For the past couple of days I have been seeing comments under this video asking Why is my Video in Urdu? (This comment is in English so everyone can understand) 1. Because, the people who speak punjabi are not the issue. This message is more important for the Punjabi speakers who no longer speak punjabi. 2. And secondly I mentioned in the video, I myself have not been taught Punjabi as a child, but it's never too late to learn. 3. This channel only has videos in Urdu (ft. english) and that's how it will remain. 4. Its important to remember that each language has its own place for me personally Urdu, English and Punjabi all form a key part of my identity. No language is bad. If you are a patriotic Pakistani, you should not have made this video. This is at a time when Pakistan is going instability, and there is growing animosity against Punjabis not from Urdu-speaking people but from Pashtuns, Baloch and Kashmiris. Essentially, you have become an asset for Indians who wish to sow seeds of discontent amount various ethnic and linguistic groups in Pakistan in order to divide Pakistan. They are having a field day with your video. Urdu is the essential glue which holds Pakistan together. Why would you want to weaken the bonds of our nation? Punjabi, in eastern Punjab will live till eternity because Sikh scriptures are all written in Gurmukhi which was developed by Guru Angad Sahib ji, the 2nd guru of the Sikhs. Literal Punjabi is so sweet and graceful compared to some othe languages and that, since Sikhs have adopted Punjabi it is being defamed thru conspiracy which will fail eventually.

No it will not because the Gurmukhi script for Punjabi will survive but the Guru Granth sahib is not in Punjabi it is in a variety of languages including Punjabi. In Indian Punjab the Hindu Population have abandoned it. In Chandigarh the Capital Hindi is the most spoken language. Punjabi Ethnicities are becoming an minority in Punjab we are already a minority in all of our Indian Punjabi cities Punjabis are now a minority. Our villages are rapidly depopulating due to international migration. Amongst Sikhs yes Punjabi will survive longer but English will replace it eventually.

@Nin-zg5uw The British are the ones that imposed Naksh script on the Sindhis as they were familiar with that script and they had a preference for Hindustani as the language of governance and Nastaliq as the script for British India. Khudabadi or Devdehn is ancestral script of the Sindh and Punjab, modern day Gurmukhi is an adaptation that allows for the tonality and extra sounds found in Punjabi.

In my country Punjabi is on rise...Official language of Punjab State...one of 22 official languages of India...second language after Hindi in Haryana ,Chandigarh, Himachal and Delhi..Punjabi is written over our currency notes in India. Dear Mesha, nice to listen something like this, from a "Pak Ki Beti". Being a Proud Punjabi, I would have written my message in Punjabi, but on this subject, I also want to reach the non punjabi viewers. Before writing anything, I must let you know that Punjabi was the 9th most spoken language world till 1990. 1. Urdu was not brought by muslim rulers from outside India, but it was developed in India to rule the Indian public with a language which has a local touch. It's a mixture of many languages like Persian, Arabic & Sanskrit. It was accepted by the locals, because the dialect & the grammar was very much similar. Hindi (with little more Sanskrit words) is similar to Urdu, only the Alphabets (Lipi) are different. 2. Secondly your graphs show that in 1947, Pakistan was having 67% Punjabi speakers, which declined to 48% in 1981 & further to 39% at present, So if you check the percentage drop per year till 1981 it was very fast @ 0.55% per year. But later it dropped to 0.20% after 1981. So immediately after the Independence the language was attacked by the people who owned this. This is so strange. I will explain the reason below. 3. And out of the 9 parameters shared by you. I tell you that the Religion angle is the most prominent reason. Because Punjabi is facing similar fate in Indian Punjab. Now let's take a dive in the history. It was when the Sikh Gurus were scripting their literature, they did not find any Lipi (Alphabets) for Punjabi. As Urdu being the alphabetic representation for Hindi, can't be used for another language which has wide spread user-base. So the 2nd Sikh Guru (Guru Angad ji) Recollected/Designed Alphabets (Lipi) for Punjabi. This way the language got an Identification a Lipi (The Alphabets). Then they scripted all the Sikh religious literature in Punjabi Lipi (That's why Its also called as Gurmukhi by the Sikhs). So Punjabi also got a tag of a Religious language, and became the reason for Sikhs to be madly protective about it. That's why a language got its Lipi,..... by losing its speakers. I am deeply saddened by the decline, and trying to enlighten the people in India. You may also learn to speak and produce some good VDOs in Punjabi.

I'm from Sindh, where we're happy to speak our Sindhi language. Urdu isn't native to our region, so we don't feel the need to use it. When Urdu was forced upon us, it contributed to Bangladesh breaking away. I'm glad to see Punjabi people embracing their own language now.

I am Urdu speaking from Karachi. I can speak Sindhi because I spent a couple of years in a small part of Sindh where everyone spoke Sindhi. I was also good at speaking Punjabi since 80% of my childhood friends were Punjabi. When I visited their villages in Punjab or even their houses in my town, their parents spoke to me in Punjabi, and I responded in a mix of Urdu and Punjabi. However, the major thing is, since I moved to Karachi 10 years ago, I have forgotten all other languages; my Sindhi fluency is almost zero because the surrounding environment matters, no one speak Sindhi or Punjabi in surrounding, Interestingly, I am now learning and able to speak Siraiki because the housemaid(masi) who works for us is from South Punjab and speaks Siraiki. I think there is always something to do for bringing Punjabi back to life. As an individual, we should prefer this language for everyday life for example, watch Punjabi movies from Indian Punjab, listen to the Punjabi podcasts from Canada etc. I speak more than three foreign languages fluently: German, English and Chinese, but Punjabi will always be my favorite one.

First of all, young lady I want to congratulate you for raising this issue, which actually deserves even more attention from different quarters. Despite the fact that I have no family or friends’ connection with Punjabi language and have never lived in Punjab but I speak Punjabi pretty fluently as a non-native speaker of Punjabi language, and I am proud of it. Punjabi is a beautiful language with millions of native speakers throughout Indian subcontinent in particular, and the rest of the word in general. You have done good research and pointed out the fears of Punjabis for supporting and adopting Urdu, because of the fear of the dominance of majority Bangali language in the united Pakistan before independence of Bangladesh. Now that Bangladesh is an independent country, there still are some fears of people for not speaking Punjabi “ Ma Boli”their mother tongue, I want you to please do the research and find them out. I live in the United States and have traveled to 57 countries on this planet, wherever I met a Sikh Punjabi during my travels, they are so proud of speaking Punjabi language. The only people who have problem with Punjabi Muslim people from Pakistan, they will speak broken “Ghalat Salat” Urdu but shy away from their mother tongue.

I am an Urdu speaker and I think Punjabi is a beautiful language which is being killed. It must be taught not only as a language in all levels in school and colleges but also be a medium of education in Punjab. All regional languages should be electives in schools in other provinces as well. Growing up in Karachi we were taught Sindhi all through school but the quality wasn't good but there were sindhi medium schools as well. Our school had three sections where subjects were taught in English, Urdu, and Sindhi.

Another one-not really a language but a dialect-which I fear might also become endangered is Hyderabadi Urdu. In Pakistan, it has already become extinct. I find it very sweet too. Check out Moin Akhtar doing a Hyderabadi man in Loose Talk. We need to protect all languages and all great cultures regionally and internationally. FYI, Urdu is not brought to India by Mughals. It was developed during Delhi sultanat period. But Mughal only contributed in its further development. And most of the sikh scriptures are in Sadh Bhasha/ Brij Bhasha/ Awadhi languages. Gurmukhi is just used as a script for these scriptures.

Farsi was the main government language during the time of the Moguls. Then the British came and killed Farsi and promoted Urdu. As for Punjabi, a lot of credit goes to the Sikh empire which gave it a lot of strength.

Sheikh Farid Shakarganj was born in 11th century, Damodar Gulati (15th century), Shah Hussain, Sultan Bahu, Bulle Shah, Waris Shah, Ali Haidar Multani, etc. British were ruling India for around 100 yrs before capturing Punjab. When British attacked Punjab, army was also of CP (Central Provinces / UP, Bihar, etc), so to rule Punjab, they brought their people along with them from CP and had put them on top positions who spoke Urdu/Hindi. Suppressing local language Punjab down and promoting Urdu/Hindi helped British rule Punjab.

Nothing against any language but I have to say Urdu is a language that belongs to geographical areas that are all part of India and none part of Pakistan. When Punjabi people choose to speak Hindi ( in India ) and Urdu ( in Pakistan) to me it’s a case of inferiority complex. People with weak personalities have this problem. I would have written this comment in Punjabi but the problem is I don’t know Arabic script and People in Pakistan don’t know Punjabi ( NOT GURMUKHI) script. A word about Punjabi script: To call it Gurmukhi script Sikhs made it a script of Sikhs. The Sikh gurus did not create this script just modified ( improved ) it . My grandparents came from Pakistan Punjab to India during partition. Some second and many third & fourth generation Hindu people (of people who came from Pakistan side) don't speak Punjabi anymore unless they live in Punjab. Many Hindu Punjabis rule Bollywood and many industries in India. Another fact is connected to religion. At least, Hindu, Sikhs etc all speak, read, write Punjabi in Indian Punjab. But in Pakistan Punjab, almost everyone had to convert to Islam to survive. And sadly, Islam doesn't tolerate....

My father was born at village Mathrume in today's Chiniot district earlier part of Jhang district before partition of India 🇮🇳 . We Punjabi Khatri are the original habits of North Western part of Indian subcontinent for the last 25000 years we love our motherland and still speak our language Janglee/Jhangoji in our 👪 families the most loudest and clearly spoken dilect of Punjabi language living in Delhi after 76 years of partition of India 🇮🇳 .

*Personal Experience* : I was in 5th grade in a village part of District Attock (North of Punjab), and the principal legit told us not to speak Punjabi inside school's premises, not even with eachother in break time. Remember, it was a school in *Punjab* with mostly *Punjabi* speaking students. Even most of the Afghan students were either fully fluent or had great understanding of Punjabi language.

The intellectual death is clearly evident in the fact that ethnic Punjabis form 54% of Pakistan's population but Punjabi is mentioned as a language in census by only 40%. My parents (both Punjabis) used to mention Urdu as our language because we live in Karachi where you can get killed for speaking a particular language, but I won't repeat their mistake.

Whether it is Hindko Punjabi, whether it is Pothohari Punjabi or whether it is Multani, Dervi Bahawalpuri Punjabi (after 1962, given the name Saraiki to break up Punjab and give a separate identity to the migrants who settled in the Southern part of Punjab). ۔ And thus, by first making the Punjabi language a vulgar language and then its dialects as a separate language, an attempt was made to succeed in the conspiracy to eliminate us Punjabis from Pakistan altogether. ۔ And Alhamdulillah, I am proud that young people like me are well aware of this issue and are trying day and night to promote their language and culture, God willing, that day is not far when the Punjabi language (which includes Pothohari Punjabi, Jatki, Majhi and Saraiki Punjabi) will be taught as a compulsory subject and will connect their ethnicities with their roots.🌟🥰
