About his daughter. Walking the streets of Japan, Shredder met a homeless little girl who was abandoned by her parents. He adopted her and began to teach her martial arts. He began to raise her as a father. It is not clear what motives Shredder had. Did he want to raise a loyal soldier to whom he could trust everything, even his secrets, or did he really feel sorry for the child? It is unknown. But it is known that Shredder treated Karai better than the others. He never punished her for defeats like the others. He treated her with trust and respect. He even knew that she sometimes helped the turtles and was friends with Leonardo, but he decided to pretend that nothing happened. But when she stopped him from killing Leonardo on the ship and began to beg him to spare the turtles, his patience exploded. He thought, "How dare you? I gave you everything and you dare to disrespect me like this? You've gone too far this time." And then Shredder punched her in the jaw and was about to kill her before the Utroms arrived and arrested him.

So heres another little bit of info for this shredder. this man gave leo such severe ptsd he trash talked his own family and slash at splinter in a training match knowing full well splinter was still recovering? And thats not even including what he did to the villians he fought. It was so bad leo had to go on a self healing journey out of the damn country. Keep in mind this was AFTER the space fight when he was tried and sent to the frozen planet. So leo knows the shredder is gone gone but after that ass whooping and the fact leo was the one who found out the shredder was back the first time left this kid traumatized.

Yeah, 4kids gets a bad wrap. they get blamed CONSTANTLY for shit they were TOLD to do. by censors, by the networks, even by the original japanese companies. but people forget they gave us this, they gave us shaman king which was nearly uncut, even showing blood at times. hell, since they personally funded season 2 of ultimate muscle after the show got cancelled in japan at the end of season 1, they gave the world Mr Cheeks (google image search that MF). great character but a bit of an ass. This (and the uncut dubs of yugioh and shaman king they tried releasing but got cancelled cause of poor sales) is the kind of thing 4kids was capable of when given free reign with limited restrictions.

technically shredder never lost to the turtles. at least no legitimately. they always either got helped out by someone, or in the case or leo vs shredder, had to resort to a magic sword.
