If you have no major nasal trauma listen to this guy. Many ENTs try to sell and market a septoplasty and turbinate reduction combo. Don't be fooled or worse being persuaded into having a unnecessary nasal surgery leading to severe complications that are not discussed.

Fix gut issues and use a HEPA filter if environment is a factor. If you do not have facial trauma or born with an abnormally deviated septum don't fall into the sales pitch of getting your septum or turbinates reduced. Won't solve the main cause of your health problems and most likely cause other issues.

@@juliemay9295 maybe just a septoplasty would be worthwhile, only if its bad enough though. You should do saline rinses 3x a day minimum, use vitamin e nasal spray, camphor and eucalyptus with vitamin e nasal spray. Also a daily antihistamine tablet, or antihistamine nasal spray if you prefer. Using cpap humidification helps also. All of these things will help reduce the swelling of the turbinate mucosa tissue. BTW if your AHI's look okay, but you're still feeling unwell, get another sleep study. Consider asking a sleep specialist if they're willing to test you for narcolepsy. There may be a whole bunch of differential diagnosis that needs done, before saying it's all because of sleep apnoea. Consider the use of provigil/nuvigil if everything checks out as okay. It can really help people like you. I've had sleep apnoea all my life BTW.

Afterwards, I could breath & within 10yrs I was no longer immune to high-dose & 10yrs later I can take standard antibiotics depending on infection w/o fear of maxing out where no AB will work. He said symptoms were from a combination of factors, one of which is a deviated septum. It could very well be that alleviating one of the factors is enough to pass a threshold that feels asymptomatic for people who’ve had a DS their whole life. But it’s better to holistically understand problems so that you may find many solutions or even further optimize. You might be allergic to things around you like pollen for example, and fixing your DS could be one step towards actually clearing up your breathing long term.

What do you think can be done to correct that problem? I was told by an ENT that I have a pretty badly deviated septum. I used to just have nasal congestion when first waking up in the morning but now my face hurts most of the day and the congestion doesn't ever fully clear. Is there another procedure to fix this other than regular septum surgery? Me and my doctors are having quite a hard time figuring this out. @@grzegorz16100 if its over 50% deviated and your turbinates are large (usually the inferior), I'd say do very conservative procedures for turbinate reduction first, for which if that works out fine, don't bother getting the septum restructured. I'm not a doctor, but I have done a thorough research and I came to the following conclusion. Before I get to the "Deviated Septum Myth," I would like to mention that as you know, everyone has nasal turbinates. They are essential for human health. They purify and filter, moist and warm the air we breathe. Their aerodynamic shapes (which include curves and folds), creates a beneficial, dramatically larger surface than if we didn't have them at all. As a result of this large surface, there will be much greater air contact with the surface, creating higher quality air for our lungs. Turbinates can be in different sizes. Very large turbinates may block the airways in the nose and cause breathing problem. In this case they can be reduced in size surgically. If they are reduced too much, then another problem will emerge called "Empty Nose Syndrome." Now, also everyone has some degree of nasal septum curve (so called deviation), some with more, some with less curve (doesn't this ring a bell?). The septum curve (deviation) is there for a good reason! Some of the reasons/benefits are exactly similar to those of turbinates. The curve in the septum creates an aerodynamic shape and much wider surface for air contact than if it was perfectly straight. Conclusion: For breathing problem through nose, first I would rule out all the other environmental stimuli such as allergens, pollutants, etc. I would also rule out other physiological culprits before any surgery. The same way that we don't fix nasal turbinates if they don't create air blockage, I wouldn't straighten my deviated nasal septum as I believe sufficient deviation is beneficial. Thank you for reading

i hate doctors like this they find a good excuse to say averyone have a Deviated Septum or a nose problem , i had breathing problems all my life i contantly pick it because i cant breath, i wakeup in the midle of the night wondering why cant i breath sometimes i bleed for no reason and i have lots of wax on my ears no matter how often i clean it... everytime i go and get check they tell me there is nothing wrong with it by the looks of it but really you can tell its not even straight!!!

Yea I got it done and it fixed everything. Mine was deviated and it made breathing through my nose impossible about 90% of the time. Sleep meant I had dry mouth from having to breather partially through my mouth. I'd get opinions from multiple drs usually an ENT and family physician and get the surgery. It really is like a new you.

When a deviated septum is "congenital", it is caused by compression of the nose during childbirth. C-Section newborns are not pushed through the vaginal wall, so therefore, it will not cause a deviated nasal septum. These are the cold facts!

Hi jade, It's quite common for nasal septums to be congenital in nature. More than 80% of people have septal deviation due to the nature of the human body not being great at symmetry. Sure, natural birthing can potentially cause septal deviation, but that is just a hypothetical for now. For instance, I have a very straight nose, looking from the outside, but internally I had quite a large deviation. There is no reason to believe it was caused by my natural birth whatsoever.

but my breathing problems aren't from the nostril. it seems like its more on the bridge of my nose
@Silvoleon14 жыл бұрын
lol @ roll your eyes "internally," sure doc do that.

i got kicked in the face as a teen and can't breathe out of one nostril barely at all ever since. my nose is also crooked. this is not a myth. :-/ this vid is somewhat misleading. yes, there can be other causes to nasal issues. but no, it's not a 'myth' - by definition, that would would mean it's never real....
