Right but if these apps disappeared tomorrow because they don’t pay a decent wage(or frankly even the gas money it costs to deliver in some cases) then customers(you) would be out there claiming the striking dashers are greedy scumbags. Company changes gears and stays out the spotlight, you get your victim points, and the driver is still out of a job

Service is badly overpriced, service is very inconsistent and poor, top of all that, the workers aren't even paid well at all? It certainly makes one wonder how delivery apps even got successful in the first place.

@ quite simple really, they sold you slavery as convenience and you bought it. Once they had you used to waiting at your door for your food like a lab rat of course they jacked up the price.. and why should they pay me $5 to deliver something when 2 million other drivers will do it for $4 meanwhile they’re charging you $10 delivery fee but as I stated earlier… YOURE USED TO IT you’ll keep paying

As a former DoorDasher I will never understand most of the people who use it. The food will never be hot, usually it’s lukewarm at best, it tastes worst and it’s absurdly expensive. And you can find such a good variety of frozen foods in most grocery stores. I love to keep some Korean dumplings in the freezer for this reason. The easiest and quickest soup is just boiling pasta (anyone can manage this much) with a handfull of frozen veggies with any random spices you feel like adding that day. Takes less time than going though ordering process and waiting for the delivery, then warming up the food cuz it's cold and sad.

Cooking a frozen meal is easy yes, but it requires the effort to actually get up and follow the instructions and do the steps required. I know someone might assume that’s so little effort, but for someone with limited or no energy it’s possible they cannot be bothered or motivated to do those steps. My favorite sushi restaurant's rating on Google Maps went wayyy down as soon as they agreed to deliver via DoorDash. some insight from south east asia here: we have a similar service, Grab, which not only does food delivery but tons of other stuff. food delivery wise, it's usually a one-order basis, so they go to pick up your order and deliver only that order before they can pick up another one. we can tip either as it's delivering or after delivery, and most importantly, we get a lot of coupons and vouchers that end up making the delivery fee 0 or even have the total amount (plus delivery) lower than the actual total, but the drivers all have a fixed rate per order so it doesn't hurt the amount the drivers earn. we can pay for express delivery (rate varies with traffic and weather) or, if we don't mind waiting, we get a way cheaper deliver fee if we choose a saver option. there's a countdown estimate in the app, and if the delivery goes beyond the estimated time (minimum 10 minutes over), we get a compensation voucher. I'm kind of shocked at how delivery apps are across the pond because I'm so used to grab's services

As someone who did doordash and also dash orders for me sometimes, i think there should be an option where the customer can choose if they don't mind being a multi pick up OR if they want to be the ONLY pickup for that dash. The amount of times I actually dashed food and it was ICE COLD simply due to the dasher picking up and dropping off 3 orders at a time...

A big part of the issue is that a lot of the time, the food has to wait a long time for a driver to come pick it up, so it's cold before it even starts heading you way. There's no viable solution for that, since you have to put up the delivery as soon as you get it (if you even have a say in the matter) so the customer doesn't wait too long, but that also means you need to make it NOW so the driver who's barely turning a profit doesn't need to wait for the food. I used to work at a restaurant that used one of the very early food delivery services (~15 years ago) and those orders were always my least favorite, because someone, if not everyone, involved will be mad at you at some point.

Yes I would feel SO BAD when I got orders stacked 2 or 3 at a time. I tried not to take those, but if you’re too picky you don’t work. My supermarket also offers frozen meals that are things like steamed fish and vegetables and rice. It's genuinely wholesome food. Plus, many restaurants offer food that are high in salt and fat, because that's what makes it a popular restaurant item. Lastly, it's pointless and also oddly cruel to shame disabled people who are either eating a tv dinner, or nothing or something like a bag of chips. When things are consistently bad, always blame the company. They have a level of control. If they paid the drivers $80 an hour, and told them to make sure the order is perfect, and arrives quickly, they'd do so. $80 an hour is unrealistic, but as a company it's up to them to find what is satisfactory in order to provide good service. At the moment, they pay nothing, and have no control, so they take no responsibility.. They are useless.

There’s no real vetting or anything that you get as a driver, so I assume those charges go straight to the app/business. And, I have made plenty of mistakes, mostly because they don’t set you up with anything, and you have to figure it out yourself. But managing peoples food is a lot harder than it seems. That stress wasn’t worth the little pay. There’s lots of people who do it illegally (uninsured), as well. Someone who Dashed illegally hit my car, and he had to pay for it. Also an important thing to note: apps like Doordash would only need to add a teeny tiny fee to keep up with new regulations; they added these massive fees to try to get the laws repealed. You see similar things when there's a gas/carbon tax: the actual base price stays the same, but they jack up the price for consumers to trick consumers into hating the gov regulations. However, i really enjoy PACKING the deliveries since it's methodical and im fast and accurate. I have to do my own system to make sure none of the food is wrong and that people take the right orders, and that they take both the food and drink (im primarily in charge of the drinks and handing it over). we've had orders that have taken me 2 mins to pack the drinks, and everyone on food 15 mins to pack the food before. that's frustrating for all involved. but i have to double check the code on the delivery to make sure it's the right one, especially because if anyone gets it WRONG, there's pretty much nothing the customer can do (which sucks) sorry for the ramble, i just like packing up the delivery drinks and wanted to contribute

Having driven for DoorDash, it’s an all over loss for everyone. So like, let’s say you order a normal meal, with a drink - it comes to let’s say 12$, and you tip 25% so a 3$ tip on top of it. Then you add the 7$ small order delivery fee, then you add the 7$ DELIVERY fee, now your 12$ order is 29$ - and what’s even funnier is, let’s say the restaurant is 4-5 miles away. That order, to a DoorDasher would be considered a loss. Now your 29$ 12$ meal will sit and become cold. Now you have an illegal immigrant who takes all orders get your food - now you’re at the gamble of - are they gonna tamper the food? Are they gonna steal the food? Are they gonna intentionally misread instructions? Ok now from the drivers side. We get 2$ base no matter what distance the order is, so let’s say the same person ordered from a 5 mile distance restaurant in the middle of no where, so the store is around 6-8 miles away from you, the number you see is 5$ for 6-8 miles, mathematically that order makes no sense to deliver, as for at minimal 1$ per mile is considered breaking even or barely profiting

In Aus I paid 40 dollars for a cool new vegan Asian resto to find out it was a ghost kitchen operating out of a noodle box franchise as well as having a dumpling ghost kitchen that if I changed some items on the menue and picked it up could have saved 14 😅

a couple of our favorite local spots have told me that if i call the order in they’ll give me a discount over using a mobile delivery app. since listening to them i’ve noticed our orders have been taken care of to an extra degree and they usually throw in something for free. the price versus the app is negligible too. i hate talking on the phone but honestly it’s old school all the way for me

Fuck the service fee but Doordash does have really decent refunds. Dont even need to talk to a person. Never had an issue with it and I had a small chunk of time I kept getting messed up items and they refunded me everytime with no questions asked.

I have never used a delivery app for food. Thankfully I am able bodied enough to go out and pick up food in my car. The fact that its super expensive is crazy

I stopped in Salt Lake City, Utah 3 weeks ago when driving to Portland for a rest. Imagine my surprise finding what I thought would be a local restaurant called… Burger SL,UT. Turned out to be a virtual brand and when I looked at the addresses it didn’t even seem like it was consistently sold by the same brands.

The only thing that makes delivery apps worth it is when you get a coupon good enough to pay for all the fees + tip. But I gave up playing that game once covid ended. No idea if they even do promotions that make it worth it anymore

I used to get DoorDash coupons for 50% off two orders and things like that. Now I rarely get any and when I do, it’s more like 15% or 20% off

I remember when restaurants hired their own delivery drivers.Why cant we just go back to that. I don't eat out or use the apps, so I don't have a horse in this race, but I do remember back on the day... pre app. Everything.

I never used these stupid apps and never will. I don’t trust some random person from an app to deliver anything on their time. If I’m not willing to pick it up or their website doesn’t offer delivery, I’m not ordering it. Especially if they are going to cry if they don’t get a $10 minimum tip

the delivery apps were definitely more popular during the pandemic, and spilled over to after it ended. However, like a lot of things from those years, it’s starting to become less popular as people realize how expensive it is…

I ordered from a food delivery app once and immediately regretted it. I know so many people that order food multiple times a week and I’m like?? That’s easily $200 per month
@Ella-g2m

More than that, it's at least $50 each time, if they do it twice a week that's $400 a month.

I live in Manhattan, so in theory the orders should arrive quickly and relatively hot/fresh. Most of the deliveries are coming from less than a mile away. Many even closer. However, Uber Eats just kept getting worse and worse. Lots of mistakes with orders, missing items, lots of extra charges, etc.etc. I was doing a couple of orders per week for a while, but now I'd literally only use Uber Eats in an absolute emergency. Service too expensive and quality just not good enough.

💯 same. I used to use them a handful of times per week. Given what's happened to them now, I'll never use them again. Doesn't seem like a reasonable long-term business solution.

Ooops I've been a heavy delivery app user, especially before I got a car, so I feel called out. It's getting pricey in and of itself, but most delivery apps do offer a pickup option that is usually much cheaper than delivery. You don't have to tip with it, either. I've been trying to use that more, now that I have a car.

You're probably still paying an inflated price. You should consider looking up where you want to order from on an app (if Google doesn't do the trick for you), then going to the restaurants website for a menu (which is also likely larger than the one on the delivery app) and then ordering online if they do online orders or (I know, I know, I desperately don't want to either, but it gets a bit easier the more often you do it) call the restaurant to place your order.
@muffin7320
@muffin7320 13 күн бұрын
@@Narangarath That's true, the owner of one place I ordered from even gave me his card and told me himself to just call instead of ordering online, next time. lol It seems they don't like taking orders from these delivery apps very much, either. To be honest, the reason I use them is out of convenience, like Ed mentioned. Also because I like that it allows me to remain more anonymous when ordering. Maybe it's weird and doesn't make much sense, but I end up thinking that if I avoid ordering on-site I have less of a chance of getting my order messed up, getting bad service, etc. It seems almost every time I order on-site I get completely ignored and have to go out of my way to get my order taken or finished. I'm not saying I haven't had bad service with delivery apps (Two or three times now I've had drivers deliver to the completely wrong door), but at least with pickup I feel some greater kind of damage control. idk

"the $5 regulatory response fee is used to help cover doordashes increased operating costs" basically it helps the ceos and owners not have to take a pay cut. it does not help the real doordash workers make more money.
