The Devil in the Church. How did Jimmy Savile become a Preacher at St John's in Cragg Vale?

The Dark Side of the Moor

4 ай бұрын

In the late 1960s. Jimmy Savile was on the rise of popularity with the Brotish public, thanks to being the presenter of Top of the Pops. Moving from place to place, one of his home locations was a caravan in Cragg Vale, near Hebden Bridge.
In 1967, the church at Cragg Vale, St John the Baptist in the Wilderness, was without a vicar. Jimmy became a church warden, handed the keys, and would soon dress in a lurid green robe and preach from the pulpit. in 1969 he appeared on the BBC programme Songs of Praise as both presenter and preacher.
This was just the start of the notorious DJ and presenter using his influence to 'collect keys' which over the next 30 years would include Broadmoor, Stoke Mandeville Hospital, and be protected for his despicable crimes by the rich and powerful of the United Kingdom.

Cyril Smith comes to mind 🤔 And the secret or not so secret meetings in that London flat, can't remember the name now, but we are researching this or planning too for a forthcoming video. Celebrities and politicians are all culpable and many visited the same establishment in London. Some say Savile was the head of it all but that's just hearsay I think.

When you say that you were in two minds, whether to tell this tale, we can't erase the past. We can tell the stories of these people but now with open eyes. We owe it to his victims to tell the truth about him and his evil ways. Well done with this video 👍 As a child I loved watching this man on TV. She was just sixteen at the time which made it legal .I only ever saw him in a pub in Manchester in the 70s he walked in with another ugly customer. 😊He had an awful presence about him made you want to drink up and go .I remembered that my friends sister that was just sixteen .Was actually a deaf +mute child from birth she communicated with sign language. I don't understand how Savile was able to become a church warden of an Anglican church, and preach there, when he wasn't even an Anglican but a Roman Catholic. His oufit was hardly canonical either. More like some sort of wizard's robe. Heaven knows what his actual sermons were like. It would be interesting to know more about the vicar of the church at that time, who was apparently a good friend of JS.

Yeah, it's baffling, isn't it. The outfit, like the whole thing, was just part of the charade, I guess. I'm not sure who the vicar was who eventually took over, but as savile was churchwarden, he got the say apparently.

That is outrageous! It seems to me as if it was some sort of modus operandi of his to put people in positions of power who he knew would do his bidding. Like when he put Alan Franey in charge of Broadmoor. However, it was surely not only unethical but against canon law for an Anglican vicar to be appointed by someone who was not even an Anglican.

Top of the Pops started 1962 or 1963, so JS was in that village long after Top of the Pops started and the Songs of Praise episode was early 1970's l think, but l could be wrong. I worked at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in the 1990's as a student nurse. My colleagues and l often passed JS in the corridor, he was polite, friendly and chatty. It was a real shock to learn much later what he actually was. I tried to get his autograph once and he led me a Merry dance around his secretary etc, in the end l told her to forget it, as l could tell he was winding me up big time.

Why wasn't he taken seriously back then, so an investigation would start about this monster ? Or how did Lydon get away with this,if Savile had the establishment backing him ? Savile was untouchable. Look at his family tree....they go WAY back. He called his mother, "Duchess.".....that's a high title. He never spoke about his father....all rather misty there.....some Duke, perhaps ? Never forget, he was part of a much larger network. The British Isles has a long history with the Druids, Vikings,etc.....Fire and Sun worship, going back to the Baal priests of the Old Testament. Him being a vicar, was to mock God. Of course, God is not mocked......and Jimmy boy's eternal fate will be as dark as his forefathers'. == Good video....filling in another piece of the puzzle that is the British Isles. I'm a born again Christian but I didn't find God in the physical church and I've seen some really ugly things amongst some in leadership positions. Alot of ministers aren't born again and therin lies the problem. Baptism isn't physical its spiritual and available to ordinary people, simply pick up your Bible and call upon Jesus. John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.

Interesting video but I must pick you up on something. I grew up during the 70's, the time Jim'll fix it aired. I desperately wanted to meet either of two sporting personalities of the time. It crossed my mind that the show might be a way to meet one of them. The problem was that Savil gave me the creeps even as a child. It was obvious to anyone with the slightest intuition that Savil was a villain. Even a child like myself could see there was clearly a vile man. I just can't believe I was thevonly one. As I remember all of my school friends thought the same. His enablers, the BBC, the royal family, Thatcher all villains and all should be held to account for protecting him. But oh wait... the BBC platformed self confessed potential pedophile Rod Liddle on question time, the late queen and current king continue to protect the royal pedophile Andrew and Thatcher protected no just Savil but her Parliamentary Private Secretary who wasba known pedophile. Nothing has really changed.
