I worked for two Fortune 500 companies. I thought they were large corporations because they were well-oiled machines with billions in capital, highly professional employees, market intelligence, technology, business metrics, etc. My experience was mainly middle management yelling at us to get their productivity numbers up so they can get promoted or avoid being laid off during the near annual company reorganizations.

Guilty. I care enough about my work that I want the tools to improve, because that’s the material basis of our standard of living. As a software dev, I can actually develop some of those tools. When I open source something, LinkedIn is one of the places where I post about it. But if I ever get to the point that I actually have an audience (actually more on medium than on LinkedIn), I intend to drop a bomb and post articles about class analysis and so on.

It has a great wage for the first job of a Sci-Pol graduated 2 years ago, awesome work benefits (health insurance, annual 30-days paid leave, bonus for individual and institutional performance...), with really great coworkers, a cool work environment, and a nice boss... *HOWEVER* (obviously nothing can be perfect, furtherless in capitalism) this bullshit bureaucratic need for reshuffling processes from scratch is SO annoying!!! We need to redo process technical sheets every 2 years because each administration assumes the last one sucked, so they change literally how everything is done and we need to rework what we've already done just last year. If there was ever a bullshit job (in a David Graeber sense), it's this one.

@@cdw2468 In my particular case, it was pure luck... and (kind of) nepotism. When the new party was elected in 2020, they appointed as the new director of the planning department an university researcher professor who was coincidentally a great friend with an aunt of mine. My aunt recommended me (I was jobless for almost *18 months* after graduation!), I sent her my CV, and the director took me into her team. The rest of my coworkers were either ex-students of hers, or from the previous administrations. Of course, this is not a generalizable experience in any way; I recognize my privilege, and how they allowed me to 'game the system'. Yet now things are (kind of) more institutionalized: the government now requires for any new position to be filled through public contest applications (they publish every day the new vacancies on the website of the Ministry of Public Administration), and it's easier for any new graduated students to find and apply for positions.

Yeah, only the comparatively super unimpressive stuff (something like 2 room cabin w/ no running water in like almost a year) is actually real, and that's not the stuff that gets tens of millions of views. There's a good expose vid on it I watched. Iirc some rich dudes spend tons of money on these naturalistic structures, and most of the work is done via machinery if not by squads of people who don't show up on video. Water is imported from forever away, structures aren't where they seem to be relative to the water source in the vid, all sorts of stuff.

entrepreneur is a dumb idea but it does ultimately have relevance for Marxist theory because, in the usual meaning I've usually heard it, it's the founder of a new business, and there are legitimate open questions over whether it's reasonable for places like China to attempt to expand their economy by letting people found corporations or whether that's a distraction from what they should be doing. it brings up questions around whether you can eliminate the petty bourgeoisie or you're always going to have to regenerate them in the process of creating a functional economy and how it's possible to create a workers' state when improving conditions for workers keeps accidentally turning them into small businesses and putting everyone at odds with each other edit: fuck.
