pointing out that there is a distinction between gospel music and sacred music (or Christian as you name it).
@miguelonkeys-musicfortheso52216 ай бұрын
@@khanyafaba1417 In a nutshell, gospel music focuses on the aesthetics of a musical presentation - harmonies, high-pitched vocals, complex chord progressions, and artists' charisma. Sacred music focuses primarily on the essence of the gospel, and seeks to provide musical expressions best suited to conveying the sentiments of each stage. So, if one should follow the journey of a Christian and all experiences connected with growth, one would find Christian/ sacred music appropriate to each experience or stage. For instance, let's look at stage one: an individual hears the Gospel for the first time and decides to surrender his or her life to Jesus Christ. We could easily nominate Amazing Grace to encapsulate that experience; but what version? Other stages of growth will include repentance, contrition, soul-searching, or submission. After these experiences, there will be joy, thankfulness, praise, or celebration; and one could easily say "Aha! let's insert 'gospel music' here". And this would probably be ok, but only as long as Christ and His Gospel remain the central focus.

I am so tired of hearing this debate. There is nothing wrong with a Christian artist, touring the world and making money off of the music God gave them. There’s nothing wrong with wealth. Now, if you want to argue about certain stars, taking that wealth and doing sinful things, that’s one thing, but God wants for each and every one of us to have, highest abundance in life. We don’t have to be broke, have to struggle, to be close to God. When Kirk Franklin hosts a concert, that is not you going to church. That is you as a Christian paying to hear him perform his music, just as you would go to any other artist concert. To be honest, his net worth of 8.5 million is not even that much And is surprisingly low for how long he’s been around. The type of things he’s accomplished. This shows he isn’t out there, scraping for Brand deals and promos as secular artists do. Great video but this topic and discussion is so asinine.
