I don't believe that Kamala's defeat is solely attributable to the situation in Gaza. While I don't think it helped, I believe that the Democratic Party's loss resulted from a variety of issues: the selection of an exceptionally weak candidate and an over-reliance on identity politics, which failed to recognize that racism and misogyny remain prevalent among segments of the electorate. Additionally, the campaign adopted a patronizing tone in an effort to pressure voters, contributing to a fundamentally flawed campaign strategy. Moreover, President Biden's decision to allow essential social programs to lapse after the premature termination of the COVID-19 state of emergency, while people continued to cope with a downturn in the mainstream economy due to corporate job cuts and greed that created inflation, was detrimental. The persistent trend of the Democratic Party neglecting the working class ultimately sealed the fate of the Harris campaign's catastrophic loss.

Presidential candidates love to back fracking because it does well in Pennsylvania, the most important state in the election because fracking is important to their economy. Dems just need to message it better and say that there will be a plan for the current oil workers to transition to clean energy or another field, funded by the government.

Things are going to get a lot worse for americans I think, and everyone else as well to a greater or lesser extent. However this feels kind of like, ugh. I dont want to say relief, sort of, a sense of the pin has dropped, the worst has happened, now I can get on with preventing the same thing happening to the UK in five years. Ironically Sir Kid Starver has been much less right wing in domestic policy than he said he would be, but not anywhere bear left wing, so we need to get a new left wing party into power.

The country is beyond repair. It cannot be corrected before our demise. Capital is entrenched in our political climate, and it cannot be undone. This has been observable for awhile through the lens of either side of the aisle. I think this moment might be when the nation falls. I simply wish that suffering is minimal. I hope we can create something better, more adaptable, less corruptible, and more democratic in its place, with the well-being of its worker class prioritized above all else. At best, there will be internment camps. At worst... well... what could go wrong in strongest, most lethal nation in the world? Stay safe, comrades.

Honest question. What do you think you have accomplished? Do you think your choice was somehow praxis? Are you an accelerationist (should've voted for him then)? If no one in the country voted, do you believe that if no one in the country voted, the national government would dissolve? Obviously voting would have contributed to this NOT happening. Now a significant portion of my friends are at a statistically higher risk of being murdered (and their murderers aquitted) and no, that is not hyperbole. Were you just "keeping your hands clean"? Re: Soviet labour camps. It is generally somehow assumed that it was 'slave labour'. It was not, and any parallels to the American system are plainly disgusting. (a) The labour camp system was a financial BURDEN on the Soviet union throughout its existence, a net negative. There was no monetary profit being made, and the whole point of it was to rehabilitate criminals and finally get them to do a real job for once, to do something admirable even. And to that effect, barring a brief period around 1942-43 (guess what was happening), (b) labour camp inmates were paid THE SAME WAGE people outside were paid FOR THE SAME WORK. There were deductions for food and shelter, but inmates who actually worked properly still ended up with sizeable savings, enough to start the life outside (let it also be known that they wouldn't sit unemployed because of their conviction either). Dalstroy is a very telling example: it was a mining conglomerate originally built in the Far East in the early 1930's, mostly my labour camp inmates. By late 1930's, prisoners were a small minority of Dalstroy employees, and much of this shift was due to a lot of people just deciding not to go once they got out. Those gold-mining wages were too bloody good, and they'd already got the taste.

1:10:12 yeah that really puts everything into perspective. I know we're all upset by Trump winning, and the pain we are feeling is not invalid. I'd disagree with Hakim and say I don't think all of us will survive a Trump presidency. The rights of every minoritized group in the US are under attack. However, frankly our rights mean fucking nothing if we are willing to so callously disregard a genocide in order to keep them for a little bit longer. Now, we need to summon 1/100th of the bravery of the Palestinians to fight for the freedoms we're about to lose.

That’s incorrect. You may be thinking of the February 15th day of protest that was worldwide, which was huge, but overall protests *in the US* were far less frequent and sustained than those opposing the Vietnam war.
