Wonderful doo wop tune from 1957. It reached Number 5 on R&B charts and Number 9 on the pop charts. Great vocals and wonderful orchestral backing made for a beautiful song. It was featured in the 1986 movie "Stand by Me". "Come Go With Me" was their other big hit also 1957. Great reaction Harri. Great time for music. Cheers from Canada. 🇨🇦

This and their hit 'Come go with me' 2 of the greatest Rock hits ever. A real pure rock feel to the song and yet the drummer is playing with wire brushes. Also both of these hits had the first Rock Sax solos I remember hearing. These 2 hits and the Belmont's 'The Wander' and 'I Wonder Why' then Dion's 'Run around Sue' and the Ronnettes' 'Be My Baby's, Gary US Bonds 'A Quarter to 3.' These were the songs that drove all of us buddying baby boomer musicians into a Rock and Roll frenzy.

I've been looking for a reaction video to this song for a long time. Finally...here it is. I was 13 when it came out and have heard thousands upon thousands of doo-wop songs. Sang some too on many a street corner. But this one -- THIS ONE -- is pure unadulterated rock & roll ENERGY. Gets me moving like no other has in the last 65 years. It's friggin amazing. And Kripp Johnson's lead is so perfect. There was once a world teaming with harmonies and superb vocalists. Gone with the wind.

Paul Simon did this in a medley during his concert in South Africa. It was beautiful.

One of the least famous, but best, rock and roll songs of all time !!! The harmonies, vocal and racial, the swingin' guitar, and the whole tempo - this IS rock and roll !!! The Del Vikings all served together in the US Air Force as well !

Subscribe. Check. Like. Check. Comment Check. Thanks Harri. I really appreciate your eclectic tastes in music. Nice to see you giving the 50s Oldies some love. Just a few requests for future reactions: 1950 - The Ravens - Count Every Star - early R&B ballad 1956 - The Five Satins - In the Still of the Night - THE classic doo wop 1957 - Billy Ward & the Dominoes - Stardust - oldies version of a 1927 Hoagy Carmichael song P.S. The Del Vikings also did an uptempo versoion of A Sunday Kind Of Love - worth a listen.

Hi Harri, I'm guessing that the person that put this video together may be from NYC. The ice cream parlor shown in the beginning called Jahn's was in Forest Hills, Queens (on Metropolitan Avenue). My wife and I would go there when we were dating. Great times and it was great seeing it again. Thank you! - Brooklyn Mike

Not sure, but I BELIEVE they started as one, split into two, both sides did their own rendition, and then ONE of them was later given one of those garbage "remasters" that sound totally different. But again, don't quote me exactly, just what I read somewhere.

The Dell-Vikings were an American doo-wop musical group from the 50's. They were one of the few successful racially mixed musical groups at the time. You've done their 2 biggest hits "Come Go With Me" & "Whispering Bells".

This is what society lacks, music that appeals to all, not black or white everyone.

I just noticed that they were a multi racial group 😳right when you said it. And yes they must of had rough time . And I was there then.

They were definitely unusual but not unique. The Crests of “16 Candles” fame were a multiracial group too.

Another reason the squares hated rock and roll. Rock has a history of bringing people together over music and some people just can’t stand that.

No, Harri. Elvis would NOT do this song...because he COULDN'T. He didn't have the voice for it or the vocal range, nor did Elvis have much of a falsetto. Blacks, like the del Vikings great lead Kripp Johnson, used their singing voices like no "white" was capable of. Blacks are simply the best R&B singers, and it's mostly physiological. Case in point: No white singer on this planet is ever gonna sound as incredibly amazing as Jackie Wilson. And there were no racial issues back then among us teenagers who felt and loved the music. None!

Certainly agree with you on the topic of Kripp Johnson's excellence; but not on the 50's lack of racial issues among teens. It depended upon which state the teen grew up in. Arkansas and Alabama, just for starters, did not cover themselves in glory when faced with 'new' additions to their educational systems.

@@darrylcpreston4043 I remember. I lived through it, in NY city, where there was absolutely no racial issue among us white rock'n'roll teens or our parents. We never thought of it as "race music" like southern bigots may have. The music overcame all that. It brought people together. It was just too big and beautiful to stop. Glad I was there.

Not true, the multiracial groups were accepted, embraced!! Age 14, i bought this record, you really should have been there. COLOR BARRIERS WERE BROKEN THROUGH MUSIC SUCH THIS. THE MUSIC NOT COURTS MADE THE CHANGES IN USA CULTURE.
