I'm pretty sure the portal was opened by the Maykrs. It was blue, and portals made by demons are red. The portal in the Fortress even changed color from blue to red when the DOOM SLAYER had to switch from its normal power source to the demonic Crucible. Remember, the plan was to send the Icon to Earth all along, all the DOOM SLAYER ruined was their control over the Icon.

When fighting the Icon of Sin, the Crucible ammo is infinite (and I believe chainsaw gas is as well). Focus EVERYTHING you have on the Icon, use the fodder demons to harvest ammo, and use the crucible on literally anything harder than a fodder demon. Obviously this is too little too late, but for anyone else, maybe this'll help.

Personally I played the game on Nightmare on my first playthough, and used the BFG/Crucible as little as possible. It feels cheap and not challenging enough for me. Maybe that’s why I hated the Icon of Sin fight…

So basically the reason Samuel Hayden knew everything, is because he is the Seraphim, the seraphim's name is called Samur Makyr. First lets go back to Doom 2016, when you meet Samuel hayden in the beginning he gives you an Argent Cell and says "Take this, it will give you strength, help you on your journey..." And when doomguy was put into the divinity machine, that hooded figure which was the Seraphim says "Take this, it will give you strength, help you on your journey..." Also Samuel knew all about the Makyrs and Urdak, and he was able to connect to your ship easily, also, he took VEGA, which is the Father, from Urdak.

Also, some clarity: The Icon of Sin opened a portal to earth when you stabbed the heart. It also managed to open a portal allowing demons into Urdak when that happened. This is because the Khan Maykr lost control of it.

@@camerondon3712 basically this is another timeline doomguy got dropped into by the demons from hell after the events of all the original doom games from doom 1 to doom 2 to doom 64 and all their expansions. 2016 and Eternal take place in another timeline where the original games didn't happen, but now the doomguy sees another civilization get corrupted by Hell (Argenta and the Maykrs) which leads to the eventual invasion of the earth of this timeline. Doomguy remembering what happened last time ain't having none of that shit decides to rip and tear until Earth is safe from Hell, the Maykrs, and Argenta. As for Doom 3, that takes place in yet another timeline where it happens techinically at the time where the doomslayer is imprisoned in his sarcophagus in hell.

@Communist Meme the most accepted theory is that since hell has little to no structure with its laws and nature other than it has no limits and does whatever the fuck it wants, it spat him out in a different timeline, practically the same yet also different. Hell still exists no matter what so when our angry boy got spat into another timeline he was still babbling about the same old hell. This also makes every single version of hell canon. All of it. @Communist Meme ...No they aren't in the same timeline. The Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal do not take place in the original timeline/dimension/universe. Doomguy got sent into a different timeline/dimension/universe but Doomguy is the same Doomguy who experienced all of the other Doom Games. So the Doomguy can reference experiences that happened in all games in the Doom series because he has lived through all of them. The Mars experience he was rambling about was from his original timeline/dimension/universe but he got sent into the past of the new timeline/dimension/universe and ended up in their hands so the experience he experienced and was talking about occured an untold thousands of years in the future of a different timeline/dimension/universe to the one he was mentioning them in.

Samuel Hayden is the Seraphim, he stole the Father and the father became Vega. That's also why when you entered the room with the Khan Makyr and the Icon that it said "Welcome Seraphim" Because Hayden is somewhat in your suit. It also explains why Hayden knows so much about hell and the Makyrs.

It's explained even more in a line that's in the files in the game. Samuel says "I will mask your biological make-up with one of their own" meaning that he had access to Makyr genetics and that the Makyr genetics used was the Seraphim's.

"Why does Samuel know everything?" Well if you were paying attention you would have noticed the heavy hints that Hayden is the Seraphim. Why did the door call you the Seraphim? Because Hayden uploaded himself into your suit. The line the Seraphim says in the flashback is the same as when Hayden gives you an argent energy core for the first time in Doom 2016, to the word. The scientists at the Ark said they couldn't bring him back because his body is "alien". If this is all true than he is a Makyr but not only that, he is the reason this all happened. That is why he knows everything including the argent factory in Hell, only the Maykrs knew of it till the Agenta found out and humanity still didn't know about it.

If anything, he may have lost his memories when he became Samuel Hayden (hence why he wants the power of Argent then changes his mind) and then he created Vega from the Father, so by restoring Vega to Urdak, he usurped the rule of Khan Maykr and reinstated the rule of the Father.

Yes, and Samuel Hayden being the Seraphim means he is also the Makyr who turned Doom Guy into the Doom Slayer with Makyr technology on Argenta D'nur back when they were all Sentinels. The Betrayer was another Sentinel who the Makyr rulers and rulers of hell royally screwed over by setting him up to be offered a deal they knew he wouldn't refuse, but that would not give him what they offered the way he wanted. The Doom Slayer never was the Betrayer, but it is implied that they had a close relationship as did all the Sentinels, and they were all used by their Makyr leadership and sent unknowingly on a suicide mission into hell, but because Mark doesn't understand this, he doesn't understand the Doom Slayers motivations for wanting to wipe out hell and the Khan Makyr for killing all his brothers in arms and their families and his own family and friends. The only reason betrayal is referred to on the topic of the Doom Slayer is because he betrayed the Makyr rulers (from their perspective) by rallying a rebellion against them after finding out that the Makyrs owned and facilitated the running of the hell "factories" that turned human souls into "the essence" or argent energy, by torturing them mercilessly.

The intro of this game cleared things up, but now that Doom Slayer is officially Doomguy, the only reason he is so mad is because the demons killed Daisy. Also Doom Guy had way more reasons to be mad than just demons killed his pet rabbit, he was a marine from Earth who was sent to Mars because they were experimenting with something they found that allowed for inter dimensional travel. They of course, unwittingly unleashed literal hell on Mars, which then ended up happening on Earth later in the original sequels to the original Doom games, so demons first slaughtered everyone Doom Guy knew on the original Mars facility, and then later all of his family, friends, and anyone else he ever knew. Then when he somehow ended up on Argent D'nur presumably in an alternate dimension and/or timeline, it happened again, the only difference this time was having the power that he did as the Doom Slayer he was able to save some of humanity from the Earth in this game.

But I enjoyed Mark's playthrough way more, cause the story is not that important to me, and most of doom eternal is just killing demons, which mark did very entertainingly. The problem wasn't that Jack was bad, but that he blamed it on the game more and more each episode, which slowly became painful to watch. To seem him continuously bash a game with so much love and care put into it just cause he sucks at situational awareness. Also, the more he blamed the game, the worse he played, as he slowly stopped trying to learn what he was doing wrong, cause it's apparently all the game's fault.

I find it fascinating that Mark is having a hard time with the lore. His confusion about wraiths (seen in DOOM 2016), his confusion of who the Seraphim and the Father are (Samuel Hayden/Samur and Vega), as well as not listening to the part where they specifically said the Icon of Sin was being sent to Earth to kill all the humans so Urdak could be "saved". Mark needs to stop overthinking everything

I am a bit late to reply to this but i agree. Mark reads the lore but then seems to immediatly forget what he read. He keept confusing the Doom Slayer and The Betrayer. He kept saying that lore should have been that the slayers son was the icon of sin, thus would give him a reason to hate the demons. He played the old games, maybe not all of them, but everyone knows the reason the doom slayer hates demons, is because they killed his pet rabbit daisy and his family (which there is a picture of them in the fortress) that is what drives him. He is so mentally broken that he cannot stop killing demons, also he is a force of nature. Mark should seriously look at a videos where the lore is explained in great detail. Nonethless the lore can seem a bit weird and sometimes confusing. One thing that always bothered me is when people expect there to be answers for everything, if that was the case then the lore in games would be dull. There would be no mystery to try and uncover, no debates, about this or that.

@@AndreB23 Exactly. They are the same entity. VEGA is also the AI known as The Father, likely with all his memories either missing or locked out. Samur/Hayden took his core when he defected from the Maykrs, because he knew that The Father was the only entity capable of rebirthing the Khan Maykr. No Father, no Maykrs, no Urdak, no Hell invasions of innocent worlds to power their decadent society. He became disenfranchised with the glowing paradise laid on the foundations of hundreds of murdered societies, and defected to humanity in order to aid them against the coming Hell invasion. He knew that in doing so he'd be damning his own society, but could not just continue to turn a blind eye once he realized the extent of the horror they were committing to keep the lights on. It's really not a complicated story. I don't know why people are having such trouble figuring it out.

I'm a bit confused on the whole Samuel Hayden thing. In the 2016 game I believe they laid out that he was a human who was working with the UAC then got brain cancer and in an attempt to save his life transferred himself to the robot body. Then the UAC used the energy from Hell to sell to Earth to solve an energy crisis. Which was going well until certain members of the UAC became corrupted and aided hell in its invasion. Even during the 2016 game Hayden tried to only temporarily stop the production of Argent energy because it was too important in his eyes but the Slayer went in to destroy it. Now in this game Samuel Hayden was a Maykr the whole time and never a human? He also headed the project to produce Argent energy from Hell? Isn't that you know, the exact same thing the Maykrs were doing? If that is what he eventually turned against then why did he basically teach another civilization how to do the exact same thing? Is he ok with using Hell as an energy source but just not with the innocent souls needed to make that source? I don't know, I'm very confused. To me, just watching the videos of Doom playthroughs, it seems like Samuel Hayden from Doom Eternal is a completely different character from Samuel Hayden from Doom 2016. In general I'm finding it a bit difficult to connect the stories from both games. Like individually if I think of the story isolated to just Doom Eternal it makes sense but when I try and connect it to Doom 2016 it gets confusing.

What kills me the most: His entire world was annihilated and his beloved friends and Family on his Earth, even his pet Rabbit, Daisy (yes I know she can be seen around the ship, but she can't be approached so it is likely she is just a fleeting memory of her time in those areas.) And yet Mark says that a man who lost his son is the only person that would have the motivation to continue to rip through hell in vengeance. Seriously, I know losing a child is hell, I lost my sister and it was a nightmare, but to say losing literally EVERYTHING on your planet, and having NO ONE left at all, seems like pretty fuckin legitimate reason to be eternally pissed.

The only difference between Nightmare and Ultra Nightmare is that in Ultra Nightmare, you die, it's over, start the whole game again. No difficulty changes, it's just Nightmare, but you die you lose everything. Even then, the hardest levels are the first 3-4, because you don't have many tools yet.

Hey Markiplier I had something I wanted to tell you about the end of Doom Eternal. You were saying that Dr. Hayden didn't get any character development during the game and I wanted to encourage you to check out Ancient Gods part one and Ancient Gods part two. It not only picks up where Eternal left off, but at the end of the first mission you find out something really interesting about Dr. Hayden and it appears that he becomes a more major character from then on. OR the real Samuel Hayden died in 2027-ish and the "Samuel Hayden" we see in game is the Seraphim who took over his role by pretending to be him. That explains why the robotic body's architecture was "alien" to the ARC scientists and it was similar to the Maykr technology used on the Fortress of Doom. Also he has a pretty good motive. Samuel was the man in control of humanity's only source of Argent energy. And according to what he says in Eternal, Argent energy can be very good "with proper management".

Funny how all Mark's complaints about the story being unclear could be solved by story details he was blatantly told but was talking over. Being confused about who the Betrayer is when he literally met the Betrayer earlier. Not knowing why the Icon of Sin would be on Earth when the Khan Maykr said multiple times that she'd send the Icon of Sin to Earth. Not knowing why demons would be on Urdak when it's been explained multiple times that the Maykrs are working with the demons. His other problem is that he assumes because there's a lot of lore that the lore is complicated. It's not. The lore can be summarized in less than five sentences. There's a warrior race who meet and start worshipping what are basically angels. Then a guy with PTSD appears and warns them about hell, so they start fighting hell. But then the angels and the priests worshipping them betrayed the warriors for immortality, and now the angels lead part of hell. Now they're after earth, and the guy who warned the warriors is trying to stop them. Everything else is nonessential to the plot, just details to make the world feel more real and believable.

The story simplified: Maykrs used to be essentially "gods", as after death they would simply be reborn. But then one of their own stole their means of doing so. Thus, Khan Maykr started dearching for alternatives to continue their immortality, and eventually came across the Doom Guy, who was a being from an alternate reality/dimension constantly raving about hell. This gave Khan Maykr an idea: forge an alliance with hell and then use their hellish power combined with the power of the sentinel world to create Argent energy. However this energy could only be made from souls, meaning worlds had to be invaded. And so, the sentinel world fell, and earth was next up on Khan Maykr's shit list.

I feel bad that marks last level bugged out and he barely got to see the Icon of Sin marching around the level. That’s probably my favorite part of that level is seeing him march around menacingly. Thats why that giant bridge just blew up randomly in a cutscene. The icon was supposed to walk through it, but he didn’t and mark just saw the bridge spontaneously blow up on its own.

@@rainbowjo00 The problem with Mark's rant is that doom guy never was the betrayer in 2016; the codex entries never state or imply that doom guy is the betrayer. That was just a fan theory developed because people didn't know if the Slayer from 2016 was the same doom guy from the original games. Eternal simply confirmed that the betrayer is not doom guy and the Slayer is the same doom guy from the originals.

this has got to be my 5th or 6th time replying to someone about this. its not his job to care about the lore. It's his job to make videos that we watch and enjoy. its a service, and he is more than inclined to his own preservation about the game (not to mention, at least in my case, he is leaps and bounds more knowledgeable about doom than i ever will be). Doom lore: right, so, guy had his entire planet basically invaded by demons, all his buddies killed, his bunny, etc, then he locks himself in hell to keep killing demons forever so as to distract them - hopefully - from ever invading another world, ever again, then gets dumped in another world, where he eventually finds a new home for himself, but then again demons invade, kill and/or corrupt everyone, he's stuck in hell again because he was betrayed, then when he wakes up again, on (and this is the only part I'm unclear about) another earth (or is it the same earth? or... what?), and the first thing he witnesses is a hell invasion that one Samuel Haydens basically allowed to happen - and said Samuel tells him "it was for the greater good". Solid summary! Either it's a different earth, or the Doom Slayer can time-travel, because the Doom Hunter Base talks about the demons using the Doom Hunters (pre technology augmentation) to hunt the Doom Slayer "millennia ago". Argent D'Nur fell to the demons thousands of years before Doom 2016 and Doom Eternal take place.

Clear things up about the multiple earths hell is just one place no matter which universe you were in if you go into hell you're in hell so after in getting locked in a sarcophagus after the betrayal Samuel Hayden and co come from Earth2 into hell and then take him essentially because he'll is from all the universes able to travel through it to a different universe or in this case travel into it get trapped in a sarcophagus and then dragged into another
