Oh my god! I was just talking to my mom about this girl making her own 'clean' make up and thinking of selling it!? She was talking about how she didn't understand why make up had to have all these 'chemicals' in them. Like, girl... THAT'S A PRESERVATIVE, IT'LL MOLD WITHOUT IT!!! IT'S CALLED SHELF LIFE. It was ironic too cause she said she was sick of 'green washing', companies making 'green' versions of their products instead of just making all their products 'green' which IS an actually issue with the commercialization of environmental consciousness but she failed to recognize that her own belief that 'chemicals' = bad is a symptom of the same 'green washing'.

I don’t like green washing-a lot of those “clean” brands have much shorter shelf life because they don’t have preservatives in them. Preservatives in our food are not good, but because make up is man made-you do need them-otherwise your eyeshadow palette will start growing mold in six months. It also needs to be labeled tested for safety before it’s sold. I say we leave makeup formulation to the chemists.

The fact that there's always a chance of hitting a vein or nerve when getting aesthetic injections makes this even worse. There's still a slim chance the injections could do irreparable damage to your face even when you're getting them from an experienced professional. I'm sure those chances are much bigger for people doing it at home, on themselves, untrained, without official medical equipment. Annnnd they most likely aren't prepared if it all goes wrong 😮‍💨

Ignoring the fact that a lot of products do list how much vitamin C they have, is this man telling me he knows exactly how much vitamin C is in every single orange peel he zests?? Plus plus too much of a good thing is too much. High levels of L ascorbic acid will irritate your skin and destroy your skin barrier, even a 10% concentration is too much for most people. There is a reason why skincare has the percentage of vitamn C on the labels, and this is why. And there are other forms of vitamin C that are much more stable, less irritating and can be suspended in a water-based solution that absorbs much better, while L ascorbic acid needs to be suspended in oil-based solution to not go bad in 3 seconds.

I don’t mind giving questionable advice to the KZbin algorithm, but for humans with actual earlobes… don’t go to Claire’s to get your ears pierced if you’ve got access to a piercing/tattoo parlor. The machines they use cause a lot more trauma to the earlobe than is really necessary, and they’re not always properly sanitized. She also makes sure to try each recipe (unless it's so bonkers it's a health hazard) and shows off how the original uploader probably faked their results by showing evidence of jump cuts or even what they had to do to get their final product. i heard air and injecting. the horror. I used to work with hydraulic fluid (not the same as hyaluronic acid, in fact two very different things) but you learn just how bad it is to have anything injected into you in the wrong place. the injecting into a blood vessel would be horrible and the worst part is it will just feel like a little bee sting so you wont know how bad the damage is until it's too late.

My skincare consists of coconut oil as makeup remover (I have dry skin and don’t have any breakouts from it) it works better than any cleansing balm I’ve ever tried. And a gentle foaming cleanser and. Moisturizer with spf. If you’re using anything more than this you’re stripping your skin and exposing it to extra chemicals You don’t need.

Aloe is genuinely one of the only natural beauty things that I find actually works. Most other things are just for fun for me. Idk why I always forget I have an aloe plant. I swear if I remembered it more often my skin would be a different beast. I've been doing a daily aloe mask since friday and every day I can see a significant difference in my dry skin

11:38 can we also talk about how there is no emulsifier? oil and water don't mix so why add water which introduces moisture for bacteria to thrive in?? Oil by itself is fine for removing makeup, but they need an emulsifier so it actually washes off the face when introducing water (they make oil-based cleansers that remove makeup and have an emulsifier for that reason)

A KZbinr I once liked shifted gears a few years ago and was trying to live a simple and minimalist life where she lived off of the land. I have no issue with that. I did have an issue with her making homemade skincare and haircare goop and never mentioning any warnings about the risks. At that point I had become a licensed esthetician and my friend was a licensed aesthetician (yes, there's a difference), and we both politely brought up the risks. Our comments got deleted. Other viewers started saying that they tried her recipes and ended up with allergic reactions and burns, and some commented on the rapid mold growth, and they were ignored. She now has two young children, and I really hope she isn't using her DIY concoctions on them.

The other day I saw a TT from a lady suggesting you keep avocados in water in the fridge to keep them fresh longer. Many people, a microbiologist included, told her it wasn't safe because it can cause bacteria like Listeria to seep through the skin into the fruit. Instead of acknowledging the risk, she responded by posting a video of her pouring a glass of raw milk. 🙃

I used to work in a plastic surgery office, also offering injections and everything under the sun, and I will never understand how people think doing any of it is a good idea 😅 the brochures the patients get about the risks, facts and side-effects are like a horror movie script. No, thank you. People should rather try therapy first to fix the root of their problems before moving on to their looks. Still not safe but much, much safer.

I bought some of those hollow needles and cheap peircings and went to town. No infections or anything. HOWEVER, when my cousin asked me to do hers too like a year and a half later, i adamantly refused. I said "i did it but barely the right way. I don't feel comfortable doing it again. I should've went to a professional so you should too." No way i was risking it lol

If you aren't allergic - coconut oil is a great way to remove eye make up. It's very gentle on sensitive skin, it's very versatile for the home and it has a lengthy shelf life. As long as you follow up with a soap based cleanser, it wont leave you super oily. I'll grab a small glass jar of organic virgin coconut oil and use it for baking, makeup removal, hair mask or put some in the bath as a moisturizer

I make two diy beauty products for myself. The first is hair gel from flax seeds. It only has a 4 day shelf life, so I keep it in 2 oz squirt bottles in the freezer and defrost in the fridge. It has to stay in the fridge when not in use. It's the best hair gel I've ever used and doesn't build up and make my roots greasy like other gels do or weigh my curls down. The second is a whipped tallow for my body and face. It absorbs into my skin quickly and leaves it feeling soft. It doesnt smell pretty though, because I will not use e.o. on my skin. I will go buy anything else I think i need which isn't much. All rhis ither stuff is scary.
