The Denon DJ SC5000 and SC6000 PRIME Players are Even Better Now | Engine OS 1.6 Overview & Demo

Today I'm demonstrating the latest features offered by Denon DJ's latest updates to Engine OS. Thanks to these features, the entire PRIME lineup continues to receive added value over time.
Specifically, we'll be covering Dropbox integration over WiFi (which works surprisingly well), dual waveform view for "dual layer" playback on a single player, and full Serato integration.

More and more main stage DJs are making the switch to Denon. Additionally, the old argument that CDJs are the “Club Standard” and the only decks in every DJ booth in every Club across the world, is simply no longer true. Countless DJs don’t even use CDJs, and many don’t use decks at all. Examples being Chus, Zeds Dead, Oscar G, Nicole Moudaber, Laidback Luke, the list goes on and on. Everything about the Denon Prime lineup is far superior to even the “latest and greatest” of what pioneer has to offer. I’m changing my rider!

1.6.1 allows you to update via WiFi. Yeah, they keep getting better and better!! Trust me, Y'all, as a former CDJ user, you don't 'have' to buy the "industry standard" for home use. The SC6000 allows you to keep a library in Rekordbox, but run it on the Prime Decks & CDJs when playing out. 2X SC6000 + 2X LC6000 = $4,400 (if you pay full retail) 4X CDJ-3000 = $8,800 (if you pay full retail) You can buy soooooo much complimentary gear for your Denon setup with that $4,400 you are saving.

Hey, is it possible to run these players (SC5000, & SC6000) off of dJay Pro 2 on the Mac? I just love that Neural Mix feature in dJay pro. Would love to use it on my Denon's.

There is not currently official HID support for dJay Pro 2 that I'm aware of... however, it could be MIDI mapped "by hand". I just wouldn't expect all the features of the player to work.

Honestly what we need is a media player or mixer unit like the prime 4 that has a full version of windows or linux built in that runs a full version of virtualDJ that has parity with the desktop version. As good as EngineOS is it isn't customizable to the level needed and none of these units justify their price at all. With the new LC6000 there's and opportunity for an mixer to come along to provide this.

@@PassionateDJ yes, inside of a prime 4. Or give me the ability to pipe in any display feed to the displays on the units. I'll hook up a nuc or something. I mean we already got a sata bay... A laptop motherboard is super thin and could fit inside this units. Or an HDMI / displayport input in the meantime so they have a upgrade path for new units to sell. Either would be fine.

So close ... I want the same waveforms you see in denons os for serato dj (rgb) this is a make or brake for me and is stopping me from pulling the trigger on the 6000ms .. absolutely useless to have your library being shown like that at all times. More views/modes on the screen please @denon !!!

@@kisho2679 hmm, not sure. What method are you using to update (laptop or USB?) and are you using the appropriate file for that method? How long are you waiting before determining that it froze? What version are you going to and from?

It's a big one!I'm still asking myself too!Pre-ordered the Denons after they announced it, but never arrived so I cancelled it around august.Then CDJ3000 was announced and I felt generally a bit let down by it.Last few months trying to convince myself that the Denon is good value for the price and packed with features.Lately one of my friend bought the cdj 3000-s and another one the SC6000.Had the chance to play with both.Probably need more time on them but liked both of them.Since played mostly on Pioneer CDJs I had to get used to the Denons so could not get around them that much in those hours.TheCDJs are like every one before.Still I have to say i like the 2000NXS2 better (don't need such a big screen like on the 3000's or the 6000's they are overkill, and the jogwheels are fine too on the older models)but because the price is not lowered on those players the 3000 is the better option.But still, the price is too much and you know already these players so would be refreshing to go with the cheaper option and try out something new with the denons. Not to say the cliche but yes,where ever you go to play most likely they have Pioneer gear there, either the new or the older models.So basically you have to analyse the same track collection for your Denons,and for the Pioneer gear.And for me it's also brings confusion.Do I need that?Already not a fan rekordbox, but now there is a second software for that... Really Don't know what to do.If Pioneer would release new XDJ Players the it's coming around now,so maybe wait a little then??...

There are positives about both. Here is the thing. If you like the Pioneers the way they are right now then ok, but they will never be updated with any new features. The Denon units have gotten significant added features twice since the 6000 was released. Also, denon has useable pads that can be used for hotcues, loops, slicing, and rolls along with dual layer. There are also built in internet sources for music. Pioneer has better feeling play and cue buttons along with a brighter, but less touch responsive screen. Its not like using denon restricts you from knowing how to use Pioneer... The opposite though isn't the same. Pioneer comfortable DJs will be a bit lost on the denon.

Great break down sir! I recently got 2 sc5000’s. I noticed you explained how to display both wave forms on the screen of one deck screen if your playing both tracks from the same sc5000 unit. How could I configure it so if I’m playing a track on one sc5000 unit and the second track is being played on the second sc5000 unit, both wave forms show up on both screen to make mixing my transparent? Thanks in advance!

So far this is not possible in standalone mode. I hope for this to come soon along with an updated phase meter that doesn't require sync to be enabled to shwo the phase of the second player. Rigth now I've been using instant doubles in order to alleviate this some manner, but it isn't a perfect solution by any means as instant doubles is slightly delayed and limits the use of the layer whilst performing.

@@kaislate the first part of your comment is my thoughts exactly!!! A visual meter would be nice for fast mixing and keeping everything sounding tight🙏🏻 The second part about instant doubles I don’t get, if your doing instant doubles your copying the same song over to the other deck, are you doing it for scratching or? On hat note yes instant doubles is very delayed because it stops and asks you where you want the double to appear, deck-a-d- or c.

@@Mattiimateo Instant doubles is only perhaps a 1/16 beat off from its source. The reason to use this is to view the waveform of the currently playing track on the other player on the 2nd player you wish to waveform visual mix with. You either transfer the audience audio to instant double clone or leave it and tap the +speed key to speed it up just a tad to match the current one. Like I said, not perfect, but once you get the workflow down it is pretty seemless. It will also make you better at mixing by ear doing this way because in a way you have to make sure the cloned waveform is matching the centerline of the source waveform before you use it to visually beat match. Or you could just turn on the sync button to activate the phase meter of P1A/B to move on P2.
